Eugene deVischEybergen
Sunday, May 24, 1925 - Wednesday, March 2, 2016

Owensville, IN - Eugene deVischEybergen, 90, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at VNA Hospice Center in Evansville.

Eugene was born in Pasirpadang, Indonesia on May 24, 1925 to the late Eugene and Nimsi deVischEybergen.

At the age of 14, Eugene was captured from his home in Indonesia and imprisoned in a Japanese concentration camp where he remained a prisoner for five years.

Upon his release he fled to his father’s native country of the Netherlands where he continued his education, became a proud member of the Royal Dutch Army, married and had four children.

Eugene loved the martial arts and became a 4th degree black belt in judo and shared his love and skills with the children he trained.

He immigrated to the United States in 1964, married Linda Tichenor nee Racine and eventually retired from a long career at Glidden in 1991.

Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Linda; his children, Eugenia (Alan) Mindlin of Naperville, IL; James, Anne Marie and Eugene of Daytona Beach, FL; step-children, Daniel (Lynn) Tichenor of Cincinnati, OH and Melinda (Nick) Miketinac of St. John, IN; grandchildren, Gabrielle, Alysia, Ryan, Cassandra, Gianna and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Avery and Alannah; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Henretta.

Our family wishes to thank the caring staff at DaVita Dialysis Center of Princeton, IN who became our second family over the course of his treatments also the nurses at VNA Hospice for their kindness and compassion during such a difficult time.

We will have a Celebration of Eugene’s life at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First General Baptist Church of Owensville P O Box 347 Owensville, IN 47665

Byron "Buck" Balyeat

Byron "Buck" Balyeat, 90, of 1510 Sycamore Court Goshen, formerly of Middlebury died at 6:45 PM on Friday, April 16, 2010 at his daughter's residence in Middlebury.

He was born February 21, 1920 in Middlebury to Bruce and Yetta (Goodyear) Balyeat.

On September 10, 1949 in Goshen he married Margaret K. Unzicker. She survives.

He was the owner/operator of Balyeat's Greenhouse, Middlebury for 30 years.

He was a WWII veteran serving in both the Army and Air Force and was a fast pitch softball pitcher for several years.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Margaret K. Balyeat are two daughters, Susan (Terry) Coddens of Middlebury, and Barbara (Steve) Fishman of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Jessica Fishman, Andrea Fishman, Brian Coddens; a sister, Lenore (Ted) Clarke of Henderson, NV.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM on Monday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Services will be conducted by Rev. William Steinke.

Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Middlebury.

Memorials may be given to Care at Home Hospice of Goshen General Hospital or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Middlebury.

Heidi Elizabeth Yoder

Heidi Elizabeth Yoder, of 4705 West State Road 120 Shipshewana, IN, was stillborn at 2:09 PM on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Elkhart General Hospital Elkhart.

She is survived by her parents, Michael and Elizabeth (Otto) Yoder; grandparents, David (Madelene) Yoder of Shipshewana, IN, Jerry (Angie) Otto of LaGrange, IN; great grandparents, George Hollowell of LaGrange, IN, Wendy Curtis of Butler, IN, Darlene Stump of Butler, IN, Polly Anna Otto of LaGrange, IN.

Private family services will be conducted.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.

Emily K. Miller

Emily K. Miller, 1 year and 8 months, of 5960 West 200 South Topeka, IN died at 5:56 PM on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at her grandparent's residence in Shipshewana from injuries sustained in a skid loader accident.

She was born July 31, 2008 in LaGrange, to Kenny V. and Ruby H. (Helmuth) Miller.

Surviving in addition to her parents are a bother, Ryan K. Miller, at home; two sets of grandparents, Vernon (Mary) Miller of Shipshewana, and Harvey (Betty) Helmuth of Shipshewana; great- grandparents, Allen (Judith) Kauffman of Middlebury; and a great grandmother, Iva Miller of Shipshewana; seven uncles and five aunts. She was preceded in death by a uncle.

Visitation will be after 10:00 AM on Friday at the Velda Wingard residence, 5930 West 200 South, Topeka.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the same residence.

