Lloyd C. Treece, 82, of Lafayette died at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Feb. 20, 1921, in Tazewell, Tenn., he attended Battle Ground High School and Purdue University. He married Velma J. Christopher on May 26, 1944, in Lafayette. She died Feb. 6, 1996. Mr. Treece was a pilot in the Army Air Corps during World War II who flew B-24s and B-17s. He was a route carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years, retiring in 1980 and also concurrently farmed full time. He was a charter member and deacon of Old Oxford Baptist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, farming and gardening and World War II airplanes. Surviving are four daughters, Donna Mock (husband: Wayne) of New Richmond, Ohio, Nancy Rhodes (husband: Bryan) of West Lafayette, and Carol Underhill (husband: John) and Kelly Treece, both of Lafayette; two brothers, Mannie Treece (wife: Cleo) of Lafayette and Otis Treece (wife: Naiomi) of Tazewell; and three sisters, Nola Jessee of Mulberry, Trula Skidmore (husband: Ralph) of Lafayette and Doskie Estes (husband: Ed) of California. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and six great- grandchildren, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters and a brother.

Junior C. "Bud" Young, 73, Logansport, died at 1:10 a.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, in Logansport Memorial Hospital. Born November 29, 1929, in Carroll County, he was the son of Claude and Olga May Disinger Young. He was married on January 26, 1974, in Cass County, to Barbara J. Miller, who survives. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Young served from Feb. 21, 1951 to Nov. 20, 1952 during the Korean War. He was employed at the Glover Ice Cream Company, Frankfort, as an ice cream maker and a driver for 30 years. Mr. Young was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Eagles, all of Logansport. Surviving with his wife are one son, Allen Young, Haleyville, Alabama; one daughter, Cheryl Hemmerling and her husband Peter, Rossville; two stepsons, Ernie Holley and his wife Chris, Logansport, and Michael Holley and his wife, Diana, Muncie; three sisters, Mary Ann Kidd, Lafayette, Jo-Ann Britton, Flora, and Margaret Ewing, Lafayette; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. One son and one step-great-grandson preceded in death.

Former Cass County resident James Elson Brandt, 84, Sebastian, Florida, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Integrated Health Services of Florida, Fort Pierce, Florida. Born April 3, 1919, in Cass County, he was the son of Claude and Martha Knight Brandt, who preceded in death. He was married to Betty Ayres of Flora who preceded in death Oct. 26, 1996. Mr. Brandt was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a pilot during WWII and the Korean Conflict. In 1982, Mr. Brandt retired from ConRail where he had worked as an engineer. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Shrine Club, Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion in Sebastian, Florida. Surviving are one son, Stephen A. Brandt, Colorado Springs, Colorado; one daughter, Cheryl C. Hunt, Alexandria, Virginia; one brother, Theodore C. Brandt, Ft. Wayne; one sister, Phyllis J. Whitcomb, Logansport; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Gertrude Grant and Kathleen Dingeldein preceded in death. Burial will be in Fountainhead Memorial Cemetery, Sebastian, Florida. Fisher Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Edward "Chet" Burns, 90, Monticello, died at 7:17 a.m. Thursday in White County Memorial Hospital. Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, he was the son of William H. and Fannie Wainscott Burns. On April 6, 1947, in Burnettsville, he was married to Sadie Johnson who preceded in death June 16, 1987. Mr. Burns had lived in Monticello since 1945, moving here from Logansport. He graduated from Fincheville High School in Fincheville, Kentucky in 1931. He owned and operated Burns Refrigeration for over 45 years, retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Logansport Elks Lodge. He was a former member of the Logansport Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Tippecanoe Country Club for several years. An avid golfer, he was also a diehard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing and watching basketball on TV. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Mary & Joe Crites, Monticello; one daughter-in-law, Lydia Burns, Kokomo; his grandchildren, Diana Bonebrake, Jenison, Michigan, Debbie Glassburn, Kokomo, Danny Burns, Kokomo, Tina Griffith, Logansport and Lori Landes, Walton; one sister, Mildred Wheat, Lawrencburg, Kentucky; on sister-in-law, Mona Burns, Monticello; thirteen great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald E. Burns; two sisters, Ollie Masters and Elizabeth Tingle; two brothers, Ramon and Wilmer Burns; and one great-grandson. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society or donor's choice of charity.

