Vernon Culbertson, 96, Greensburg

Vernon Culbertson, 96, Greensburg, died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Greensburg.

born June 24, 1907 in Rush County, he was the son of Charles F. Culbertson and Blanche Troubaugh.

He was employed at the gas company in Rushville and was a member of the Rushville Eagles, Moose Lodges and Decatur County Conservation Club.

He is survived by three daughters, Ruth Lansing of Winchester, Wilma (Bob) Maple of Milan and Vera Midat of Florida; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Culbertson; a brother, Harold Culbertson and a sister, Lillian Colbert.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating. Burial will follow in East Hill Cemetery and Rushville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Bruce Ray Masters, 56, North Carolina

Bruce Ray Masters, 56, North Carolina, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Mary Gran Nursing Center.

born in 1947 in Grand Rapids, MI, he was the son of the late Ray and Marjorie Churneck Masters. He was a repairman in the construction business.

He is survived by two daughters, Darla M. Parker and Teresa M. McCoy, both of Fort Wayne; two sons, David L. Masters of Fort Wayne and Lee Masters of Roseboro; two sisters, Arleen Holstein of Dunnellon, FL and Eileen Johns of Westport; a brother, Dale Masters of Genison, MI and five grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Royal Hall Funeral Home in Clinton, NC with Rev. Paul Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in the Westport Cemetery in Westport at a later date. Visitation will be from the time of funeral until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dora B. Sloan, 76, Rushville

Dora B. Sloan, 76, Rushville, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at Flatrock River Lodge in Rushville. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Moster & Cox Funeral Home in Rushville. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Janet Rose Beesley, 56, Greensburg

Janet Rose Beesley, 56, Greensburg, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Funeral arrangements are pending at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.

Ella Margaret Broyles, 86, Batesville

Ella Margaret Broyles, 86, Batesville, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003 at The Waters of Batesville. Funeral service is at 3 p.m. Sunday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point. Visitation will be from 12-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Point Christian Church Building Fund.

Carol Ann Powers, 64, Batesville

Carol Ann Powers, 64, Batesville, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Cremation will follow after service. Visitation will be from 12-3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Margaret Mary Community Hospital Hospice.

Edna M. Fightmaster, 86, Greensburg

Edna M. Fightmaster, 86, Greensburg, died at 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at Heritage House of Greensburg.

born May 11, 1917 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of Edward Goldschmidt and Lillie Alexander Goldschmidt. She married Charles Fightmaster on May 10, 1942 in Greensburg and he preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1998.

A Salesperson/Clerk for Hooks Drug Store in Greensburg for twenty years, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg.

She is survived by a nephew, Larry Evans of Austin, TX; a niece, Linda Jackson of Columbus; a great-nephew, Duke Fightmaster of California and a friend, Bill Witkemper of Columbus.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Art Goldschmidt.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.

Doris L. McCreary, 78, Ross, OH

Doris L. McCreary, 78, Ross, OH, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at her residence. She is survived by a son, Darrow (Nita) McCreary of Greensburg. Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Friday at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, Ross, Ohio. Burial will follow in Venice Cemetery in Ross. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ross Township Life Squad or Fire Department.

George A. Beetz, 82, Morris

George A. Beetz, 82, Morris, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at his residence.

born June 7, 1921 in Cincinnati, he was the son of George and Amanda Bachman Beetz. He married Ruth Ruwe Beetz. She preceded him in death on Sept. 4, 2002.

A retired farmer, he served in the Army from 1943-46 in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Morris and a former member of the Morris Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by two daughters, Ruth Miller of Batesville and Rose Marie Foster of Westfield; five sons, Steven Beetz of Batesville, Donald Beetz of Sunman, Mark Beetz of Coral Springs, FL, Bill Beetz of Oldenburg and George Beetz of Enochsburg; two brothers, Ted Beetz of Harrison, OH and Ed Beetz of Miamitown, OH; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, a brother, Andy Beetz and two grandsons.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Morris with Msr. Bernard Schmitz officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman, with a Rosary at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Eugene Merida, 80, Batesville

Eugene Merida, 80, Batesville, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at the Veterans Home in West Lafayette. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in St. John Church Cemetery in Huntersville. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mary Louise Zollinger, 95, South Bend

Mary Louise Zollinger, 95, South Bend, died at 11:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004 at Sterling House.

born May 29, 1908, she was the daughter of Frank and Bertha Goyert Hazen. She married Claude Zollinger on Aug. 18, 1930 in Indianapolis and he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1970.

She graduated from Greensburg High School in 1926 and in 1929, graduated from the St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensburg and Christ Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis where she put in many hours of volunteer work.

She is survived by a son, Jack (Vivian) Zollinger of Gosport; a daughter, Mary Jane Horning of South Bend; a brother-in-law, Richard Wickens of La; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a cousin, Willa (Bill) Ford of Greensburg.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Boyert Hazen; two sisters, Vera Mae Wickens and Bernice Ann Dillehay; a son-in-law, John H. Horning; a great-great-grandson and a great-great-granddaughter.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation will be one hour prior to funeral service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637-3437. Kaniewski Funeral home in South Bend is in charge of arrangements.

Sr. Angeline Hagemann, OSF, 100, Oldenburg

Sr. Angeline Hagemann, OSF, 100, Oldenburg, died on Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 at the infirmary at Srs. of St. Francis Convent.

born Jan. 26, 1903 in Peoria, Ill., she was the daughter of Chris A. and Pauline Blum Hagemann.

A teacher, she entered the convent on Oct. 3, 1925 and made her final vows on July 2, 1931. She taught at St. Bonaventure’s, St. Bernard’s, Our Lady of Victory, St. Catherine’s and St. Bartholomew’s, all in Cincinnati, St. Mary’s of Middletown, Ohio, St. Joseph’s in Princeton, St. Andrew’s in Richmond, St. Anthony’s in Morris and St. Anthony’s in Streator, Ill.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bertha and Magdalen Hagemann and two brothers, Leo and Albert Hagemann.

Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the Motherhouse Chapel with Rev. Raymar Middendorf officiating. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery in Oldenburg. Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. Monday at the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Francis Convent. Weigel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
