Barbara E. Lynkins, 60, Connersville, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at her residence. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at Urban Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville. Burial will follow in Laurel North Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
John J. Alexander, 92, San Jose, CA
John J. Alexander, 92, San Jose, CA, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Lincoln Glen Manor in San Jose, CA.
born Nov. 11, 1914 in Osgood, he was the son of Edgar Alexander and Julia Besona Alexander. He married Virginia Winifred Carr on March 30, 1942. She preceded him in death in June 1965.
He moved from Osgood to Greensburg in 1955 and then to Anderson in 1967. He moved to California in 1992. He operated an electrical contracting business in Osgood in the 1950s and then later worked for the Decatur County REMC in Greensburg and retired from the Anderson Municipal Power and Light Company in 1983. He and his wife owned Alexander’s News and Variety Store on Main Street in Greensburg in the early 1960s. He was a veteran of WW II, serving as a master sergeant with the Army construction corps in the Pacific Theater and a graduate of Coyne American Institute in Chicago in 1941. He attended elementary school in Osgood and was a student at St. Meinrad Seminary.
He was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood, St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg, St.
Mary’s Catholic Church in Anderson and St. Christopher’s Church in San Jose, Calif.
He is survived by a son, Lou (Jackee) Alexander of San Jose, Calif.; a daughter, Tillie (Bruce) Carpenter of Broomfield, Colo.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Alexander.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood with Rev. Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Greendale Cemetery in Osgood. There will be no public visitation. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Frances (Fosler) Hornsby Bergman, 78, Milroy
Frances (Fosler) Hornsby Bergman, 78, Milroy, died Friday, March 19, 2004 at her residence.
born Dec. 28, 1925 in Franklin County, she was the daughter of Paul V. and Marie (Davis) Fosler. She married Charles Hornsby. He preceded her in death on Oct. 17, 1966. She then married Rueben Bergman. He preceded her in death in September 2000.
A farmer, she was a bookkeeper at Hood’s Garage and Helen K. Ross and was a member of the Church Guild, Home Economics Club and did extensive volunteer work.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette C. Colin of Tempe, Ariz; a son, Phillip M. (Debbie) Hornsby of Milroy and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Hornsby of Rush County.
Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Kevin Hornsby.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Burns Funeral Home in Milroy. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Milroy Christian Church with Rev. Ron Simbro officiating. Burial will follow in East Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Milroy Christian Church.
H. Daniel (Danny) Hope, 77, Waldron
H. Daniel (Danny) Hope, 77, Waldron, died at 9:37 a.m. Saturday, March 20 at his residence.
born Nov. 30, 1926 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Frank Hope and Norma (Haymond) Hope. He married Althura (Stillions) Hope on April 30, 1965 and she survives.
A 62-year resident of Rush County, he was a self-employed farmer for several years and retired in 1990. He also worked as a seed corn salesman for Jacques Seed Co. He was a member of Bethel Apostolic Church of Greensburg, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #70 in Shelbyville, former Post Commander, member of the Shelbyville 40&8 club, member of the IN. Railroad Museum and a member of Circus World Museum. He also served for the Army in the Korean War.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Charles (Andrea) Hope of Waldron and a granddaughter, Cassandra Hope.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service is at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Apostolic Church in Greensburg with Rev. Eston Poling officiating. Burial will follow in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County. Graveside military services will be conducted by local veteran organization. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville.
Memorials may be made to Vista Care of Indianapolis.
Don H. Lloyd, 84, Rushville
Don H. Lloyd, 84, Rushville, died Friday, March 20, 2004 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
born Dec. 14, 1919 in Rushville, he was the son of Taylor Lloyd and Zella Couch. He married Alta Mae Posey on Nov. 13, 1942 and she preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 2001.
Living in Rush County most his life, he had lived at Lake Santee from 1985-92. He worked as a Patrolman for the Rushville Police Department from 1946-66. He then worked at Rushville City Utilities from 1965-68 and at PSI where he retired in 1980. He was a Charter Member of the FOP, member of the First Baptist Church in Rushville where he had been Head Usher and Trustee. He was also an avid pool player.
