Jayden died at 4:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, in his residence. Born July 3, 2002, in Logansport, he was the son of Tony and Jessica Moss Berkshire, who survive. Jayden and his family attended the East Main Street Church of God. Surviving with his parents are his twin sister, Jazmin Renae, and his older sister, Alyssa Nicole, both at home; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Vicky and Ken Pytlik, St. Petersburg, Florida; his paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Jim and Cara Berkshire, Winamac; maternal great-grandparents, Frank & Nancy Miner, Logansport, and Margaret Berkshire, Winamac; paternal great-great-grandmother, Averil Coles, Logansport; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Cindy Strayer & Ron Carithers, Logansport; his maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Mark and Doris Moss, Logansport; maternal great grandparents, Chuck and Wanda Anderson, Logansport; maternal step-great-grandparents, Shirley Carithers, Logansport, and Bill Carithers, Missouri; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Rudolph O. "Rudy" Strauch

He died at 11:23 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, in Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born in Royal Center, Dec. 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Albert H. and Nellie Mae Oatess Strauch. On Jan. 23, 1944, in Logansport, he married Roselea Neher, who preceded in death March 10, 1991. On Feb. 28, 1992, in Logansport, he married Virginia Snavley who preceded in death Dec. 27, 1997. In 1984, he retired from ConRail where he had worked for 33 years as a Police Department Detective. He was a 1942 graduate of Royal Center High School. Rudy was a member of the Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church. He was a member of Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge #33, the Indianapolis Valley of Scottish Rite, the Chapter, Council and St. John's Commandary-York Rite of Logansport; Logansport Lions Club; Murat Shrine; Logansport Shrine Club; Railroad Veterans Association; Hoosier Clan "Hillbilly Degree"; Fraternal Order of Police; and the Logansport Eagles Aerie No. 323. Rudy had compiled a written history of railroading in Cass County. He enjoyed model railroading and also model radio-controlled airplanes. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Minglin, New Waverly, and Bunnie Emmerd, Twelve Mile; one sister, Dorothea M. Ellar, McGrawsville; a special friend, Frieda M. Smith; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheatland Avenue United Methodist Church.
Shirley J. Malchow

She died at her residence Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. Born in Cass County, she was the daughter of Herbert V. and Mary P. Henline Rance. On Jan. 6, 1988, in Monticello, she was married to Glen Malchow, who preceded in death Aug. 26, 2001. She was a graduate of Logansport High School. A homemaker, Shirley was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting. Surviving are two sons, Joseph S. Hernandez II, Monticello, and Ronald L. Hernandez, Lebanon; two daughters, Cindy L. Tyler, Lebanon, and Tammy J. Hernandez, Lebanon; one step-son, Tim Hickman, San Antonio, Texas; one brother, Terry D. Rance, Logansport; two sisters, Darlene Blackman, Fort Wayne, and Barbara McCoy, Monticello; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman and Ronald Rance. Memorial contributioins may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Lester J. Aaron, 95, Brooksville, Florida, formerly of Logansport, died at 11:26 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, in his residence. Born in Milford, Illinois, he was the son of Frank and Susan Dale Aaron. He was married to Katherine L. Robinson Aaron who preceded in death Dec. 9, 1989. Surviving are three sons, Lester Aaron, Frankfort, Richard Aaron, Mountainview, Arkansas, and Larry Aaron, former Logansport auctioneer now living in Englewood, Florida; three daughters, Lois LeHew, New Brunsfeld, Texas, Dorothy P. Dennis, Bronson, Florida, and Connie Fiedorowicz, Brooksville, Florida; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as several great-great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters preceded in death.

He died at 7:39 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9th at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born in Evansville, he was the son of William J. and Mary Sue Smallwood Horn. On April 20, 1985, in Monticello, he was married to Mary Burns Horn, who survives. A 1977 graduate of Twin Lakes High School, Clay owned and operated Clay Horn Plumbing. He had worked for Scheyrich Plumbing and Heating for 13 years. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. He was also a member of the American Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Indiana, Inc., Pine View Golf Course, the National Rifle Association, the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society and Pheasants Forever. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer and had coached Woodlawn girls basketball camps. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Katie Ann Horn and Shelby Lynn Horn, at home; his mother, Mary Sue Smallwood Horn Saxe; two brothers, William "Andy" Horn and his wife Diane, Evansville, and James David Saxe and his wife, Julie, Carmel; three sisters, Christine Horn Stafford TenBarge, Salt Lake City, Utah, Samantha "Sam" Ann Horn Newman and her husband, Steve, Evansville, and Dana Sue Saxe, Apex, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Horn and his step-father, C. David Saxe. Memorial contributions may be made to the custodial education fund for Katie and Shelby Horn.

She died at 6:36 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, in White County Memorial Hospital. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the daughter of Robert and Bessie L. Priest Miller. On June 3, 1939, in Rensselaer, she was married to Harold Epler who preceded in death June 17, 1985. She graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1939 and then attended Beauty School. She worked as a beautician and was also an antique dealer and enthusiast. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Spanburg and her husband, Charles, of Cedar Lake, and Joyce Tevis, of Wolcott; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Her son, Ronald Epler, preceded in death August 4, 1997. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Clifford C. Burkett

He died at 8:54 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16th in Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born in Cass County, he was the son of Emmett and Bertha E. Stephenson Burkett. On Jan. 11, 1953, in Logansport, he was married to Diexie J. Cottingham, who survives. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 60, Eagles Aerie No. 323, and a life member of VFW Post 3790. He retired from Nelson Screw in May 2002 after 41 years of employment. Surviving with his wife of 49 years are three sons, Kevin Wayne Burkett, Philadelphia, PA, Ronald Alan Burkett, Lafayette, and Mark Edward Burkett, Logansport; one brother, Raymond Burkett, Auburn; three sisters, Grace Frye, Burrows, Pauline Baber, Logansport, and Helen Cunningham, Lafayette, seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Arland Burkett; one sister, Margaret Snyder; four brothers, Edward, David, Donald and Joseph A. Burkett; and one grandson, Jared Levi Burkett.
John "Jack" Germaine

He died at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, in Home Hospital, Lafayette. Born April 11, 1931, in Cicero, Illinois, he was the son of Louis H. and Ruth I. Ledford Germaine. On August 17, 1953, in Illinois, he was married to Ruth Ann Wall, who survives. Mr. Germaine was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was retired from Chrysler Corporation in Kokomo after 30 years of employment. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing the harmonica. He loved spending time on his computer and his CB radio. His "handle" was River Rat. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana R. and Jim Peters, Bunker Hill, and Deborah L. and David Geary, Logansport; a twin brother, Jim R. Germaine; two grandsons, Kevin A. Kennedy and Jonathan D. Geary; four granddaughters, Rachel A. Gulish, Amanda D. Rogers, Krista M. Kennedy and Sarah L. Daniels; and one great-grandchild, Claire M. Gulish. His parents and one sister preceded in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
