Nellie Wood, 87

Nellie Wood, 87, of St. Paul, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Waldron Health Care.

She as born in Shelby County on Aug. 9, 1916, the daughter of Clarence and Lillian (Robertson) Hinkle.

On Feb. 2, 1973, she married George Wood. He died in 1997.

Lenora was retired from the Stanley Jones Agency, Shelbyville, in 1978. She was a former member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Judy White Gay of St. Paul and a nephew, Jeffrey White of Mims, Fla.

Visitation is Saturday, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. services at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, St. Paul, Rev. Mike Layne officiating. Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery, Shelby County.

Memorials can be made to Waldron Health Care, in care of the funeral home.

Patricia Louise Bosse, 61, Peru

Patricia Louise Bosse, 61, Peru, died at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at her residence.

born May 21, 1942 in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of William and Martha Elsey. Her father survives in Peru. She married Wallace P. Bosse on Aug. 24, 1963 in Osgood and he survives.

She worked as a registered nurse at Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru and at the Veteran’s Hospital in Marion where she retired in 1998. She graduated in 1960 from Osgood High School as the class valedictorian. She graduated with distinction from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Indianapolis in 1963. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Peru where she sang in the choir, led the youth group, taught Sunday school, served as a deacon and worked in the church office. She was a past member of Psi Iota Xi sorority and was a leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren.

Besides her husband and father, she is survived by two daughters, Kristin L. (Bob) Hunter of Peru and Karyl D. (Jim) Kirk of Wabash; a son, Kyle W. (Jennifer) Bosse of Brownsburg; a brother, Robert (Judy) Elsey of Terre Haute; a sister, Diane (Terry) Hosfeld of Crown Point; a brother-in-law, Dale Bosse of Batesville; a sister-in-law, Carolyn (Jim) Scheele of Batesville and eight grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Peru with Pastor John E. Hess officiating. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home in Peru.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Peru or the Wabash-Miami Home Health Care and Hospice.

Fern Carolina Green, 96, Batesville

Fern Carolina Green, 96, Batesville, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at The Waters of Batesville in Batesville.

born June 2, 1907 in Batesville, she was the daughter of Charles and Ella (Turner) Becker. She married Ervin Green. He preceded her in death on Dec. 11, 1976.

She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John United Church of Christ in Batesville.

She is survived by three daughters, Mary C. Emsweller, Roberta J. “Bobbie” Siebert and Myra J. Nobbe, all of Batesville; three sons, Ronald E. Green of Batesville, Paul F. Green of Clearwater, FL. and William C. Green of Denver,; eight grandsons; eight granddaughters and 19 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Essie Schorr and Gladys Luers and a brother, Forest Becker.

Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with Rev. David Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Margaret Mary Community Hospital Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Luella Hicks, 88, Napoleon

Luella Hicks, 88, Napoleon, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be made to the Napoleon Central House or the St. Maurice Catholic Church.

Vera V. Holt, 78, Jamestown, KY, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at Russell County Hospital in Russell, KY. Funeral service is at 2 p.m. on Sunday at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel in Jamestown, KY. Burial will follow in Jamestown Cemetery in Jamestown, KY. Visitation will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow in Methodist Church Cemetery in Batesville. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Heart Fund or Methodist Church.

Roger D. Briggs, 87, Greensburg

Roger D. Briggs, 87, Greensburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

born Sept. 25, 1916 in Logansport, he was the son of Don and Mabel (Nolan) Briggs. He married Ella Haywood on Nov. 25, 1971 and she survives.

He was a retired farmer and restaurateur.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Steve (Paula) Briggs of St. Petersburg, FL, Tom (Janice) Briggs and Lance Briggs, both of Indianapolis; a daughter, Melanie (Gene) Enzweiler of Cox’s Creek, KY; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jean Doran.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Tim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery in Greensburg. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Viola K. Cox, 82, Columbus

Viola K. Cox, 82, Columbus, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus.

born Aug. 22, 1921 in Taylorsville, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Josie Gardner Chrysty. She married George W. Cox on Sept. 2, 1939 and he preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1984.

A professional housekeeper and health care giver, she was a member of the Methodist faith and an avid gardener.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Cox of Columbus; two daughters, Mildred England and Wilma Compton, both of Columbus; a sister, Patricia Sterret of Lexington; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard Cox; two sisters, Helen Maxine and Thelma Chrysty; two brothers, James Ivan and Marvin L. Chrysty and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus with Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
