Mildred M. Cummings

Mildred M. Cummings, 96, of 1332 Waterford Crossing Circle Goshen, The Maples, formerly of Crystal Valley Manor in Middlebury and Battle Creek, MI. died at 11:03 AM on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Maples at Waterford Crossing Goshen, IN, after a brief illness. She was born July 11, 1912 in St. Louis, MI., to Fred and Ida (Rogers) Hammond. On August 14, 1931 she married George R. Cummings, he died September 16, 1973. She was a homemaker and with her husband owned and operated Middlebury Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of American Legion Post # 210 Auxiliary, she was a talented seamstress and had taught sewing for 4-H clubs, she loved music and was a member of the Organ Club of Middlebury and the Greencroft Harmonica Band. She was an avid reader, loved playing games and enjoyed finding good deals at garage sales. Survivors include 2 Daughters, Judy & Richard Stutz of Middlebury, IN, Carol & Robert Hout of San Diego, CA; 6 Grandchildren, Sherrie Stutz of Goshen, IN., Teri Schmidt of Middlebury, IN, Robin & Jake Schwartz of Holland, MI, Stacy & Jeff James of Middlebury, IN, Dr. Robert Hout of Boston, MA, Gina & Andrew Martin of Navarre, FL; 10 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 PM Friday and 1 hour prior to the funeral all at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury, IN. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Scott Tilley. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury, IN. Memorials may be given to American Legion Post # 210 Auxiliary, for the Children's Christmas Fund or Maples at Waterford Crossing Activity Fund.

David J. Jones

David J. Jones, 75, of 403 Eugene Dr. Middlebury, IN died at 12:25 AM on Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Maples at Waterford Crossing Goshen, IN. He was born May 3, 1933 in LaGrange County, IN., to Jacob and Bertha (Kemp) Jones. On May 26, 1956 in Middlebury, IN., he married Irene Miller, she survives. He was the owner/operator of Jones Sand & Gravel Company, Middlebury. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War, a member of the American Legion Post # 210 Middlebury and a member of the Middlebury Church of the Brethren. Survivors include his wife, Irene Jones; Daughter, Dawn Jones of Houston, TX; Son, Ron & Barb Jones of Middlebury, IN; 3 Grandsons, Ross, Andrew and Spencer Jones; 2 Sisters, Nellie & Al Slabaugh of Goshen, IN., and Mary Ann Hostetler of Burbank, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers: Fred, San, Jacob, Levi, Abe and Pete Jones, and a sister Amelia "Jo" Slusher. Visitation will be from 1 - 7 PM Sunday, November 23 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 24, 2008 at Middlebury Church of the Brethren. Services will be conducted by Pastor Dan Petry and Rev. Mark Lantz. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury, IN. Memorials may be given to the Middlebury Food Pantry, C/O First Mennonite Church.

Hannah Jane Yoder

Hannah Jane Yoder, daughter of LaMar Yoder and Erma (Lehman) Yoder of 5750 West 400 South Topeka, IN was stillborn at 2:30 AM on Friday, November 21, 2008 at the New Eden Care Center Topeka, IN. Survivors include Brother, Elson Jay Yoder at home; Grandparents, Nelson & Esther Lehman of Goshen, IN. and Freeman & Betty Yoder of LaGrange, IN; Great-Grandparents, Joe B. & Mary Miller of Goshen, IN., Enos R. & Sadie Miller of Topeka, IN; Great-Grandmother, Sarah Jane Yoder of LaGrange, IN. Visitation will be from 10 AM - 1 PM Saturday at the Freeman J. Yoder Residence, 4135 South 150 West LaGrange, IN. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the same residence. Services will be conducted by the Bishop Elva Lambright and the home ministers of the Old Order Amish Church. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery, LaGrange, IN.

Mary Elaine Miller

Mary Elaine Miller, 36, 55514 CR 8, Middlebury, was born May 5, 1972, to Vernon and Alta (Marks) Miller in Elkhart County, Indiana, and lived near Middlebury all her life. She passed away at her home at 1:15 AM Wednesday, November 19, 2008, after a 7 1/2 year battle with cancer. She is survived by her mother, one brother: Samuel A. Miller, and three sisters: Rebecca I. Miller, E. Ruth Miller, and Kathleen J. Miller. She was preceded in death by her father, Vernon E. Miller, November 9, 2004. She helped in the family business, The Miller’s Cider Mill. She taught school for three years at the Old Brethren Christian School in Nappanee, and home-schooled several pupils. She wrote many poems, and recently she published a poem book, My Home by the River. She accepted Christ in her youth and was a faithful member of South Union Fellowship. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday 2:00 to 8: 00 pm, and the funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, all at Fairhaven Mennonite Church, 13511 State Road 4, Goshen. Walter Keim, Melvin Coning, and Harry Schrock will officiate. Burial will be at Clinton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Christian Aid Ministries.