Floyd A. Brodeau Jr., 55, of Burnettsville Floyd A. Brodeau Jr., 55, of Burnettsville, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Home Hospital, Lafayette. He was born in Little Rock, Ark., to Floyd Sr. and Iola Brodeau. He married Sandra Phillips. She died on June 7, 1997. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a warehouse manager and retired in 1996. He was a member of VFW Post 2231. He is survived by his mother, Iola Munson of Wisconsin; a daughter, Merlena (Melvin) Gross of Burnettsville; a son, Floyd A. (Renee) Brodeau III of California; sisters, Joyce (Gary) Berghaltz of Wisconsin and Florence Jean (Richard) McKenna of California; four grandchildren; and girl friend, Dorothy Milslagle of Monticello. His brother, Donald Brodeau, is deceased. A private visitation is planned on Wednesday. Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Louise Schneeberger, 80, Logansport, died at 1:27 a.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, in Miller's Merry Manor. Born in Logansport, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Violet M. Gallaway Blacksten. In 1946, she was married to Donnell Logan who preceded in death in 1968. In 1975, she was married to Francis Schneeberger who died in 1990. Mrs. Schneeberger worked as a seamstress for eight years at the former H.W. Gossard Company. Louise was a member of the Hearth and Home Extension Homemakers Club, the V.F.W. Auxiliary Post 3790 and the American Legion Post 60 Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, crocheting and reading. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Michael H. and Vada Logan, Logansport; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianna and Michael Gilliland, Rochester; four stepsisters, Marjorie Henson, Rosanna Scott, Phyllis J. Wicker, and Martina Myers, all of Logansport; one step-brother, Karl Smith, Logansport; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several dear friends and their families, respectively Ivan & Betty Logan, Royal Center, Ruth Logan, Idaville, Vivian Lesher, Monticello,and Dorothy Weese, Logansport. She was preceded in death by one son, Marvin W. Logan; one sister, Dorothy Grandstaff; and a dear friend, Marjorie Lesher.

Celeste Lou Brock, 48, Logansport, died at 1:30 a.m. Sunday at her daughter's residence in Lafayette. Born in Logansport, she was the daughter of John and Marjorie Evans Brock. She was retired and had worked as a certified nursing assistant. Surviving are her mother, Marjorie Smith, Logansport; two sons, Christopher Hamm, Lafayette, and Corey Hamm, Lafayette; two daughters and one son-in-law, Charlene & Jason Stoner, Lafayette, and Winter Louthain, Logansport; three grandchildren, Samantha Nielander, Kokomo, Ashley Stoner, Lafayette, and Darien Burkett, Logansport; three brothers, Richard Smith, California, John Brock, Lafayette, and Brian Brock, Georgia; five sisters, Chris Holley, Lee Stanton, Cathy Mallott, Janet Smith and Kathleen Sowards, all of Logansport; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, John Brock, and her stepfather, James Smith.

Cecil Dean Evernham, Logansport, died at Memorial Hospital on April 27, 2003. Born in White County, he was the son of Clarence Cecil and Daisy Henderson Evernham. On Sept. 8, 1939, in Monticello, he was married to June Wyant who preceded in death. In 1979, he retired from Prairie Farms Dairy where he had worked for 26 years. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School and the Logansport Business College. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. A member of the First United Methodist Church, he was also a member of the Tipton Masonic Lodge, Past High Priest of the Chapter, member of Logansport York Rite, and had served as Worthy Patron in 1975, Fidelity Chapter No. 58 Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are one son, Donel Evernham, Logansport; one sister, Neva Read, Monticello; and five grandchildren. One sister, Deana Joe Seidensticker preceded in death in 1977. One sister also preceded in death.

Raymond L. Burke, 88, of Monticello Raymond L. Burke, 88, of Monticello, died at 5:56 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 12, 1914, in Indianapolis, to Frank D. and Mary E. Sharp Burke. He married Blanche Ellen Dwigans in November 1944. She died in August 1991. He was a graduate of Broad Ripple High School, Indianapolis. He was a member of Monticello United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was a member of Broad Ripple Masonic Lodge No. 643 F & AM. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis. He was a firefighter for the Indianapolis Fire Department, and retired as a lieutenant in 1974 after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Retired Firefighters’ Club of Indianapolis, and the International Firefighters Association. He enjoyed fishing, music and playing the organ. Surviving are son, Mark G. (Susan) Burke of Indianapolis; daughter, Peggy L. (Richard) Miller of Fort Thomas, Ky.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Brothers Walter Burke and Everton Burke, and sisters Margaret Willis, Virginia Pearson and Mary Payne, are deceased. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with services immediately following at 7 o’clock, with the Revs. James Copeland, Wesley Brookshire and Dick Miller officiating. Visitation will also be held Wednesday from 12:30-2 p.m. in the Peace Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis. Services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the cemetery. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Monticello United Methodist Church, or to the American Cancer Society.
