Ava Maria Dinn, 40, Bloomington, died at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Bloomington Hospital.
born March 19, 1962, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Earl T. Halcomb and Mary Sue Pelfrey Welch of Columbus.
She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Morgantown and worked for M.S.P. Inc. in Bloomington.
Besides her mother, she is survived by two daughters, Casie Sue Dinn and Stacie Lucille Dinn of Nashville; and a sister, Cheryl Lynn Brewer of Scipio.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home in Columbus.
Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the funeral Monday.
Thelma N. Miller, 88
Thelma N. Miller, 88, Rush County, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002 at Kindred Hospital in Greenwood.
born July 9, 1914 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Leonard and Mary E. (Brown) Pate.
She married John F. Miller on Dec. 24, 1938 and he preceded her in death.
She was a farmer who owned and operated Miller's Grain and Livestock Farms.
She was a member of the Homer Christian Church for 50 years and a graduate of the Indiana Business School.
She is survived by one son, John R. Miller Sr. of Rush County; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burns Funeral Home in Milroy with the Rev. Don Heller officiating.
Burial will follow in Hurst Cemetery in Rush County.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Gertrude "Trudie" DeArmond
Gertrude "Trudie" DeArmond, 81, Greensburg, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
born July 8, 1921, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Basil and Dorothy (Estle) Clark.
She married William Bradford DeArmond and he preceded her in death.
A retired bookkeeper at Midwest Grain Co., she was a member of First Christian Church, past president of Tri Kappa, past president of Gold Teens Association, past secretary of the Democratic Central Committee, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Decatur County Democrat Club and the Muscatatuck Association for Retarded Citizens.
She is survived by a son, Jim DeArmond of Greensburg; four daughters, Kay Ann DeArmond of Columbus, Linda Crawly of Greensburg, Cindy Schoettmer of Westport and Jan Reisman of Carmel; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Beside her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Abe Clark.
Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home, Greensburg, with the Rev. Dan Wolford officiating.
Burial will be in South Park Cemetery.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund.
Carl L. Nickel, 88
Carl L. Nickel, 88, Rushville, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
born Sept. 11, 1914, in Rush County, he was the son of Peter and Pearl Winnie (Shinkle) Nickel.
He married Dorothy Newkirk in 1937 and she preceded him in death Feb. 19, 1994.
A farmer and factory worker, he was a member of Homer Christian Church in Homer.
He is survived by two daughters, Dessie Martin of Rushville and Kathy Riddle of Texas; two sons, Norman Nickel of Rushville and William Nickel of Shelbyville; 20 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Nickel, three brothers and one sister.
A graveside service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hurst Cemetery with the Rev. Robb Barlow officiating.
The family requests no flowers.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are by Burns Funeral Home, Milroy.
Gerald Vincent Herbert, 67
Gerald Vincent Herbert, 67, Osgood, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital.
born Aug. 13, 1936, in Millhousen, he was the son of Lawrence and Mildred (Benham) Herbert.
He married Sheryl Jones and she preceded him in death.
A Korean War veteran, he was a past employee of Thomas and Skinner of Osgood.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, AmVets of Osgood and Wm. A. Gilland American Legion Post No. 267, Osgood.
He is survived by a sister, Gertrude Jackson of Avon; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Christie Herbert and Regina Herbert; a son, Gerald Anthony Herbert; a brother, Leonard Herbert; and three sisters, Margaret Smith, Alberta Redfern and Geraldine Whalbring.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Neal's Funeral Home, Osgood.
Burial will be in Millhousen Cemetery.
Visitation is from 9-10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Wallace W. Westerman, 86
Wallace W. Westerman, 86, Batesville, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Margaret Mary Community Hospital.
born Dec. 3, 1916, in Batesville, he was the son of Walter and Clara (Narwold) Westerman.
He married Florence Dieckmann Oct. 12, 1940, and she preceded him in death Oct. 21, 1982.
He was a U.S. Army medic during World War II, a member of Batesville Lodge No. 668 F&AM; and VFW Post No. 4109, Batesville, and a lifelong member of St. John United Church of Christ.
He is survived by a daughter, Janice Prickel of Batesville, two sisters, Martha Dieckmann of Batesville and Viola Gutzwiller of Mesa, Ariz., and a grandson.
Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ or Margaret Mary Home Health Care.