William M. Chupp

William M. Chupp, 88, of 62444 CR 41 Goshen, IN. died at 9:55 PM on Friday, November 14, 2008 at his residence, he had been in declining health. He was born December 1, 1919 in Goshen, IN., to Moses E. and Susanna (Hochstetler) Chupp. He was born and lived his entire life at his current residence. On June 29, 1941 in Middlebury, IN he married Lydia J. Miller. He was a farmer and woodworker specializing in cabinet making. He was a member of Old Order Amish Church. Survivors include his wife, Lydia J. Chupp and 5 Daughters, Mary Etta & Stanley Yoder of Goshen, IN., Lora Mae & Lloyd D. Miller of Middlebury, IN, triplet daughters, Leanna & Elmer Wingard of Goshen, IN., Leorra & Freman Wingard of Shipshewana, IN., Leola & Elva Yoder of Middlebury, IN; 5 Sons, Mervin & Trudy Chupp of Goshen, IN., Delbert & Sarah Chupp of Millersburg, IN., Glen & Carolan Chupp of Goshen, IN., Floyd & Edna Chupp of Goshen, IN., Leroy & Lorene Chupp of Millersburg, IN.; 57 Grandchildren, 90 Great Grandchildren; and a Sister-in-law, Ella Mae Chupp of Goshen, IN. He was preceded in death by parents, twin infant children: Vernon & Verna Chupp, 2 brothers and 6 sisters. Visitation will be after 2 PM Sunday and all day Monday at the Floyd W. Chupp Residence, 62376 CR 41 Goshen. Funeral services will be at 9:30 PM on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at Mervin Dean Hostetler Residence, 11641 CR 30 Goshen, IN. Services will be conducted by the Bishop Perry S. Miller and the home ministers. Burial will be in Thomas Cemetery, Goshen.

Vera Pauline Hostetler

Vera Pauline Hostetler, 82, of 2230 South 625 West Topeka, IN died at 12:33 PM on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at her residence, after an extended illness. She was born December 18, 1925 in LaGrange County, IN., to Truman and Nona (Yoder) Mishler. She had lived in LaGrange County all her life. She was married by the Rev. Amos O. Hostetler on June 16, 1945 in her mother’s home to J. Richard Hostetler. She had worked at Ivers-Lee in Shipshewana as a supervisor from 1963-1968, as a teller at the Shipshewana Bank, at the Fought's General Store, Emma and at the Yoder Department Store, Shipshewana. Vera had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Emma Mennonite Church. In earlier years she taught Sunday School in the children's department, Bible School, and served a number of times on the food committee. She was a 1944 graduate of Shipshewana High School. Survivors include her husband; J. Richard Hostetler and 3 Sons; Steve & Carol Hostetler of Shipshewana, IN., Jim & Ronda Hostetler of Topeka, IN, and Doug & Dee Hostetler of Topeka, IN; 8 Grandchildren; Kerry Hostetler, Jeremy (Sara) Hostetler, Lori (Troy) Dubois, Matthew Hostetler, Jonathon Hostetler, Anthony Hostetler, Michael Hostetler and Mary Beth Hostetler, 4 Great Grandchildren; Evan and Ethan Hostetler, Mason and Luke Dubois, 2 Sisters; Mildred Mishler of LaGrange, IN, and Lauretta Weideman of Goshen, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son; Terry Hostetler, a brother; Ernest Mishler and a sister; Janice Yoder. Visitation will be from 2 - 8 PM Saturday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at Emma Mennonite Church, Topeka, IN. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Gene Hartman. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana. Memorials may be given to Emma Mennonite Church or Care at Home Hospice of Goshen General Hospital.

Betty L. Painter

Betty L. Painter, 72, of 9230 West 750 North Shipshewana, IN. died at 9:22 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at the Parkview LaGrange Hospital, LaGrange, IN. She was born February 21, 1936 in Parshall, ND, to Lewis and Martha (Lesser) Snyder. On November 19, 1954 in Mt. Hope, WV she married Audrey "Neale" Painter, he survives She was a Homemaker. Other survivors include her 4 sisters, Pearl Barnes of Redmond, WA, Olga Hamilton of Stark, FL, Carol Roshong of Leesville, LA, Dorothy Turner of Cleveland, TX; and a brother, William A. Snyder of Leesville, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Martha & Homer Sensing; her father, Lewis Snyder and an infant sister. Visitation will be from 2 - 4 PM Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury, IN. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 PM on Saturday also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Rick Lambright.

Levi J. Schrock

LEVI J. SCHROCK, 81, of Arthur, IL formerly of Middlebury, IN, passed away at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2009 at his residence rural Arthur, IL. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 19, 2009 at Calvary Chapel in Sturgis, MI. Rev. Tom Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in Goshen, IN. A visitation was held from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. at the Living Word Fellowship in Arthur, IL. Visitation will also be held from 1 to 5 pm Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury, IN. A visitation will also be held one hour prior to the services at the Calvary Chapel in Sturgis, MI. Levi was born July 17, 1927 in Arthur, IL. He was a son of Jacob and Fannie (Herschberger) Schrock. He married Mary Ellen (Knepp) November 23, 1950 in Shipshewana, IN. Survivors include his wife Mary Ellen Schrock of Arthur, IL; one daughter Karen Peachey and her husband Jonas of Arthur, IL and two sisters Lydia Gingerich and her husband Verton of Middlebury, IN and Lovina Glick of Goshen, IN; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. His parents; one daughter Rhoda Xavier, two grandchildren; two brothers Menno and Melvin Schrock and three sisters Susie Schrock, Pollyann Bontrager and Katie Miller preceded him in death. Levi was a Carpenter. He was also involved in Mission work for 9 years working in Canada at an Indian Residential School. He was a member of the Cavalry Chapel in Sturgis, MI.
