Born in Davenport, Iowa, she was the daughter of George and Mary Gladys Black Purcell. She was married to Bernard Callender, who preceded in death. She lived in Tucson for 23 years. She was an active member of the Saguaro Christian Church where a memorial service was hel Monday, Dec. 17, 2001. Surviving are one son, Bud Callender; one daugher, Annette Alexander; three grandsons, Joshua and Zachary Alexander and Matthew Callender; one granddaughter, Sarah Callender; one brother, George Purcell; and four sisters, Jeanette Foy, Kate Jungerman, Virginia Seavers and Winifred Rodkey.
Lova B. (Timmons) Stratton Allen

Born Sept. 9, 1917, in Carroll County, she was the daughter of Charles and Myrtle I. James Timmons. She was married to Ernest E. Allen, who preceded in death. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She also worked as an attendant at Economy Cleaners of Logansport. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Barbara Stratton; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Harold Howell; one brother, Palmer Timmons; one sister, Lucille Davis; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Two brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded in death.

Born in Lajunta, Colorado, he was the son of Delzel and Esther Jane Miller Martin. On Jan. 20, 1941, in Delphi, he was married to Eleanor Mae Ragle, who survives. He was a retired carpenter working with the carpenters union local in Lafayette. Mr. Martin attended First Assembly of God. He enjoyed calling square dances, coin collecting, fishing, gardening, flowers, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was a member of the local coin club. Surviving with his wife are five daughers and their families: Kae Swanson and her children, Michael Swanson, Veronica Swanson and Theresa Smith; Karen Johnson and her children, Dezz Ropp, Jodie Heitmann and Tracy Berry; Karyl Banter and her children, Bill and John Banter; Jeanne Gunther and her children, Jimmy Gunther and Billie Jean Gunther; and Willa Dee Peterson and her children, Aaron Stoner, Jason Stoner, James Peterson, Kimberly Peterson and Amanda Peterson; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Jerussia (Esther) Nethercutt. One granddaughter, Angelique LaOrange, one sister, Flossie Elizabeth Andrew, and two brothers, John Lloyd Martin and Robert Archie Martin, preceded in death. Burial will be in Bell Center Cemetery, Royal Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the CASA program.
Laverne "Verne" Albert Clark

He died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001, in Indiana University Medical Center. Born in Knox, he was the son of Orvel and Sybil Graffis Clark. On Aug. 13, 1975, in Logansport, he was married to Sally Harvey, who survives. He was a retired Cass County Highway worker and the owner of Sal Transit of Logansport. He served with the U.S. Army in the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Lucerne Christian Church and the Moose Lodge in Rochester. Also surviving are one daughter, Sherry Shipley; two step-daughters, Kimberly Minniear and Beth Skaggs; one step-son, John Arthington; one sister, Karen Jennings; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Toots and Jack Harvey; and six grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association.
Ronald Eddison Frantz

Mr Frantz died Dec. 27, 2001, in Miller's Merry Manor. Born in Kosciusko County, he was the son of Charles Emerson and Lena P. Miller Frantz. On Dec. 31, 1939, he was married to Ellen May Grant, who survives. Mr. Frantz was a member of the Anoka United Methodist Church. In earlier years, he was a n active leader in 4-H and the Grange. He was a past member of the Miami-Cass REMC Board of Directors. For twenty-five years, hea dn his wife enjoyed winters in Avon Park, Florida. Farming was not only his occupation but also something he enjoyed immensely. His other hobbies included fishing, coon hunting and spending time with his family. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, R. Maurice & Janis Frant, and Stanley Joe & Linda Frantz; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie Kay and the late Joe Jones; two sisters, Evelyn Morrow Smith and Lauretta Parr; eight grandchildren, Rod Frantz, Mary Beth Vredingburgh, Chris Jones, Davy Jones, Holly Cromwell, Brad Frantz, Brian Frantz and Todd Frantz; fifteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Jim Abbott will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Deer Creek Cemetery, Onward. Memorial contributions may be made to the Anoka U.M. Church.
G. Lorraine "Lolly" Rehwald

She died at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in her residence. Born March 24, 1922, in Weed, California, she was the daughter of William J. and Emelia G. Morin Bartell. Lorraine graduated in 1940 from R.A. Long High School in Longview, Washington. She met Richard Rehwald during WWII and on March 10, 1944, they were married in Seattle, Washington while her husband was serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations. Her husband preceded in death July 22, 1975. She was a Civil Service employee, coding and decoding overseas shipments to war zones. They came to live in Logansport in 1945. Later, Richard was a city fireman and Lorraine was a seamstress, tax preparer, a well-known caterer and the former secretary at St. James Church. In 1987, she retired from Logansport State Hospital, having worked 15 1/2 years in the dietary department and most recently as a clerk typist in the medical services area. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking, poetry, her church and spending time with her family. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Lynne L. and Howard "Sonny" Berkshire, Logansport; one granddaughter, Laura Starkey Dillon, who made her home with her grandparents since infancy; two grandsons, Scott Berkshire and Tony Berkshire, both of Logansport; five great-grandchildren, Haley Dillon, Mathew Berkshire, Derek Berkshire, Erin Reahard and Stephanie Reahard; one sister, Virginia Talbott, of Perrysburg, Ohio. One daughter, Patricia L. Starkey preceded in death May 1, 1978. Two brothers, John Bartell and Arleigh Bartell also preceded in death.
Barbara E. Schull Wolfe

Born in Logansport, she was the daughter of Thomas L. and Genevieve D. Snyder Schull. On June 1, 1953, in Logansport, she was married to Bert Wolfe, who survives. Barbara graduated from Logansport High School in 1947 and attended Indiana University and the Indiana Business College at Logansport. She was appointed to the post of Eel Township Trustee in november 1977, serving for one term. She also worked as an investigator for Eel Township and was the organizing secretary of the Cass County Drainage Board. She had previously been associated with the U.S. Air Force, serving as a clerk at Grissom AFB in Provisions and Procurements, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor. A member of the All Saints Catholic Church, Barbara was an organizer of the Cass County Genealogical Society. Genealogy was her field of expertise, not only a hobby but something she loved to do, especially helping others who were researching their ancestry. She helped organize many birth, death and burial records in this area. One of her most recent projects was establishing the War Dog Memorial at the City Building. She was a member of the Indiana Pioneers First Settlers of Cass and Pulaski Counties. She was a member of the Housing Authority Coalition and worked with the summer youth program in 1976 cleaning cemetery and historical points of interest in Cass County. She was an organizer and past president of the Cass County Democrat Women's Club. Another hobby she enjoyed was crocheting. She was also a member of the Retail Clerks Local 24 and the AIWA 668. Surviving with her husband are one sister, Joan Scherer; one aunt, Isabelle Moore; two cousins, Isabell Brey and Virginia Moore; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Catholic Church and the Cass County Historical Society. Burial, at a later date, will be in Mount Calvary section of Mount Hope Cemetery.
Lucille Haines

Born in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of William G. and Elsie Zelner O'Harra. She was married on Sept. 5, 1937, in Logansport, to William L. Haines, who preceded in death March 1, 1995. She and her husband had owned and operated the Sunset Motel for 22 years before retiring in 1981. Lucille was a graduate of Logansport High School and Logansport Business College. She was a member and past president of the Logansport Lioness Club. Surviving are one son, Michael Haines; four grandsons, Kevin Frye, Mark Haines, Christopher Haines and Patrick Haines; one granddaughter, Kathy Haines; one brother, Frances L. O'Harra; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Haines; and one brother.