Services will be conducted by Bishop Freeman Lambright and the home ministers.

Burial will be in Yoder Cemetery, Shipshewana.

George Edgar Shayler

George Shayler, age 95 of Shipshewana Indiana, passed away Tuesday April 13, 2010 at Parkview Hospital in LaGrange, Indiana.

Mr. Shayler was born June 24, 1914 in Gibson Twp, Bay County Michigan the son of John and Alice Elnora (Clements) Shayler.

Surviving is his wife Sylvia, of(18) years two sons Charles and Kathleen Shayler of Lakeview, Michigan, John Shayler of Clare, Michigan, four grandchildren Scott and (Tracy) Morgan of Flint, Michigan Mark and (Tammy) Shea of Clare, Michigan, (Jon) and Michelle Corbat of Flushing, Michigan and Nicholas Corbat of Swartz Creek, Michigan, five great grandchildren Christopher, Katie Shea, Colton Barbier, Brady and Austin Corbat along with several nieces and nephews along with may friends.

Mr. Shayler retired from Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan after 32 years.

George was a lover of horses showing horses at several different locations in Michigan.

After moving to Indiana, he worked years as a teamster with Riegsecker Carriage of Shipshewana Indiana.

He was preceded in death by is parents, first wife Alethia, daughter Georgia Lee Corbat, two sisters Maxine Shayler and Madeline Grinnell,, three brothers Manley Shayler, Harold Shayler and Fredrick Shayler.

Visitation will be Thursday 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm with funeral service Friday at 11:00am at Bristol United Methodist Church in Bristol, Indiana with Rev. Fred Stayton officiating, interment in be in Scott cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Miller-Stewart Funeral Home in Middlebury, In.

Memorials in the name of George E. Shayler may be made to Hospice of LaGrange County or Goshen Cancer Center.

Phyllis Delene Stanley

Phyllis Delene Stanley, 74, of 1900 Jeanwood Drive Elkhart, formerly of Middlebury, died at 2:55 PM on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Elkhart.

She was born November 26, 1935 in Brown County, IN., to Emerson and Mary Louise (Brown) Baird.

She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress pleating drapery both in here home and for Artisan Industries, Middlebury.

She was a member of the Marion Indiana Women's Bowling League.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Norris of Fullerton, CA; two sons, Craig Stanley of Elkhart, IN, and Bruce (Dinah) Craig of Middlebury, IN; seven grandchildren, a great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: James Edward, Charles Emerson and Gary Lyle Baird.

Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM Thursday at the Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, Middlebury.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Marcus Combs.

Memorials may be given to American Diabetic Association.

Raymond A. Gerber

Raymond A. Gerber, 84, of 406 West Crystal Valley Dr. Apt. 7 Middlebury, IN died at 1:30 AM on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at his residence, after his battle with cancer.

He was born June 21, 1925 in West Branch, MI., to Peter and Anna (Albrecht) Gerber.

On August 25, 1946 in Mio, MI. he married Olive Handrich.

He was a carpenter, farmer and worked for 13 years in maintenance for the Kalkaska School in Michigan.

Raymond attended Griner Mennonite Church and enjoyed music.

He loved the Lord with all his heart and was always concerned about everyone's salvation.

He placed great emphasis on loving his children and spending time with family.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Olive Gerber, are two daughters, Sharen Gerber of Canmer, KY, and Connie (Brian) Narmore of Grawn, MI; three sons, J.D. (Joy) Gerber of White Pigeon, MI, Daniel (Renee) Gerber of Hardyville, KY, and Timothy (Valerie) Gerber of Goshen, IN.; and a daughter-in-law, Bernice Gerber of Kalkaska, MI; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; a sister, Irene Zook of Kalkaska, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Elmer, Peter, and Joseph Gerber and a sister, Edith Yoder.

Visitation will be from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm, on Wednesday and from 9 - 10 AM Thursday all at the Griner Mennonite Church, Middlebury.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Griner Mennonite Church.

Services will be conducted by Rev. John Yoder and Rev. Robert Riegsecker.

Burial will be in the Griner Cemetery, Middlebury.

Memorials may be given to Gospel Echoes Team.
