Evelyn Mae Cooley Marler
Services for Evelyn Mae Cooley Marler, 80, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
She died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Logansport Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 5, 1928, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Joseph T. and Laura L. Mills Cooley. She was married Jan. 7, 1946, in Logansport to Cecil Thomas Marler, who preceded in death Aug. 22, 1995.
Evelyn retired from the Logansport State Hospital in 1988.
She was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 3790.
Surviving are daughters, Jennifer L. Johnston and husband, Bill, Peru, and Patti S. Thomas and husband, Jim, Twelve Mile; a son, Thomas J. Marler and wife, Natalie, Monticello; 13 grandchildren, Becky Widner, Stephanie Marbach, Alicia Hinshaw and husband, Josh, Jon Doughty and wife, Tricia, Joel Thomas and wife, Summer, Cara Mae Hettinger, Paige Thomas, Allen Thomas and wife, Kristen, Bryan Thomas and wife, Crystal, James Thomas Jr. and fiancé, Heather, Levi Marler, Ethan Marler and Calah Marler; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Cooley, and one sister, Virginia Rhody.
The Rev. William Art Maloney and Pastor Tom Robbins will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Bruce Allen DeWitt
Memorial services for Bruce Allen DeWitt, 40, Logansport, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, in Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 20, 1968, in Logansport, he was the son of Gilbert and Judith Geisler DeWitt.
Bruce enjoyed reading and was a big Cubs and Bears fan.
Surviving are his parents, Gilbert and Judy DeWitt, Logansport; sister, Sue Walker, Logansport; brothers, Brian DeWitt and wife, Kathy, Bradley DeWitt, and Derrick DeWitt, all of Logansport; half-sister, Keneta Pearson, Leesburg, Fla.; three nieces; and four nephews.
The Rev. Jeff Ropp will officiate. Burial will be in Idaville Cemetery, Idaville.
Friends may call one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.

Gary L. Alberts
DELPHI - Family graveside services for Gary L. Alberts, 69, Delphi, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Masonic Cemetery in Delphi.
He died at 2:40 a.m. Thursday in his residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Carroll County Cancer Society. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
John Thomas Lakey
ROCHESTER - John Thomas Lakey, 82, Rochester, and longtime North Carolina resident, passed away at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, in Life Care Center of Rochester.
No services or visitation will be observed.
Burial will take place at a later date at Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, N.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sanctuary of Praise or the Omega Church.

Deane J. Peterson
KEWANNA - Services for Deane J. Peterson, 83, Lake Bruce, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, 123 E. Main St., Kewanna.
He passed away at 5:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, in his residence.
Born Oct. 8, 1925, in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Justice J. and Ruth Bitterling Peterson. On June 30, 1948, he married Anajean Young, who survives.
Deane was a 1944 Monterey High School graduate and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was also an avid deer hunter.
He retired in 1989 from General Transfer Co. in Rochester.
Also surviving are his sons, Don L. Peterson and his wife, Jovy, Kewanna, and Dwight R. Peterson and his wife, Venita, Winamac; daughter, Vivian A. Peterson, Kewanna; sister, Eileen Adams, Chicago; nine grandchildren, Daniel J. Peterson, James Peterson, Rendall Lawson, Joshua Lawson, Kori Peterson, Blayne Peterson, Jenny Peterson, Joemer Peterson and JeeAnne Peterson; and one great-grandchild, Quintin Peterson.
Deane was preceded in death by one brother, Verl Peterson; and one sister, Fern Mitchell.
Rev. Steven McPeek will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will be conducted at Moon Cemetery, Kewanna.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and one hour prior to the time of service on Tuesday.

Debra Gail Rader
NORMAN, Okla. - Services for Debra Gail Rader, 51, Del City, Okla., will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Sooner Road Church of God in Midwest City.
She died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Del City, Okla., after a long and brave battle with cancer. She never let the pain show or slow her down.
Born Sept. 6, 1957, in Kokomo, Ind., she was the daughter of Nadine Lewis and Andrew Starr.
Debbie never met a stranger anywhere she went. She was compassionate, loving and loved life. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and wife. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are her companion, Rod Clouse; two daughters, Christy Fuller and husband, Robert, Pauls Valley, and Ashley Rader, Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Linda Stranahan and husband, Dan, Peru, and Diann Biddle and Mike Higgins, Logansport; three grandchildren, Austin Ingram, Korie Fuller and Nikki Rader; the father of her children, Jerry Rader; and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins as well as her loving extended Clouse family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Rader.

Margaret Alice Morehouse Cooper
Margaret Alice Morehouse Cooper, 74, Logansport died at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in Chase Center in Logansport.
Born Oct. 14, 1933, in Elkhart County, she was the daughter of John Dewitt and Mary Edna (Slabaugh) Morehouse.
A 1951 graduate of New Paris High School, Margaret also attended Memorial School of Nursing in South Bend.
Margaret was a member of Bethany Church of the Brethren in New Paris. She enjoyed crafts and sewing.
Survivors include four children, Steven B. Cooper, Mishawaka; Pamela L. Kish, and her husband, Jonathan, Osceola; Janine E. Meersman, and her husband, Kevin, South Bend; Douglas C. Cooper of Elkhart; grandchildren, Benjamin A. Kish, and his wife, Brittany, Osceola; Kari L. Meersman, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Nicolas R. Meersman, South Bend; brother, Dain W. Morehouse, and his wife, Janay, Goshen; one brother-in-law, Eldon Sorensen, Milford; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and sister, Nola Jean Sorensen, preceded in death.
There will be a private burial. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cass County Mental Health Association, or any favorite hospice program in your community.

