Harold W. Crimmins, 82, Logansport, died at 5:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2004, in his residence. Born in Lucerne on June 24, 1921, he was the son of Samuel P. and Addie King Crimmins. On Jan. 17, 1943, in Lucerne, he was married to June Ann Winn, who preceded in death June 2, 1978. On Dec. 9, 1978, in Logansport, he was married to Virginia (Adams) Ulery, who survives. Mr. Crimmins was the founder and former owner of Moore & Crimmins Heating & Cooling. He was a member of the Spring Creek Christian Church. Also surviving are three sons, John H. Crimmins and his wife, Linda, Lucerne, Thomas A. Crimmins and his wife, Clelia, Carmel, and Paul S. Crimmins, Wabash; three step-children, Roger Ulery and his wife, Tamera, Logansport,David Ulery and his wife, Nancy, Logansport, and Linda Sehweizer and her husband, Greg, South Bend; sixteen grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. Two sisters and one brother preceded in death. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia Foundation.
Eunas M. "June" Smith

Eunas M. "June" Smith, 91, Logansport, died at 2:32 a.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Miller's Merry Manor. Born April 21, 1912, in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Alec Melvin and Ordelia Virginia McCoy Parman. On May 10, 1930, to Samuel B. Smith, in Crawfordsville. He died on Dec. 19, 1990. A homemaker, she was a member of the Bethel Temple. She enjoyed going to church and loved her church family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and flower gardening. Surviving are four daughters, Judy Spencer, Logansport, Velma Harlen, Converse, Frieda Hamblen, Marion, and Shirley Lucas, Royal Center; four sons, William Parman, Rochester, Everett Smith, Logansport, Dean Smith, Logansport, and Jerry Smith, Lucerne; two sisters, Pauline Briney, Kewanna, and Catherine Walker, Delphi; thirty grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by eleven brothers and sisters; two sons, Samuel Glenn Smith and Ronald Keith Smith; and two grandsons, Billy Wayne Harlen and Patrick Parman. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Temple.
Donald L. Jones

Donald L. Jones, 74, of Colfax, died Monday, March 29, 2004, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Feb. 26, 1930, in Warren County, he served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Jones was a carpenter for RL Turner and was also self-employed. He attended Christ United Methodist Church, the Slicks II Car Club, and Lafayette Singles Club. He enjoyed hot rods. Surviving are two sons, Dennis Jones (wife: Sharon) of Kirklin, David Jones (wife: Lori) of Colfax; three sisters, Rosemary Miller of West Point, Patricia McCoy of West Point, Marsha Martin of West Point; and a brother, James Jones Jr. of West Point. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son, Donald L Jones Jr. and a great-grandchild. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Betty J. Smith

Betty J. Smith, 75, Logansport, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at her residence. Born June 27, 1928, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Dale and Sarah Ann Quinn Hughes. She was married to Robert H. Smith, who preceded in death February 1989. She was retired from RBM where she had worked for 40 years. She was a member of the Widowed to Widowed Group and also served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She enjoyed working in her yard. Surviving are two sons, Clarence Lawhorne Jr., Monticello, and Neal Lawhorne, Knox; two daughters, Juanita Botts, Monticello, and Anna Bower, Munster; one step-son, Bobby Joe Smith, Royal Center; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding in death were one step-son, Jack Smith; one sister, Eloise O'Conner, and one brother, Paul Hughes. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cass County Council on Aging or the Salvation Army.
Richard L. Garing

