He died at 10:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2002, in his residence. Born in Winnsboro, South Carolina, on Nov. 5, 1931, he was the son of Carless and Lillian Abbott Williams. On June 19, 1965, in Logansport, he was married to Viola Kellems Williams, who survives. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was retired from Lowe Roofing. Also surviving are two sons, James D. Williams, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Robert A. Williams Jr., Indianapolis; one daughter, Melissa Lytle, Logansport; three brothers, Marvin L. Williams, Logansport, Winston Williams, Columbia, South Carolina, and Buford Williams, Winnsboro, South Carolina; three sisters, Jeanette Jordan, Meryle Nease and Richadene Broom, all of Winnsboro, South Carolina; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

He died at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, 2002, in Home Hospital, Lafayette. Born in Rensselaer, he was the son of Edward F. and Flora Bundy Spurgeon. On June 30, 1940, in Wolcott, he was married to Jennie May, who preceded in death July 18, 2000. He was a 1934 graduate of Rensselaer High School. During WWII, he served in the US Navy with the PT Boats Squadron #RON 26. From 1965 to 1978, he worked at Monon Trailer Corporation. He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Church, Rensselaer. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge, American Legion Post 81 as well as the P.T. Boaters, Inc. Surviving are four sisters, Alta Hall, Lafayette, Eileen Spurgeon, West Lafayette, Annabelle Jackson, Monon, and Elsie Cadwalader, Merrillville. One sister, Florence Higginbotham, preceded in death.
Martha Evelyn Rice

She died at Wabash Community Healthcare Center. Born in Tippecanoe County, she was the daughter of Ruben and Rose Ellis Crockett. On Feb. 5, 1931, in Lafayette, she married Lawrence M. Rice who preceded in death Feb. 16, 1967. A 1926 graduate of Stockwell High School, Martha owned and operated Monticello Sales from 1945 to 1963. After selling the Pontiac dealership, she continued to work in the automotive industry at Hubbards for 10 years. Following that, she worked for Holders Pharmacy for 5 years. Before retiring, she was employed at Miller's Department Store. She was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Business & Professional Women's association, the Delta Theta Chi sorority and the American Association of Retired People. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ellis M. and Shirley Rice, Wabash; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.

She died at 1 p.m. Friday, November 22, 2002, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Granada Hills, California, she was the daughter of John B. VanCleve, Monticello, and Margo Marguerite VanCleve Morehouse, Granada Hills, California. A senior at Twin Lakes High School, Stacie was enrolled in the health occupation career program. A very compassionate person, she loved helping others. She had planned to attend college and pursue a career in the medical field. Her love will live on with her final act of helping others as she was an organ donor. At school, she had belonged to the FCCLA, the SAFE Club, SADD and the French Club. She attended Idaville Church of God where she enjoyed helping in the nursery and was active in the youth program. She also attended Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. She was employed at WalMart. Her hobbies included gardening and cooking. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her second father, Martin J. Morehouse, Granada Hills, CA; her second mother, JoEllyn VanCleve Brockmeyer, Monticello; her boyfriend, Nick Stepp, Monticello; four sisters, Andrea Rose VanCleve, Granada Hills, California, Erica Morehouse, San Diego, CA, Amanda Morehouse and Jessica Morehouse, both of Granada Hills, CA; her paternal grandfather, Richard "Dick" VanCleve, North Hollywood, CA; paternal grandparents, Adele and John VandeHouston, Henderson, NV; maternal grandmother, Geraldine "Tiny" Brown, Northridge, CA; maternal grandparents, Melvin and Valerie Morehouse, Camarillo, CA; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Kathleen Morehouse; and her maternal grandfather, Harold Brown. She died at 1:32 p.m. Nov. 16, 2002, in White County Memorial Hospital. Born in Clinton County, she was the daughter of Otis Cleo and Ruth Strain Smith. On June 19, 1946, in Clinton County, she was married to Robert Edwin Smock, a veteran of WWI, who preceded in death Oct. 2, 1981. Eleanor was employed at Walmart in Monticello. She loved quilting, gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Robert G. & Suzanne Smock, Monticello, William D. Smock, Indianapolis, Phil & Elaine Smock, Columbia City, and Roger L. Smock, Crown Point; two brothers, Melvin Smith, Mulbury, and Lorin Smith, Frankfort; eleven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She died at 10:40 p.m. Nov. 16, 2002, in Twin Lakes Village, Monticello. Born in Logansport, she was the daughter of John Robert Krieg and Betty Jane Herron Smith. Her father survives. Janet retired from Landis Plastics in 1982, where she had worked as an inspector. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary as well as the AmVets, VFW and Moose Lodge. Surviving in addition to her father are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Curtis & Julie Maxfield, Portage, and Terry Maxfield, Monticello; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa & Richard Hunt, Monticello, Darla & Paul Goodner, Lakeworth, Florida, and Karen & Joe Rush, Monticello; one sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Russell Morgeson; Hoopeston, Illinois; seventeen grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother and infant brother. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Harry Thomas Grace

Harry Thomas Grace, 84, Logansport, died at 10:36 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002, in Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born on Jan. 25, 1918, in Cass County, he was the son of Roy and Stella Mae DeWeese Grace. On Christmas Eve of 1938, in the Calvary Presbyterian Manse at a ceremony officiated by Rev. Francis Reese, he was married to Betty Gibson. She died Dec. 14, 1998. Harry was an auto mechanic for Dillman Chevrolet for 27 years. He then worked for Burgin Motors and Logansport Community Schools as a bus mechanic before retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Cross-Wind United Methodist Church. He also belonged to Logansport's Tipton Masonic Lodge No. 33, the Logansport York Rite bodies of Chapter No. 2, Council No. 11, and St. John's Commandary, the Indianpolis Valley of Scottish Rite, and Logansport's Eagle Aerie No. 323. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Tom Brenner, and Judi and Chuck Knight, all of Logansport; two grandsons, Kevin Knight, Carmel, and Keith Knight, Logansport; one granddaughter, Kathy Dunderman, Logansport; four great-grandchildren, Abby Dunderman and Andrew Dunderman, both of Logansport, and Brandon Knight and McKenzie Knight, both of Carmel; one sister, Bonnie L. Sedam, Logansport; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, O.E. "Peno" Grace; and two sisters, Louella Corcoran and Norma L. Cripe.

She died at 2:40 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, in Monticello Healthcare Center. Born on May 7, 1914, in Madison County, she was the daughter of Ledger and Celesta Maple Adams. On Nov. 6, 1929, in Pulaski County, she was married to Cecil E. "Pete" Raderstorf, who preceded in death March 3, 1982. A homemaker, she was a member of the Idaville Church of God. She had also worked at Bryan Manufacturing of Monticello. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law, Norma J. Draper, and Betty & Raymond Ferdinand, all of Monticello; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth & Judy Raderstorf, Logansport, and Pastor Keith and Jackie Raderstorf, Monticello; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. One sister, Mae Hyatte; two brothers, Charles and Ledger Adams, one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law preceded in death.