Ricky Lee Peters
Services for Ricky Lee Peters, 51, Logansport, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Gundrum Funeral Home.
He died at 9:42 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
Born Oct. 23, 1956, in Logansport, he was the son of Robert Lewis Peters and Elizabeth M. Green.
He was married Sept. 10, 2005, in Logansport, to Pam Hines, who survives.
Ricky was a former Iron Worker for Local No. 379 of Lafayette. Most recently, he was trucking with his wife.
He attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
Ricky was also a member of the Logansport Elks Lodge No. 66, Patriot Guard Riders, Iron Workers Union and was involved in fund raising events, charities and benefits. He was also a member of ABATE of Indiana.
Also surviving are daughters, Stacey Peters, New York; Jennifer Peters, Kentucky; Ashley Peters, Kentucky; sisters, Sherri L. Young, Logansport; Drenda Yocum, Royal Center; Rashelle Ponchaud and her husband, Gary, Cascade, Wis.; Pamela Johnson, Wis.; brothers, Wayne Fry and his wife, Patti, Royal Center; Michael Fry, Logansport; granddaughter Randi, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Step-mother, Claudette M. Peters, preceded in death.
Dr. Horace Smith will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
An Elks service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Jeanne E. Forkner
KOKOMO - A celebration of life for Jeanne E. Forkner, 59, Kokomo, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Oakbrook Community Church.
She died unexpectedly Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in St. Joseph Hospital.
Born April 11, 1948, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Jack and Kathleen (Simmons) Forkner.
Jeanne attended School No. 54, Arsenal Technical High School and Ball State University where she received her bachelors and masters degrees. She later earned her LCSW designation from Indiana University.
She began her career as a teacher for the Indianapolis Public School System. After moving to Kokomo, she formed the faith-based Christian Counseling Outreach 25 years ago, serving the needs of many Christian individuals and families in crisis.
Jeannie, as a therapist and friend, saw in others what they hadn’t seen in themselves. She was a teacher, caregiver and counselor to everyone. She never said “no” to her clients and friends who needed her at anytime of the day or night. As a result of her work, Jeanne was selected 2005 Social Worker for Region Four and Social Worker of the Year in 2005 for the state of Indiana.
Jeanne was affiliated with the NASW and belonged to the Tech Alumni Association, Ball State Alumni Association and I.U. Alumni Association.
Jeanne conducted a bible study at her home and office for many years. She was part of the founding group for Oakbrook Community Church, where she was an active member. Jeanne and friends organized and performed “Celebrating Love,” a Christmas program for the community. She never turned away anyone in need, having handled many patients without insurance or the ability to pay.
As an extension of Christian Counseling Outreach, Jeanne organized the non-profit organization CCO Ministries that sponsored the Black Stallion Literacy Program for Howard County children and supplied other charitable causes.
Jeanne lives on in the spiritual sense in those whom she touched, and her faith in God was shown through her tenderness, guidance, conversation and actions. To be a spokesman for Jesus Christ was her goal, a goal she met every day of her life.
Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Susan Forkner Lebo and Charles E. Lebo; and her uncle Bryce Jack Simmons.
Pastor Mark Malin will officiate the services.
Friends may call at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A second calling and service will be held at Washington Park East Community Life Center in Indianapolis on Saturday. For further information, go to www.indystar.com.

Frank Lee Wertz
FLORA - Services for Frank Lee Wertz, 60, of Kokomo, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Baker Funeral Home.
He died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2007. in his residence.
Born Jan. 1, 1947, in Flora, he was the son of William and Bonnie K. Sheagley Wertz. He was married July 1, 1967, in Flora, to Delores Coles, who survives. The couple was divorced.
A hair stylist in Kokomo for 35 years, Mr. Wertz graduated from the Kokomo Business College and House of James Beauty School in Indianapolis. He was a member of the former Moose Lodge in Kokomo and enjoyed buying and collecting antiques. He also was an avid bingo player.
Surviving are two sons, Eric Wertz, presently serving in the U.S. Navy, and his wife, Carla, Kokomo; and Marc Wertz, Kokomo; a half sister, Kathy Whitehead and her husband, Lowell and family, Scottsburg; and three stepgrandchildren, Kyleigh, Skyler and Trista.
One brother, John Michael, and one sister, Mina Ann, preceded in death.
Burial will be in Ball Hill Cemetery, Cutler.

Terry A. Mayfield
NOBLESVILLE - Services for Terry A. Mayfield, 61, Noblesville, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Randall & Roberts Funeral Home.
He died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, in Riverview Hospital, Noblesville.
Born Dec. 26, 1946, in Memphis, Tenn., he was the son of Dr. E.C. and Farris Wiggins Mayfield.
A 1964 graduate of Logansport High School, Terry had worked the last two and a half years for Industrial Dielectrics. Before that, he had worked at the Carmel Post Office for 16 years.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in Vietnam, and he enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Surviving are his wife, Paula Lawson Mayfield, Noblesville; daughters, Brittany Mayfield, Noblesville, and Jessica Jones and husband, Chris, California; son, Matthew Collins, Noblesville; his parents, Dr. E.C. and Farris Wiggins Mayfield, Columbus; brothers, Larry Mayfield and wife, Linda, Columbus, and Danny Mayfield and wife, Jill, Logansport; sister, Cindy Payne, Florida; mother-in-law, June Lawson, Noblesville; father-in-law, Denver Lawson and wife, Deloris, Noblesville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Stanley R. Sutton will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

He died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 in Zionsville Meadows Nursing Home, Zionsville.
Rev. Keith Raderstorf, Monticello United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery in rural Monon.