Richard L. Garing, 69, of Monticello, died at 6:34 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004, in White County Memorial Hospital. Born Aug. 26, 1934, in Williamsport, he graduated from Fowler High School in 1952. He married Catherine Leaman on April 7, 1956, in St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette. He had been a farmer in Benton County for a number of years before purchasing the Lake Terrace Motel in Monticello, which he owned until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Garing served with the National Guard from 1952 until 1968 and had been a company commander and captain of the Boswell-based 113th Medical Battalion, which is still active. He bowled in a mixed league with his wife and formerly was a member of the Moose Lodge in Monticello. He was an avid sports fan, especially Indiana University sports. He enjoyed fishing and camping. Surviving are two sons, Michael R. Garing of Lafayette and Mark L. Garing of Thorntown; a daughter, Nancy K. Larson of Alpharetta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert E. Garing of Rockville and Charles R. Garing of Monticello; and a sister, Priscilla A. Danner of Monticello; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond P. and Priscilla R. Bolduc Garing. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to a charity of the donor's choice

He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Monticello. He had been a farmer, retiring in 1994. Survivors include his wife: Mary and 2 daughters, Anita Broyles and Linda Flaherty, a Brother Charles Flaherty 8 grandchildren and 6 Great Granchildren. Preceded in Death by A son David Flahery and 2 Brothers.
James T. Duffey

Mr. Duffey passed away at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Indianapolis after a short illness. He was born in Logansport. He graduated from Burnettsville High School. He married Martha Fisher on Sep.9, 1950, in Burnettsville. She survives. Mr. Duffey served in the Navy during the Koren War for four years. After his service, he returned to Burnettsville and worked at the State Bank of Burnettsville for 42 years. He was named president of the bank in 1976, and served on that position until his retirement in 1996. He was serving as chairman of the board at the time of his death. He was a member of the Eastlawn United Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Twin Lakes School Board from 1976-84, where he acted as president for four years. He was given a Sagamore of the Wabash by former Indiana Governor Evan Bayh. Surviving with his wife are sons, John (Teresa)Duffey of West Lafayette, Mark (Teresa) Duffey of Burnettsville, Michael (Gabriela) Duffey of Nashville, TN, Patrick (Jennifer) Duffey of Monticello; and a sister, Janet Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ. Grandchildren, Katherine, George,Sam, Tyler, Allison, Gabriela, Carson and Olivia. Several Nieces and Nephews.

Mary Duncan Klasen, 88, Monticello, died at 2:09 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2004, in White County Memorial Hospital. Born February 12, 1916, in Franklin, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Elijah and Ida Belle Woodall Clark. She was married to Joseph "Joe" Klausen, who preceded in death February 23, 1986. A 1935 graduate of Logansport High School, Mrs. Klasen was a nurse. She began her nursing career at St. Joseph Hospital in Logansport, where she received her nurse's training. She later became Dr. Nolan Hibner's nurse, where she practiced for more than 50 years. Surviving are three nieces, Cathy Kilgore and her husband, Mickey, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mary Louise Contryman and her husband, Rob, Mesa, Arizona, and Patricia Geer and her husband, Tom, Dumfries, Virginia; one nephew, the Rev. Joel C. Mason, Chappaqua, New York; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and two great-great-nieces. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and the Arthritis Foundation.

Wayne R. Watts, age 88, of 250 Shenandoah Drive, Lafayette and formerly of 533 South 28th Street, died in Lafayette Home Hospital at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004. He had been a patient there since February 24. Born in Logansport, January 18, 1916, he had resided in Lafayette since 1962. He married Evelyn L. Gangloff September 27, 1936, in Logansport, and she preceded him in death on October 1, 2000. Mr. Watts was a graduate of Logansport High School. He was the former owner of Watts Brothers Ice Cream Factory in Logansport. After moving to Lafayette, Mr. Watts worked at General Refrigeration for twenty years. He was a member of the Congress Street United Methodist Church and the Tippecanoe Refrigeration Service Men's Engineering Club. He was an avid Purdue sports fan, and enjoyed reading and traveling. Surviving are three sons, Walter Watts (wife Brenda) of Lafayette; Tom Watts (wife Carolyn) of Winamac, David Watts (wife Debra) of Conifer, Colorado, and a sister Mary Pestridge of Indianapolis. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Watts was preceded in death by a daughter, Louann Kemple, July 21, 1998 and a grandson, Anthony Watts, May 12, 1999. Those desiring may contribute in memoriam to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
