Ellen Alice Brown, 84, Greensburg, died at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, May 9, 2004 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
born Feb. 29, 1920 in Lincoln County, KY, she was the daughter of William and Dollie (Denney) Heath. She married Jesse L. Brown on June 18, 1937 in Lincoln County, Ky. He preceded her in death.
born and raised in Kentucky, she moved to the Westport area in 1955 and has been a resident of the Heritage House Nursing Home for the past several years. She was a member of the Mt. Aerie Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Arnie L. Brown of Westport; daughters, Janett Hardebeck of Westport and Shirley Bundren of Indianapolis; sisters, Lena Morrell of Texas and Vergie Vanderbur of Madison; brothers, Leo Heath of Connersville and Kelly Heath of Greensburg; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, William Brown; brothers, Donald, Ed and Henry Heath and a sister, Nellie Ball.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Decatur County through the funeral home.
Howard W. Stainbrook, 87, Butlersville
Howard W. Stainbrook, 87, Butlersville, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004 in Jennings County as a result of a tractor accident.
born Sept. 12, 1916 in Morgan County, he was the son of Elmer and Amelia Olive (Wright) Stainbrook. He married Norma Susan Perry in Shelbyville on July 11, 1944. She preceded him in death in 1998. He then married Irene May Homan in Butlersville on May 12, 2001. She survives.
Raised in Shelby County, he had been a Jennings County resident since 1979. He retired from GE in Shelbyville in 1978 after 17 years of service. He was also a farmer. He attended the Rodney Wesleyan Church and enjoyed coon hunting, gardening, horseshoe pitching, fishing, bluegrass music and cutting wood. He was also a veteran of World War II having served with the Army.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, David Stainbrook of Austin, Daniel Stainbrook of Westport and Philip Stainbrook of North Vernon; a stepson, Gary Homan of Madison, Tenn.; three daughters, Naomi Catt of Shelbyville, Ruth Shawhan of Mooresville and Lois Stainbrook of Butlerville; stepdaughters Beverly Freeman of Salida, Colo. and Fonda Wheeler of Madison, Tenn.; a granddaughter who he raised, Charity Clarkson of North Vernon; a sister, Naomi Gambrel of Crothersville; a brother, Paul Stainbrook of Florida; 14 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Samuel John Stainbrook; a sister, Edith Weber; a brother, Thurman Stainbrook and a granddaughter, Delana Jill Stainbrook.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral homewith Rev. Michael Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rockcreek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
Julie A. (Madden) Colson, 37, Greensburg
Julie A. (Madden) Colson, 37, Greensburg, died at 9:53 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2004 at her residence.
born Nov. 22, 1966 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of Ronald L. Madden of Greensburg and Frances (Swango) Madden of Burney. She married Kevin Colson on Sept. 11, 1999. He survives.
She worked as a teller for Fifth Third Bank and had previously worked at Gecom. She was also a member of the Burney Baptist Church of Burney and was a 1985 graduate of Greensburg High School.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two step sons, Nicholas and Michael Colson, both of Greensburg; a step daughter, Emily Colson of Greensburg; a brother, John (Stacie) Madden of Brownstown; two sisters, Mrs. Jerry (Jeanette) Dwiggins and Joyce Burton, both of Greensburg; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller of Corydon and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Madden, Jr. and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Mose Swango.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Rand Hooton officiating. Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in Rossburg. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Vera Alene Mann, 90, Greensburg
Vera Alene Mann, 90, Greensburg, died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at her residence in Greensburg.
born Sept. 10, 1913 in Gaston, she was the daughter of Calvin and Mayne Ethel (Stephenson) Poindexter.
Vera was a homemaker. She was a former employee of Decatur County Memorial Hospital. She had worked at PPG in Shelbyville and was a housekeeper for several families in Greensburg. She attended the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church.
She was one of the three original women that started the Monday Night Euchre Club at the Senior Citizens Center. She also played in the Senior Citizens Band.
She was married to Jack Norman Mann on Oct. 20, 1931. He preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1975.
She is survived by sons Joseph (Audrey) Mann, Santa Fe Springs, Calif., Jerry Lee (Karol) Mann, Greensburg, Calvin “Butch” (Donna) Mann, Greensburg; daughters, Mary Lou (Robert) Karmon, Gales Ferry, Conn, Camilla Sue (Robert) Oathout, Holiday, Fla., Lillian June (Howard “Buddy”) Ryle, Greensburg; 20 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral services will 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Bryan Trotter officiating.
Internment will be held in the Miller Cemetery in Middletown, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice.

Kenneth C. “Shorty” Craige, 92, Shelbyville, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Heritage Manor in Shelbyville. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. James (Chloe) Mount of Waldron. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. services Carmony-Ewing Harrison St. Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the local service organization. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Lodge Rehab Fund in care of the funeral home.
Mark R. Heidlage, Sr., 48, Connersville
Mark R. Heidlage, Sr., 48, Connersville, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at his residence.
born Sept. 21, 1955 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Robert L. and Marita Bruns Heidlage. He married Carole Anne Carter on Dec. 23, 1998 in Connersville. She survives.
A 1973 graduate of Connersville High School, he had been a resident in Connersville for most of his life and was employed as a CNC Programmer for 20 years and later as a 3D Designer at various Tool and Die Shops in the area. He was a member of St. Gabriel Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars and spending time with his family. He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1974-78.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his father; a daughter, Marci (Chuck) Logan; two sons, Bob (Misti) Heidlage and Josh Heidlage, both of Connersville; three step children, Noah, Travis and Emily Sexton, all of Connersville; four grandchildren, Devyn and Kyra Heidlage and Caitlyn and Dylan Logan; three brothers, Ted Heidlage of Connersville, John (Debbie) Heidlage of Okeana, Ohio and Joel (Patty) Heidlage in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Turkey.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marita Heidlage and a son, Mark R. Heidlage, Jr.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Miller, Moster, Robbins Funeral Home in Connersville.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Gabriel Church. Burial with military rites conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council will follow in Dale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mark R. Heidlage, Sr. Memorial Fund at the funeral home.

Funeral service is at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary, 12801 West 44th Avenue in Wheat Ridge, Col. Burial will follow win Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2255 So. Onieda St., Denver, Col. 80224 or the Hospice of the donor’s choice.

Robert Lewis Wilder, 38, Greensburg, died 7:52 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2004 in Greensburg.
born July 23, 1965 in Greensburg, he was the son of Hobert and Dorothy Mae (Peck) Wilder.
A lifelong resident of Decatur County, he was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
He is survived by a son, Hunter Wilder of Greensburg; a daughter, Cheyanne Wilder of Hartsville; a step daughter, Cassandra Durham of Hartsville; four sisters, Edith Miller and Jean Graue, both of Greensburg, Mary “Frankie” Burchfield of Westport and Genida White of Springfield, Missouri and four brothers, David Wilder of Owasso, Mich., Larry Wilder of Las Vegas, Nev., John Wilder of St. Augustine, Fl. and Roger Wilder of Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home Funeral service is 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts. Memorials may be made to the family through the funeral home.
