Helen M. Mobley, 93, Columbus
Helen M. Mobley, 93, Columbus, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus.
born Dec. 2, 1910 in Columbus, she was the daughter of David Behrman and Mary Brown Behrman Scott. She married Wayne Mobley in Columbus on Oct. 23, 1930. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 1986.
A homemaker, she was a member of the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, 60-year member of Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Her grandfather Edward Brown was instrumental in bringing the Catholic Church to Columbus.
She is survived by two sons, Daniel Mobley of Iowa City, Iowa and David (Becky) Mobley of Greensburg; a daughter, Louise Hollinsworth of Palos Hills, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Fischer and a half-brother, Bob Murphy.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. today in Myers Funeral Service, Hathaway-Myers Chapel in Columbus and from 9-9:45 a.m. Friday preceding services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Joseph N. McNally officiating. Entombment will follow in Garland Brook Mausoleum in Columbus.
Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew Catholic Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana.

James Roy Nicklas, 73, Abilene, TX, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at his residence. Before moving to Abilene, he was an Elder in Greensburg. He is survived by a mother-in-law, Cecile Manter and nine grandchildren. Funeral service is at 3 p.m. Friday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Sarah Neva Smith, 91, Sardinia, died at 1:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at the Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Greensburg.
born Aug. 22, 1912 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Frederick Michael and Lucy Jane (Williams) Humpert. She married John Preston Smith on May 31, 1930 in New Castle, KY. He preceded her in death in 1979.
A Decatur County resident since 1914 and a Sardinia resident since 1976, she was a member of the Sardinia Baptist Church and the Missionary Circle of the church.
She is survived by daughters, Patricia Jane Cox of Florrisant, Mo., Wilma May Hornung of Morristown and Donita Rose Skinner of Columbus; nine grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, David Eugene Smith, Sr.; brothers James Elwin Humpert, William Frederick Humpert and Joseph Wayne Humpert; a sister, Myrtle Christine Pflanzer and four grandchildren, Payton, Eric and Michelle Callahan and Mickey Ross.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home Burial will follow in the Westport Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Westport Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday in the Condo & Son Funeral Home with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery.
Harold E. Zimmerman, 78, Sunman
Harold E. Zimmerman, 78, Sunman, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Veterans Hospital in Cincinnati.
born Dec. 12, 1925 in Pontiac, Ill., he was the son of Harry and Ferne Bricker Zimmerman. He married Rosemary Lipps on Sept. 14, 1948 in Yorkville She survives.
A retired insurance agent serving as District manager for American Family Insurance Company for 35 years and owning Zimmerman Insurance Agency for five years, he was an army veteran serving during W.W.II. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church - Hubbells Corner, Sunman Lodge No. 590 - F&AM;, Southeastern Indiana Shrine Club, 59-year member of Kenneth L. Diver Post No. 337 - American Legion, served on the Suman-Dearborn School District Board and on the Holding Company for the construction of buildings at East Central, Sunman and Bright, served on the board of Directors of Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville, was on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and also supported and was active in many community activities.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna (Dale) Bergman of Sunman; three sons, Gary (Linda) Zimmerman and Jeff (Beverley) Zimmerman of Greensburg and Jim Zimmerman of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Dorothy Diefenbach of Noblesville; 11 grandchildren, Jill Harbison, Christy, Emily, Kenton, Lindsey, Andy and Stephanie Zimmerman, Erik and Kyle Bergman, Bridgett Clark and Tiffany Cupp.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Jennifer Eckman and a brother-in-law, Paul Diefenbach.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church - Hubbells Corner with Dr. Daniel Leigh Nugent officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Hubbells Corner with military honors by Kenneth L. Diver Post No. 337 - American Legion of Sunman. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Cook Funeral Home, 107 Vine St. in Sunman and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Harold Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship Fund at East Central High School.
Patricia J. Scudder, 53, Greensburg
Patricia J. Scudder, 53, Greensburg, died Tuesday at her residence in Greensburg.
born April 11, 1951, in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph and Jean (Girolami) Motta. Her mother survives and her father preceded her in death.
Scudder was an office manager at the Fifth Third Bank in Greensburg, where she had worked since 1988. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the St. Lawrence Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabelle.
She was married to Robert W. Scudder on Jan. 27, 1973. He survives.
Besides her mother and husband, she is also survived by a son, Brian Scudder, and a daughter, Michelle Scudder, both of Greensburg; brothers, Robert Motta, Albany, NY, Charles Motta, East Greenbush, NY; a sister, Katherine (Paul) Feeley, Troy, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Aside from her father, she was also preceded in death by one son, Matthew Ryan Scudder.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.
Visitation will then be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the W.J. Lyons Funeral Home, Inc., 1700 Washington Ave., Rensselaer, NY.
A funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Rensselaer.
Internment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenmont, NY.
Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice, the American Cancer Society or the Relay for Life.
The Fifth Third Bank in Greensburg will be closing at 3 p.m. Thursday in memory of Patricia.
Mary L. Jewell, 91, Columbus
Mary L. Jewell, 91, Columbus, died at 4 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
born Oct. 10, 1912 in Hope, she was the daughter of Charles Wesley Kiefer and of whom preceded her in death.
She graduated from Home High School and Indiana State Teacher’s College. She taught at Dover Elementary, Burnsville Elementary, Jackson Township, Newbern, Petersville and Rockcreek, from whence she retired. She had several positions in the Alert United Methodist Church and lived in the Alert community for more than 50 years. She was also a member of Gideon’s Auxiliary. She also loved to sew.
She married Paul S. Jewell on March 11, 1944. He survives.
She is also survived by a son, John P. Jewell, Port Charlotte, Fla.; daughters, Sue Ann Walters, Sterling Heights, Mich., and Bonnie K. Wilcoxson, Greensburg, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and one step-grandson.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Lester, Earl, John and Albert Kiefer and by a sister, Grace Trotter, Columbus.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until services Thursday at the Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Connie Barr officiating.
A private burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at the Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Gideons International or Oriental Missionary Society International.

Laura. B. Hutson, 80, Connersville, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the Lincoln Center in East Connersville.
born Aug. 18, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Albert Baker and the late Iva Hammons. She married Rosco Hutson Dec. 24, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1961.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Laurel Nazarene Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
