Fred E. Fisher, Jr., 74, Greensburg, died at 10:42 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.
born Nov. 18, 1929 in Decatur County, he was the son of Fred E. Fisher, Sr. and Ethel Myers. He married Cleora Crawley on Dec. 11, 1958. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1995.
A farmer and former owner/operator of Orchard Knoll, he was a 1947 graduate of the former St. Paul High School.
He is survived by a son, Patrick Neil Fisher of Madison; daughters Barbara J. (Bryan) Powers-Short of Scranton, Pa. and Amy Kay (Tom) Reynolds of Greensburg; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; a great-grandchild and four step-great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Cemetery in Greensburg.
Calvin E. Hitchell, 73. Greensburg
Calvin E. Hitchell, 73. Greensburg, died at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at his residence.
born Jan. 23, 1931 in Jackson Township, Decatur County, he was the son of Luther and Lola Berniece (Geise) Hitchell. He married Christy Lynch on June 10, 2000 in Sandusky. She survives.
A lifelong resident of Decatur County, he was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Township High School. He retired from farming in 1997.
Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Sherry Elliott of Butlerville, Sandra Pettit of Elizabethtown, Beverly Barnard, Jackie Robbins and Marsha Bennett, all of Greensburg and Rita Coffman of London, Ohio; sons Terry Hitchell of Westport, Brian Hitchell of Greensburg and Kevin Hitchell of Concordia, Kansas; a stepson, Braiden Halcomb of Greensburg; sisters Mary Lindsay of Knightstown, Faye Patrick of Bradenton, Fla., Janet Reed of Liberty and Frances Gault; 32 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-mother, Ethel Hitchell; brothers, John, Jerry and F. Eugene Hitchell; a sister, Lucille Knarr and a half-sister, Garnet Robbins.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Westport Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
Billy Joe Clark, 54, Patriot, Ind.
Billy Joe Clark, 54, Patriot, Ind. (formerly of Greensburg), died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
born Nov. 16, 1949 in Rush County, he was the son of Neal Clark and Ruth Naomi Sallee Clark, both of whom preceded him in death.
He worked at the Jefferson County Developmental Center in Madison, Ind.
He is survived by four brothers, Robert D. and Harold Clark, both of Greensburg, Dave Clark, Arizona, and Larry Clark, Sardinia, Ind.; six sisters, Shirley Heath, Greensburg, Sarah Hess, Shelbyville, Bonnie Townsend, California, Mary Reinstein, Florida, Nancy Ager, Pennsylvania, and Patricia Stewart, Connersville, Ind.; and four very close friends, Roger Pratt, Clyde S., Ed H. and Larry Y., who resided with him in the residence home.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Richard Clark; and two sisters, Carolyn Lawson and Connie Sue Clark.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gilliand-Howe Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial will follow and Sandcreek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Anna Laurene “Wright” Gray, 75, Greensburg
Anna Laurene “Wright” Gray, 75, Greensburg, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Heart Center of Indiana in Carmel.
born Aug. 1, 1928 in Decatur County, she was the daughter of Edcar and Eva (Pettinger) Levell, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was married to Robert J. Wright and he preceded her in death on May 31, 1977. She then married Charles Gray and he also preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Eddie Joe Wright and Jerry Lee Wright, both of Greensburg; two daughters, Pat (Donald) Foster, Greensburg, Marcella (Ernest) Stephens, North Vernon; four brothers, Edward Levell, Versailles, Les Levell, Chesterfield, Ind.; Normal Levell, Daleville, Ind., Wendall Levell, Greensburg; one sister, Mary Darlene Reed, Georgia, nine grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 13 step-grandchildren and several step-great grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death one step-son, Robert Wright, Jr.; one step-daughter, Jackie Shafer; one brother, Byron Levell; two sisters, Bert Robbins and Florence Levell.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home with the Rev. Perry Cook officiating. Internment will be held in the Flat Rock Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Jerry E. Chandler, 67, West Lafayette
Jerry E. Chandler, 67, West Lafayette, died at 10:55 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2004 at the Indiana Veteran’s Home in West Lafayette.
born on March 7, 1937 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Florence (Romine) Stapp and the late Charles Chandler.
A private memorial service will be held in the chapel at the Indiana Veteran’s Home on Friday with burial following the service in the soldier’s cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Indiana Veteran’s Home.
Father Larry Borders, 53, Napoleon
Father Larry Borders, 53, Napoleon, died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at his residence in Napoleon.
born April 17, 1950 in Batesville, he was the son of Willard and Loretta Pelsor Borders. His family lives in the Versailles area.
He graduated from Indiana University in 1973 and received his Master’s in 1975 in Linguistics and Theological studies. He traveled for 20 years around the world experiencing life, people and their cultures while working. He lived in Japan for 15 years, Saudi Arabia for two years a year in Spain and a few short stays in other areas including India. He was ordained on June 3, 2000. Serving as a priest for four years, he served as associate pastor at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Columbus from July 2000-02 and St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon where he was administrator from July 2002 until Aug. 10, 2003 where he became the church pastor and continued until 2004.
He is survived by a brother, Sherrill Borders of Benham; six nephews; three great-nieces; a great-nephew and a great-great-nephew.
Besides his parents, he was preceded (i.e. “followed”) in death by two sisters, Gayle Kieffer and Joy Brady.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Maurice Church in Napoleon. Burial will follow in Salem Cemetery in Cross Plains. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.
Memorials may be made to the St. Maurice Building Fund.
Norma Jean Louden, 73, Columbus
Norma Jean Louden, 73, Columbus, died at 7:01 a.m. on Monday, March 29, 2004 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
born July 10, 1930 in Westport, she was the daughter of Hubert D. Hull and Frances Naomi Hull. She married Lee R. Louden. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1995.
She sang in the choir as well as played the piano for many years at the Shiloh Baptist Church where she was a member. She also enjoyed watching birds and raising flowers.
She is survived by two sons, Robert Keith Louden of Elizabethtown and Michael Alan Louden of Columbus; a brother, Robert Hull of Hope and grandchildren, Tristan Alan Louden, Travis Wayne Louden and Jai Meulen.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home in Columbus and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. services at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. James Seddon officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association or the donor’s choice.
Annette Marie “Wimpy” Mirick, 41, Greensburg
Annette Marie “Wimpy” Mirick, 41, Greensburg, died Monday, March 29 at her residence in Greensburg.
born July 15, 1962 in Rushville, she was the daughter of Donald L. and Deanna (Wagner) Mirick.
She was the manager of Bourbon Street in Greensburg and was a former employee of Hill-Rom and Batesville Casket Company. She graduated from North Decatur High School in 1980.
Besides her parents, she is survived by grandparents, Geraldine Mirick of Greensburg and Roy (Norma) Wagner of Batesville; three brothers, Brian (Nancy) Mirick, Mike (Lynnetta) Mirick and Robert (Karen) Mirick, all of Greensburg.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, with Rev. Charles Wilfong officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association.
