David Lee Curtis, 74, Indianapolis, was called home on August 12, 2016 to share a belated 50-year anniversary with his beloved wife Judy. Born March 21, 1942 in Indianapolis to the late Carl and Elizabeth Curtis, Dave graduated from Southport High School in 1960 and married Judith Elrod in 1961. He worked for 34 years at the Ford Motor Co. transmission plant on English Avenue, retiring in 1995. As a devoted husband, dad and grandpa, Dave spent his life enjoying family events, fishing, playing cards, conducting his annual Easter egg hunt, leading the “Hokie Pokie” at wedding receptions, and attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, where he was always quick with a helpful tip for a coach, umpire or referee. Dave also enjoyed traveling with Judy, family and friends, with fall trips to Maine, fishing trips to Wisconsin, lucky getaways to Las Vegas, and his many cruises being some of his favorites. He almost singlehandedly kept “Hallmark” in business by sending a timely card to his children or grandchildren for most any occasion. Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Judy. Surviving are his children, Debbie (Don) Applegate, Bonnie Larosa, Jeff (Angie), Mike (Lynette), and Phil (Lori) Curtis; 16 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family expresses its deep gratitude to Dave’s friends and amazing caregivers at Rosegate and St. Francis Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at St. Jude Catholic Church, of which Dave was a member, with burial following at Calvary Cemetery. Christopher Hurrle, 55, Indianapolis passed away Sunday, September 11, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis on March 24, 1961 to Robert J. and Marilyn Arbuckle Hurrle. Chris was a 1979 graduate of Perry Meridian High School and worked for Midwest Construction as a supervisor. He was a member of Carpenters Local Union 301. Chris was preceded in death by his father; and his son, Phillip Hurrle. He is survived by his children, Joshua (Amanda), Nathaniel, Stephanie, and Elizabeth; 15 grandchildren; mother; sisters, Cathy Bray (Gary), Karen Barthelmes (Dave), Lynn Cox (Dave), Terri Adams (Steve), Jenni Peterman; and his brother, Jim (Patsy). Visitation will be Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Catholic Church immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.

Mary Theresa Pulsifer, 95, Mooresville, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She was born in Indianapolis on August 12, 1921 to Hubert and Therese Blankart Guelden. Mary was a homemaker and member of the Indianapolis Hiking Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred F. Pulsifer and is survived by her sons, Joseph of Katy, TX and Richard of Mooresville, IN; and her grandson, Sean of Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 12 noon in St. Mark Catholic Church with calling at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Rose Mary Kavanaugh died Monday, September 5, 2016 at St. Paul Hermitage, Beech Grove, IN. She was 96. Rose was born November 16, 1919, at home on the family farm near Cannelburg, IN. She was the eleventh and youngest child of John and Mary E. "Mayme" (O'Connor) Kavanaugh. According to family lore, she weighed only 1.5 lbs. at birth. She was called "Pee Wee" by her siblings, who would put her in a shoe box, tie a string to it, and pull her around the house. She was graduated from St. Theresa High School in Detroit, MI, in 1938. In 1939, Rose entered the Benedictine Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand, IN, and received the religious name Sister Rosemond. In 1950, Rose was graduated from St. Benedict College in Ferdinand, with a Bachelor of Science degree in education; in 1968, she received a Master of Science degree in education, with a concentration in guidance and counseling, from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, IN. In 1955, Sister Rosemond became one of the 113 foundresses of Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove, IN. While a Sister, Rose taught school for many years in southern Indiana and in Indianapolis at St. Pius X School, where she was principal, and at St. Barnabas School. In 1972, she requested and received release from her religious vows. After leaving the monastery, she was employed as a social worker at Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center in West Indianapolis. Rose once said that her work at the neighborhood center was one of the most satisfying times of her life and that it gave her a great appreciation for the blessings she had received in her own life. In 1980, she returned to teaching and spent the next decade at St. Jude School in Indianapolis. She retired in 1990 at the age of 70. In retirement, Rose served for several years as a substitute teacher and gave private tutoring lessons. Prior to, and following, retirement, she was a very active volunteer at her parish of St. Barnabas, where she was involved in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and served as a catechist in the parish's grade school religious education program. Preceding her in death were her parents and her 10 siblings: Timothy, Vincent, Albert, Marie (Benedictine Sister Bernice of Monastery Immaculate Conception), Harry, Bernard, Louis, Frank, Catherine, and Josephine ( Benedictine Sister Mary Charlotte, also of Monastery Immaculate Conception). Sister Bernice lived to be 102 years old, Harry was 99 years old at the time of his death in 2006, and Sister Mary Charlotte was 98 years old when she died in 2014. Rose is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and hundreds of former pupils. Friends may call at Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. Bratcher (Brad) B. DeMarcus, 72, died peacefully on Friday August 26 at the Indiana Veterans’ Home in West Lafayette, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Bernadine O’Rourke DeMarcus and Bradford B. DeMarcus. Brad lived most of his life on Sloan Ave. on Indy’s southeast side and was a devoted son. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967. Early on, Brad worked as an electronics technician in Beech Grove at Wavetek Corporation and in later years, at Applied Instruments, Inc. Graveside services will be held at the Indiana Veterans’ Home in West Lafayette on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana Veterans’ Home.

Charmaine Hoffman Field was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on August 22, 2016, after years of receiving the devoted care of her daughter Colleen. Born June 19, 1933 to Alban and Viola Quick Hoffman in Jackson, Michigan, she joins her loving husband of 54 years, Arthur F. Field, III, in their eternal home. Charmaine attended Little Flower Grade School and graduated from St. Agnes Academy where she had been selected as the school’s Ideal Teen. She worked at Indiana Bell Telephone Co. until she began her career as a mother. Throughout her life, Charmaine was known for her kindnesses, her faith, her volunteer work and support of Right to Life, St. Mary’s Child Center, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Jude Catholic Church and all organizations and schools her children and grandchildren attended. Charmaine had been an active member of the Indianapolis Athletic Club and the Columbia Club. She was also an avid golfer and member of the Country Club of Indianapolis, and the beloved administrative assistant of Arthur F. Field, III CPA firm for over 25 years.
Charmaine was predeceased by her brothers, Richard Hoffman and Jim Wechsler; sister, Marilyn Schneider; son, Kevin Field; and daughter-in-law, Melissa. She is survived by her children, Arthur IV, Karen (David) McDowell, Kathleen (Stephen) Heath, Colleen, Maureen (Timothy) Annee, and Charmaine (James) Cota; eighteen grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her brother, Ted Miller; and numerous lifetime friends and loving family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Jude Catholic Church, 5353 McFarland Road, Indianapolis, IN 46227 on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home. The Rosary prayer service will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be additional visitation at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 12 noon until prayers at 1 p.m. prior to Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Catholic Church.

George M. Greer, 54, Indianapolis, passed away Friday, August 5, 2016. He was born in Indianapolis on August 12, 1961 to Robert M. and Eleanor Theresa Prestel Greer. He is survived by his sons, Curtis and Marcus Greer; brothers, Tom (Maureen), Bob, Al (Jennifer), John (Natalee); sister, Cindy Scott (Larry); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Greer; and his sister, Diane T. Faulkner. George was a PGA assistant pro at Sarah Shank Golf Course and a greens keeper at Bluff Creek Golf Course. Visitation will be Monday, August 8, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Daniel F. O'Riley Funeral Home, 6107 S. East St. (US Hwy 31 South), Indianapolis, IN 46227 with a funeral service on Tuesday at 12 noon in the funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
