James Robert Reed
Friday, August 27, 1926 - Wednesday, June 29, 2016

Fiskdale, MA - James “Robert” Reed, 89, formerly of Owensville, passed away June 29, 2016 at the Overlook Masonic Home in Charlton, MA. He was born in Gibson County on August 27, 1926 to the late Charles Henry and Anna (Bell) Reed. Robert attended Owensville School for 1 year finishing his high school at Howard School in Nashville and graduated in the class of 1943. He retired after 40 years as a Tool and Die Maker at Whirlpool Corporation. Robert was a member and Deacon for many years of the Maumee General Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years Joan (Robinson) Reed; daughter and son-in-law, Garnet (Reed) and James L. Olson; granddaughter, Lily Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James Paul Reed in 1976; brother, Don Charles Reed in 1970. Services will be held on Friday July 15, 2016 at noon at the Maumee General Baptist Church in Johnson with the Rev. Ken Nelson officiating and assisted by Kevin Miley. Burial will be in the Maumee Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at the church. Holders Funeral Home in Owensville is handling the arrangements. Annabel Violet Barrett
Saturday, August 17, 1918 - Tuesday, August 2, 2016

Owensville, IN - Annabel V. (Sokeland) Barrett, 97, passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at The Cottages of Good Samaritan Home in Oakland City. She was born in Gibson County on August 17, 1918 to the late Martin Welborn and Estel Ethel (McGregor) Sokeland. Annabel was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at the Oak Meadow Golf Club. Survivors include her children, Harold (Jo Ann) Barrett, Karen Keith of Owensville, Connie (Riley) Wiggins of Saraland, Alabama, Ron (Jo) Barrett of Johnson, Doyin (Patty) Barrett of Princeton, Kenny (Sandy) Barrett of Oden, Kent Barrett of Owensville; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rosalie Wallace of AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ben Barrett, son, Gary Barrett; brothers, Haskell, Millard, Golla and Martin Sokeland; sister, Bonnamae Williams. Services will be on Saturday, Aug 6, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holders Funeral Home with Bob Douglas officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Owensville. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time.

Princeton, IN - Debra E. (Varner) Gibbs, 61, passed away Saturday July 30, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN. She was born in Princeton, IN on December 24, 1954 to the late Francis Earl and Phyllis Jean (Straw) Varner. Debra was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, working puzzles and word searches. Survivors included her fiancé, Roger Jefferies of Princeton; children, Paul (Jamie) Gibbs of Poseyville; Angela Gibbs and Dana Schmitt of Ft. Branch; 5 grandchildren, Josh Roll, Kody Middleton, Rebecca Lamica, Dawn Miller and Jaxon Amyllia; one great-grandson, Leelend Middleton with one on the way; sister, Frances Jean (Jerry) Wheeler; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marion Curtis “Buddy” Varner. Service will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2016 at Noon at Holders Funeral Home with Donnie Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the Saulmon Cemetery near Poseyville. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. Memorial contribution may be made in Debra’s memory to the Saulmon Cemetery.

David Lee Henderson
Monday, April 30, 1951 - Friday, September 16, 2016

Owensville, IN - David Lee Henderson, 65, passed away Friday, September 16, 2016 at his residence. He was born April 30, 1951 in Princeton to the late Lee and Vera (Griggs) Henderson. David was a graduate of Owensville High School class of 1969. He served his country and retired after 20 years from the United States Air Force. He later worked for Walmart in the Human Resources Department for several years before retiring. David was a proud and devoted father / grandfather never missed a sporting or special event of the grandchildren. He was their number one supporter! Survivors included his daughters, Kathleen (Tony) Etolen and Abby Henderson; 6 grandchildren, Alexis Hannah, Elise, Raegan, David, Anthony AJ, and Nicholas Etolen; sister, Melissa (Ronie) Dike; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elise; sister, Christine. Services will be Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Holders Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Edwards officiating. The Retired Military Veterans will honor David with full military rites at 4:00 p.m. followed by visitation until the service hour.

Owensville, IN - Deborah Ann (Leister) Wilson, 61, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. She was born in Princeton on September 18, 1954 to the late Urmal J. and Elizabeth D. (Wall) Leister. Deb was a homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. Her favorite hobby was cooking for her family. She also had worked as a cook for many years. Survivors include her husband, James “Marshall” Wilson; sons, Zach (Amanda), Alex and Ian Wilson; daughter, Angie Carter; granddaughters, Faith and Violet Wilson; brothers, Jerome “Jerry” (Joyce) and Robert “Bob” Leister; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held on Monday July 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holders Funeral Home with Bob Douglas officiating. Burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. and again on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service time.

Betty Lou (Collins) Hoffman
Thursday, January 14, 1943 - Saturday, July 30, 2016

Betty Lou (Collins) Hoffman, 73, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at her residence. She was born on January 14, 1943 in Comfort, WV to the late Neille and Beulah G. (Edwards) Collins. Betty served her country in the United States Army. She was a QMA in healthcare working in several facilities including home care. She was actively involve with the head start program, and advocate for the children. Betty was even awarded the Mother of the Year with the head start. To name a few of her hobbies she enjoyed gardening, horseback riding and fast cars. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Gary Hoffman of Poseyville; sons, James (Marie) Hoffman of Owensville, Brian (Tabatha) Hoffman of Poseyville; 3 grandchildren, Scotty Wyatt, Jamie and Cody Hoffman. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Jean Clark; brother, James Collins. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the retired military veterans on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Evansville with John Pfister officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon at Holders Funeral Home and then go in procession to the cemetery led by the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders and the Indiana Chapter 6 Rolling Thunder. Memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to the Indiana Patriot Guard Riders or the Indiana Chapter 6 Rolling Thunder.

EDNA MAE (KIRBY) DOUGLAS ROY Edna Mae Roy 90 of Owensville IN passed away on Saturday July 23, 2016 at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville. She was born on July 17, 1926 in McLean County IL, the daughter of Walter and Bertha (Fravel) Kirby. Edna Mae graduated from Princeton High School. She worked as a clerk at K-mart. She is survived by two nephews Kenneth G. Smith and Dick R Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands Jerry Douglas and Jerry Roy. A visitation will be on Wednesday July 27 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 at Holders Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Bob Douglas officiating.
