Marjorie E. Firsich, 83, Greensburg
Marjorie E. Firsich, 83, Greensburg, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at the IOOF Home in Greensburg.
born on July 17, 1920 in Greensburg, she was the daughter Clyde L. and Anna Jane (Van Sickle) Creech. She married Morris Miller. He preceded her in death. She then married Robert Firsich. He preceded her in death in 1976.
Marjorie and her husband, Robert, owned the Cabin Club Restaurant, Grill Cafe and later built the Four Seasons Restaurant after a fire destroyed the Cabin Club.
She is survived by daughters Judith Lee (David) Meneely of Bradenton, Fla., and Janice Eileen (Ben) Haskamp of Greensburg; sisters Barbara Fortner of Greensburg, Maxine Ogg of Okeana, OH, Mary Ellen Miller and Esther Johnson, both of Cut Bank, Mont. and several grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded by brothers James, Richard, George, Benjamin and Loyd Lewis Creech and sisters Rosemund Hull, Mabel McCloud, Jean Newlin and Stella Robeson.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A Rosary service will take place at 7:30 p.m.. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice.
Rev. Vernon Slone, 77, Prestonsburg, KY
Rev. Vernon Slone, 77, Prestonsburg, KY, died Sunday, April 11, 2004 at his residence.
born Dec. 6, 1926 in Blue River, KY, he was the son of Charlie and Osie Slone. He married Alice Lavonne “Bonnie” (Pitts) Slone. She survives.
Founder and pastor Emeritus of the Middle Creek Baptist Church at Blue River, prior to his ministry, he worked at Chrysler Corp. in Minneapolis, was a Navy Veteran and was also a tax preparer. He was saved in 1958 in Indianapolis. On Easter morning in 1971, the Lord spoke to his heart that he should go to the hills of Kentucky to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Vernon surrendered to that call. The Middle Creek Baptist Church was established in June 1971. He resigned as pastor in Sept. 2003 because of illness. His greatest joy was telling people to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. The Lord called Vernon to be with Him in Heaven on Easter morning, 33 years later. Vernon served his country in the Navy at the end of World War II. He was discharged in 1946. He served on the U.S.S. Bouganville and the U.S.S. Texas.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Charles Vernon Slone of Carmel, Michael Slone of New Palestine and David Slone of Fishers; step-sons, Duane Bottom of Deltona, Fla., Bruce Bottom of Mt. Carmel, Ill. and Marlin Bottom of Grapevine, Texas; brothers, Irvin, Columbus and Joe Ed Slone, all of Blue River and Billy Henry Slone of Indianapolis; sisters, Clara Slone of Blue River, Mary Louise Nelson of Prestonsburg and Charlene Jones of Duluth, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Slone; sisters, Ann Delong and Beatrice Slone and a granddaughter, Jena Slone.
Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Middle Creek Baptist Church in Blue River, KY with Rev. Eugene Cook and Rev. Don Crisp officiating. There will also be a service at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Zion Methodist Church in Greensburg with Revs. Charlie Kittrell, Eugene Cook and Dennis Hadler officiating. Burial will be in the family cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation was. Monday at Middle Creek Baptist Church in Blue River, and Thursday at noon at the Zion Methodist Church in Greensburg.
Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home is in charge of local funeral arrangements.
John W. McClure, 69, Cicero
John W. McClure, 69, Cicero, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2004.
born Nov. 27, 1934 in Decatur County, he was the son of the late Amos A. and Lillian E. (Stephens) McClure.
He was a chief metrologist, standard locknut and lock washers and also served in the Navy.
He is survived by daughters Kimberly A. Estes of Cicero and Cynthia R. Harlow of Florida; sons Ben S. and Ryan M. McClure, both of Noblesville; sisters, Leta (Landon) Herbert of Milroy and Elanda (Robert) Bruner of Fort Wayne; brothers Lester McClure of Shelbyville and Niles N. McClure of Connersville; six grandchildren and a great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Noble McClure and a sisters, Thea Huskins.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Burns Funeral Home in Milroy. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursdaya t the funeral home, Rev. Ron Simbro officiating. Burial will follow at East Brook Cemetery in Milroy.
Willa A. Williams, 83, Greensburg
Willa A. Williams, 83, Greensburg, died at 2:35 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2004 at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Greensburg.
born July 10, 1920 in Greensburg, she was the daughter of George Lawson and Zola Brown. She married Homer Williams on Oct. 24, 1953 in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death in 1989.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Ralph (Ruth Ann) Williams of Spiceland and a close family friend, Robert Baxter.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg, Dr. Lee C. Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Greensburg Veterinary Clinic on Co. Rd. 300 N. in Greensburg.
Timothy J. Orme, 47, of Rushville
Timothy J. Orme, 47, of Rushville, died Friday night, April 10, 2004 at 9:40 as the result of a vehicle rollover.
Timothy was born July 16, 1956, in Rushville, the son of Billy J. Orme and Clara Jo (Woods) Orme.
Timothy served in the Army. He was a member of Rushville Eagles No. 1307 and Rushville American Legion No. 150. He had worked most recently as a laborer at STI in Greensburg.
Timothy is survived by daughters Natacia K. Orme and Tyla Jo Orme; sisters Monna Jo (David) Miller, Sally Jane (John) Collyer, and Myra Jean (Doug Bowles), all of Rushville and sister Kelly (Kevin) Disbro of Milroy.
Visitation is today, 4-8 p.m., in the Moster and Cox Mortuary, Rushville. Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday in the mortuary, Pastor Phil Mitchell officiating, Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to any charity.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Chapel in North Vernon, where a prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery at Four Corners. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or the Agnes Cardinal Memorial, Franklin United Methodist Community Staff, 1070 W. Jefferson St. in Franklin.

born Oct. 1, 1940 in Vevay, Ind., he was the son of Charles and Stella Noel Hazelgrove. He married Susie Collins on April 7, 1982 in Sneedville, Tenn.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Steven Gibson officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Milford Cemetery in Milford, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the family through the funeral home.
