Born in Burnettsville, he was the son of Fred and Blanche Brooks Hershberger. On Nov. 29, 1968, in Logansport, he was married to Dian R. Mayhill, who survives. Gene was in the Indiana National Guard and served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Walton Post of the American Legion. He was employed as a groundskeeper at Mount Hope Cemetery. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Diana Hershberger; four daughters, Sherry Risley, Lory Hughes, Tracy Yeo and Candy Tuttle; three stepdaughters and their spouses, Christina and Mark Gillaspy, Vickie and Mark Black and Jackie and Forest Hamilton; two sisters, Barbara Baer and Elizabeth Miller; nine grandsons, Kelly Henry and his wife Kristi, Tom Risley, Austin Hughes, Mark Black Jr., Michael Black, Michael Hamilton, Alex Hamilton, Joshua Hershberger and Logan Yeo; six granddaughters, April Risley, Lacy Miller, Ashley Miller, Tabatha Black, Amber Black and Andrea Black; two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Henry and Peyton Risley; and several nieces and nephews. One son, Mark Hershberger, and one sister, Velma Gates, preceded in death. Rev. William Art Maloney will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Davis Cemetery. Velma L. Rager

Born in Sturgis, Michigan, she was the daughter of Curtis and Blanche Seery Miser. On June 12, 1929, she was married to Carl B. Rager who preceded in death July 12, 1976. Surivivng are one daughter, Shirley Hines and one sister. She was preceded in death by one son, Lawrence C. Rager.
Lawrence R. Healey

Born in Cass County, he was the son of Charles John and Leona F. Smith Healey. On April 19, 1959, in McComb, Miss., he was married to Vera Magee, who survives. Mr. Healey, 1939 graduate of Burnettsville High School, retired from Delco Electronics in 1986 after 26 years as an electrician. A devout Christian, he was a member of the Victory Baptist Church. He also helped found and build the Hillcrest Baptist Church in the late 1960's. Mr. Healey was a member of the American Legion Post 60. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Healey served during World War II in the Pacific Theater after having entered the service in April, 1941. He was assigned to the Military Police until after the Pearl Harbor attack, then he shipped out to New Guinea as a rifleman. His unit fought its way up the Pacific to the Philippines. His military service ended on Nov. 10, 1945. Surviving with his wife are two sons, Lawrence Dale Healey and Lloyd David Healey; one brother, Paul B. Healey; and two sisters, Madella Gillinger and Millicent Wooten. Three brothers and two sisters preceded in death. The Rev. Ralph Hanson will officiate at the services. Burial, with military rites, will be in Paint Creek Cemetery, Camden.
Vala F. Taylor Connell

Visitation times are: 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Born in Cass County, she was the daughter of Charlie and Elise Beaver Gallaher. On Nov. 27,1938, she married Virgil Taylor who died Dec. 15, 1964. She was then married on Dec. 31, 1966, to Charley Connell, who died Sept. 15, 1997. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church. She was retired from Valley Tool and Die as a machinist. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Virgil and Cathy Taylor; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Leota and Leland Patty, Kay and Dale Magee, and Vera Belle Taylor; one step-son, Don Connell; one step-daughter and her husband, Bev and Calvin Lehr; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Diane Jordon. Pastor Edward L. Locke will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery, Burnettsville.
Mary E. Myer

Born in Normal, Illinois, she was the daughter of Ernest E. and Gertrude E. Castle Cox. On Feb. 22, 1942, in Chenoa, Illinois, she was married to Kenneth O. Myer who preceded in death February 10, 1992. A homemaker and also a retired teacher, she had taught school in Illinois and Indian Heights at Kokomo. She had attended Eureka College and in 1939, she graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a B.S. degree in Education. Mrs. Myer was a member of the Walton U.M. Church. Surviving are seven sons, Bernard E. Myer, Karl E. Myer, Loren E. Myer, Randall E. Myer, Paul E. Myer, Dean E. Myer, and Daniel E. Myer; one daughter, Nancy E. Myer; one foster daughter, Kay Collins; fourteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Robert Cree will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery, Chenoa, Illinois.
Don R. Shaff

Born in Cass County, he was the son of Carl Lucas and Mable Ruth Jones Shaff. On Dec. 6, 1947, in Logansport, he was married to Helen Miller, who survives. In 1983, Mr. Shaff retired from Conrail, where he had worked for 33 years as a freight engineer. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during WWII. He was a member of the Walton American Legion Post 418, the Logansport Veterans of Foreign Wars #3790 and the Logansport Elks Lodge No. 66. He enjoyed golfing and watching sports. Also surviving are his daughter and her fiance, Christy Sweet & Drew Wharton; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Christie Shaff; one brother, Sam Shaff; two sisters, Dierdre Strube and Geraldine Cook; four grandchildren, Tori Sweet, Mandy, Aaron & Adam Shaff; two step-grandchildren, Joe Sweet and Jamie Douglas; one great-granddaughter, Allison Woodall; two step-great-grandchildren, Addy & Cameron Douglas; and several nieces and nephews. James L. Fiedler

Born in Logansport, he was the son of Lowell E. and Carol E. Forgey Fiedler. He was married Aug. 21, 1993, in Logansport, to Jo Ann Rader, who survives. Jim pioneered the high-performance racing spring division at Rockwell International, now known as Matthew-Warren, where he worked for 42 years. He was instrumental in establishing their spring designs as the dominant spring throughout all classes of the auto racing industry. His professional associations include NASCAR, Indy Car, Formula One and SEMA. Also surviving are three daughters, Kim Boster, Ronda Rader and Rozlyn Rader; one son, Michael Rader; and one granddaughter, Emily Boster.