He is survived by two sons, Larry (Martha) Lloyd of Greensburg and William (Susan) Lloyd of Burlington, VT; a sister, Ruth Vandiver of Rushville; four grandchildren, Mrs. Mike (Rhea Dawn) Buckley and Mrs. Aaron (Lisa) Kirchoff of Rushville, both of Rushville, Stefanie Lloyd and Kathryn Lloyd, both of Vermont and four great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Leslie Lloyd; two sisters, Betty O’Neil and Gladys Jacobs and a granddaughter, Christi Renee Lloyd.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Rushville with Rev. James Lloyd and Gary Kirchoff officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington East Hill Cemetery in Arlington. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Moster & Cox Funeral Home in Rushville.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Rushville.
Lewis McDaniel, 89, Waldron
Lewis McDaniel, 89, Waldron, died at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2004 at Waldron Health Care in Waldron.
born Feb. 7, 1915 in Shelby County, he was the son of Harry McDaniel and Bertha (Byrd) McDaniel. He married Wilma Mae (Banister) McDaniel on Oct. 29, 1945 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 10, 1990.
A lifetime resident of Shelby County and a self-employed farmer for 45 years, he retired in 1975, graduated from Waldron High School and attended Blue Ridge Christian Union Church. He was also an avid historian and collector of Indian artifacts.
He is survived by two sons, Mike (Cindy) McDaniel of Waldron and Richard (Becky) McDaniel of Lafayette; a brother, Forrest (Frosty) McDaniel of Waldron; six grandchildren, Andrew and Todd McDaniel, both of Waldron, Erin McDaniel of Chicago, Sarah McDaniel and Katie McDaniel both of Lafayette and Angela McDaniel of Waldron.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert and two sisters, Gladys McDaniel and Helen Cummings.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Farnsley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blue Ridge. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shelby County or the Blue Ridge Christian Union Church.
Mary Agnes Klene, 86, Greensburg
Mary Agnes Klene, 86, Greensburg, died at 7:10 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
born March 16, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of Harry Steinkamp and Mary (Wilson) Steinkamp. She married Edward F. Klene on Nov. 30, 1940 in Cincinnati and he preceded her in death on April 10, 1956.
A homemaker/housewife, she was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, St. Lawrence Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John and the Indiana State Teachers Association Scholarship Fund.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Edward (Lana) Klene of Indianapolis and Michael C. (Katherine) Klene of Greensburg; two daughters, Judith Ann (Clifford) Forest of Cincinnati and Harriet Francis Klene of Greensburg; a sister, Stella Bronner of Cincinnati; thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Steinkamp, Rose Allen and Henrietta Harrison; two brothers, Harry and Frank Steinkamp and a grandson, Keith.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School, Joyce Green Scholarship Fund or the Indiana State Teachers Association Scholarship Fund.
Hubert W. Meyer, 78, Greensburg
Hubert W. Meyer, 78, Greensburg, died at 11:36 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
born Feb. 11, 1926 in Clarksburg, he was the son of Joseph B. Meyer and Alvina Strueving Meyer. He married Betty (Scheidler) Meyer on June 5, 1948 and she survives.
A retired farmer who farmed for 47 years, he was the Club Manager for the Knights of Columbus, Council #1042 in Greensburg, a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as a former Grand Knight. He was also past president of the Decatur County Fair Board, past director of the Decatur County REMC, present member of the Parks and Recreation Board of Decatur County, current board member of the Greensburg Country Club and past president of the Youth Baseball League. He was also an avid golfer.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a 1944 graduate of Greensburg High School.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Steve (JoAnn) Meyer and Rick (Karen) Meyer, both of Greensburg; two daughters, Diane (Richard) Critser of Greensburg and Ginny (Paul) Gordon of Cambridge City; a sister, Marjorie Eineman of Greensburg, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg. The American Legion will perform military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Gibault Home in care of the funeral home.
