Ruth Evelyn Mathew
Cynthiana, IN - Ruth Evelyn (Moore) Mathew, 89, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Pine Haven Health and Rehab in Evansville. She was born on October 15, 1926 in Gibson County the daughter of Jesse Lee and Clara Marie (Caldwell) Moore. Ruth graduated from Griffin High School in 1945. married Raymond J. Mathew on Feb. 6, 1946 and worked for the United States Postal services for 17 years at the post office in Cynthiana. She was a member of the Cynthiana Chapter of Order of Eastern Star #445. Survivors include her 3 children, Donna (Ed) Hertel, Karen (Gordon) Jones and David (Kathy) Mathew all of Evansville; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Margaret Overton. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond on March 15, 2014; great-grandson, Brock Hertel; sisters, Beulah Straw and Lois Titzer brother William H. Moore. Services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holders Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Hubachek officiating. Burial will be in Calvert Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family would like to personally thank the staff at Pine Haven for the compassionate care extended to their mother and grandmother.
James Robinson
James Robinson 73, passed away at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville, Indiana on January 17th, 2016. Born April 24, 1942 in Madison, Indiana to Charles and Virginia Robinson he was one of ten children. Following high school graduation he served in the U.S. Army 1961 to 1964. In 1965 he married the former Sandra Beadles of Spurgeon, Indiana. They and the children continued to live in Madison until he was no longer able to work due to health problems. In 1976 the family moved to Owensville, but Jim’s heart would always be in Madison. He was the town’s best ambassador. He was a member of Owensville American Legion Post # 51 and Indiana Freemason of Union Lodge #2 in Madison. Jim would have been a 50 year member June 12th of this year. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Robinson; children, Mindy (Ben) Tobe and Jim (Jennifer) Robinson both of Owensville, Chad (Lisa) Robinson of Lima, OH. Grandchildren, Todd Miley, Megan and Jordan Robinson, Madison Wildt, Paige, Emma and Rachel Tobe. Sisters, Mary DeCar, Polly Stewart, Rose Ball of Madison and Anita Scholey of Oklahoma. His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 7pm at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville. Visitation will be from 4 pm until the service time. A Masonic Service will be held at 7 PM by the Cynthiana Masonic Lodge # 710. Jim’s cremains will be interred at Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or your charity of choice.
Robert Earl Winstead
Robert Earl Winstead, 87, of Owensville passed away at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana on February 2, 2016. He was born June 11, 1928 in Blackford, Kentucky to Strother and Edna Winstead. Robert was a Whirlpool employee along with being a truck driver. He was a member of the First Christian Church, and he served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Anna Ruth (Bruce) Winstead, daughter, Sherri (Roger) Douglas, son, Kent (Jackie) Winstead; brother, James O. Winstead. 7 grandchildren, Katie Winstead, Trisha Dewitt, Jeremia and Joshua Sterkel, Nicol Silvers and Joshua Douglas, and Chelsea(Chad) Hogan. He also had several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Joyce Mann, and brother William T. Winstead. Services will be held on Friday February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Holders Funeral Home with Rex Charles officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in Mauck Cemetery. Military graveside service by the Retired Military Veterans.
