Thelma F. Jacobs, 94, Lebanon, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Lebanon.
born Oct. 15, 1909 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Charles and Lillian Mae (Wooton) Roth. She married Jerome Jacobs on Nov. 12, 1932. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1983.
A homemaker, she was a bookkeeper and had worked as a Western Union operator. She also had worked at Taylor’s Rexall Drug Store in Punta Gorda, FL. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, FL. She was also a member of the BPW, Catholic Ladies Gild, American Legion Gold Star Mothers, Democratic Women’s Club, NCCW and the Charlotte County Square Dancers.
She is survived by three sons, Jerome Jacob, Jr. of Millhousen, Daniel Jacobs of Greenfield and James Jacobs of Nashville, TN; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a son, John Charles Jacobs; a brother, Charles Roth and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. services Saturday at Porter-Oliger Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Tony Levi officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.
V. Madge (Bokelman) Schoentrup, 79, Columbus
V. Madge (Bokelman) Schoentrup, 79, Columbus (formerly of Greensburg), died at 2:38 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the Hospice House of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
born Nov. 13, 1924 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Arthur Vincent Bokelman and Mildred Allean Brown Bokelman. She married Irvin L. Schoentrup on April 28, 1945 in Greensburg. He preceded her in death in 2002.
A homemaker and school crossing guard for 16 years in Columbus, she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg and a 1942 graduate of Clarksburg High School.
She is survived by daughters Nancy (Russell) Wilhoit of Greensburg, Jodi (John) Owen of Columbus and Martha (Larry) Tustison of Greenwood; a brother, Arnold Lee “Ink” Bokelman of Greensburg; three grandchildren and three granddaughters.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, William C. “Bill” Bokelman; a sister, Betty J. Davis and a granddaughter, Andrea Huber.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will take place 7:30 p.m.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Greensburg. Memorials may be made to the Hospice House of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
Walter Arnie Siebert, 71, Batesville
Walter Arnie Siebert, 71, Batesville, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow in St. Paul Church Cemetery with military graveside rights. Visitation will be from 5-8 Sunday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Church Cemetery or the American Heart Association.
Margaret Gorbett, 82, Greensburg
Margaret Gorbett, 82, Greensburg, died at 8:35 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
born June 11, 1921 in Decatur County, she was the daughter of John and Alta (Tucker) Hockersmith. She married Cecil Gorbett on Aug. 30, 1941 in Jackson Township. He survives.
A graduate of Jackson Township High School in 1939, she was a lifelong resident of Decatur County, and was a member of the Mt. Aerie Baptist Church since 1933. She held several offices in the church, in the Women’s Missionary Society and the Decatur County Baptist Missionary Women. She was co-treasurer for Mt. Aerie Baptist Church and the Southeastern Indiana Baptist Youth Camp for 14 years.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Charles Gorbett of Cincinnati and Dallas Gorbett of Indianapolis; a brother, Robert Hockersmith of Hope; two granddaughters, Mrs. James (Meri) Drago of Hattiesburg, Miss. and Sabrina Gorbett of Athens, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Marie Drago, both of Hattiesburg, Miss. and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Delgar Hockersmith and a sister, Inez Colsher.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. services Thursday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Steve Malone officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Aerie Baptist Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Southeastern Indiana Baptist Youth Camp through the funeral home.

Mildred K. Schene, 82, Batesville, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13 at St. Louis Church in Batesville. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. where a Rosary service will take place at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund or to the Kelly Munchel Scholarship Fund.

Mary Olive Williams, 87, New Point, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Treyburn Rehab and Nursing Home in Durham, North Carolina.
born April 22, 1916 in New Point, she was the daughter of Virgil and Selma (Starks) Minning. She married Charles G. Williams on Sept. 28, 1936 in Indianapolis and he survives.
A member of New Point Christian Church, she was a member of the Loveland Ohio Order Eastern Star and was also a homemaker.
Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Shirley (Bobby) Maines of Durham; a son, Gordon (Carol) Williams of London, OH; a sister, June Eineman of Indianapolis; a brother, Donald R. Minning of New Point; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles V. Williams; two brothers, Ralph “Bud” Minning and John Louis Minning and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at New Point Christian Church with Pastor Mark Vice officiating. Burial will follow in New Point at the Rossburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville and also from 10-10:30 a.m. at the church on Saturday.
Memorials may be made to the New Point Christian Church Building Fund.

Opal F. Oliphant, 72, Greensburg, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg.
born Feb. 2, 1932 in Flemington, W. Va., she was the daughter of Rollie Clark and Gladys Lemon Clark. She married Thomas B. Oliphant who preceded her in death on May 16, 1990.
She was a member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Lewis B. Oliphant of Greensburg; a daughter, Robin Gothburgh of Greensburg; three brothers, James Clark of Milan and Robert A. Clark and Paul M. Clark, both of Greensburg; two sisters, Evelyn Linger and Jackie Wamsley, both of Greensburg and four grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be held at Hebron Cemetery in Adams. There will be no public visitation. Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ruth E. Dudley, 66, Greensburg, died at 1:05 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at her residence in Greensburg.
born Sept. 2, 1937 in Leavenworth, she was the daughter of George Strother and Lura Parker. She married Donald F. Dudley on Dec. 3, 1955 at Fairchild AFB in Washington and he survives.
A homemaker, she was a member of New Point Christian Church and Zion United Methodist Woman’s Group. She was raised and graduated from the Soldiers and Sailors Children’s Home in Knightstown.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Donald F. (Laura) Dudley, Jr. of St. Paul, and Gregory and Andrew Dudley, both of Greensburg; a daughter, Sherle Cherry of Versailles; a brother, Lovell Parker; a sister, Alice Gray of Antwerp, Ohio; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Frank Strother and a sister, Evelyn Lopez.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Alfred Thornton officiating. Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Decatur County.

Ethel I. Cain, 83, Omaha, Nebraska, died at 4:01 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Nebraska Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She is survived by a daughter, Connie (Donald) Polston of Greensburg. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church, 60th and Walnut in Omaha. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation was this morning in the church.