Bonnie Lucile (Shelton) Austin
Bonnie Lucile Austin, 91, Owensville, Indiana Bonnie Lucile (Shelton) Austin went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 19, 2016 at her home in Owensville, Indiana. In honoring her request, a graveside service will be held at Hopewell Cemetery in Wayne County, Illinois at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2016. Bonnie was born on April 7, 1924 in Paxton, Illinois, the daughter of the late Fred and Fern (Barringer) Shelton. She married Richard Austin on July 12, 1948 and he preceded her in death on November 13, 1975. She lived most of her life in Wayne City, Illinois. Bonnie always had a smile and warm greeting for everyone. She cherished most of all her children and grandchildren and they all thought the world of her. Her favorite working years were spent at the Shell Mart in Wayne City where she loved taking care of customers and visiting with everyone who came through the doors. She leaves many friends and her beloved family, daughters Patty (Jerry) Sharp, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois and Sandra (Rick) Irvine, of Grayville, Illinois and son Denny (Laurel) Austin of Owensville, Indiana; granddaughter Rachel (Jerod) Johnson of Franklin, Tennessee and grandson Ryan (Stacy) Austin of Wayne City, Illinois; four great-granddaughters, three great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter; sisters Cathy Hunter and Dorothy Talbert of Wayne City, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael, three sisters and two brothers. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to select a charity of your choice. Holder Funeral Home in Owensville, Indiana is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lisa Mae (Jackson) Long
Lisa Mae (Jackson) Long, 46, passed away Tuesday February 2, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She was born February 20, 1969 to the late Jim and Wanda Jackson in Indianapolis, Indiana. Lisa was a server at Sandy’s Pizza for three years, and was also a stay at home mom. Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Scott; sons, Brant (Sarah) Jackson and Jared Long; two grandchildren, Hunter and Harper Jackson. Services will be held Saturday February 6, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Holders Funeral Home with Steve Von Bokern officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lisa Long Memorial Fund c/o Holders Funeral Home.
Theresa Gail (Stremming) Roudebush
Owensville, IN - Theresa Gail (Stremming) Roudebush, 57, of Owensville, Indiana, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, returned home to the Lord on February 20th, 2016. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home after battling a long illness. Theresa was born August 16, 1958 to Roy and Katrina (McKee) Stremming in Evansville, IN. She grew up in Sandborn, IN and graduated from L & M High School. She received an Associate Degree from Vincennes University, a Bachelor’s Degree from Oakland City University, and a Master of Education from Indiana State University of Evansville. She taught several years for South Gibson School Corporation after being a loving, stay-at-home mother to her two children. She served for 12 years as the Montgomery Township Trustee. She was a member of Old Union Christian Church where she taught Sunday School. Theresa enjoyed reading, her pets, and taking many trips to Southwest Florida to visit her first granddaughter and family. Most of all, Theresa adored her two granddaughters. Theresa is survived by her husband of 35 years, Jeffrey Roudebush; two children, Joshua Roudebush of Owensville and Abigail (Blake) Elpers of Haubstadt; two grandchildren, Zoey and Ivy Elpers; her mother, Katrina Stremming; a sister, Anita Gilbert; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy Stremming, and a brother-in-law, Stanley Gilbert. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 24, 2016 at Holders Funeral Home in Owensville with the Rev. David McConnell officiating. Burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Southern Care Hospice or to your favorite charity.
Virginia Ruth Thompson
Owensville, IN - Virginia Ruth (Matsel) Thompson, 89, passed away at her home surrounded by all of her family, Saturday, April 9, 2016. She was born July 5, 1926 in Gibson County, IN to Earl and Maude (Hudson) Matsel. In 1943, she married the love of her life Bernard Thompson. She was a cook at the Owensville Community School for 23 years, during those years she raised 4 children and helped take care of her grandchildren. Her family was her pride and joy. Ruth was devoted to her faith in the Lord and was a member and faithfully attended the First Christian Church of Owensville. She loved to paint and do crafts especially enjoyed quilting. In fact she made all of her children and grandchildren a quilt to be given to them on their wedding day. She also loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruth is survived by her husband of 72 years, Bernard; children, Danny (Brenda) Thompson of Greenwood, IN, Jerry (Kari) Thompson of McKinney TX, Tim (Carla) Thompson and Jennifer (Jim) Robinson both of Owensville; 11 grandchildren, Kandi Henriott, Stephen Thompson, Kevin Thompson, Cynthia Gibbons, Susan Hon, Brad Thompson, Stacey McLaughlin, Megan and Jordan Robinson, Logan Thompson and Ashley Adams; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Earl, Carl and Everett “Doc” Matsel, Mary Ellen Thompson, Karen Key, Kay Reed, Emma Frances Farney and Grace York. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holders Funeral home with Bart Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Owensville Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 from 4-8 pm. Memorial contribution may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142
