Clara Frances Peterson, 67, New Point
Clara Frances Peterson, 67, New Point, died at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis.
Born Sept. 26, 1936 in Milan, she was the daughter of Ernie Wilson and Mollie Rodgers Wilson. She married Thomas Peterson on June 28, 1952 in Greensburg. He survives.
A graduate of Napoleon High School, she worked at the Ross Point Truck Plaza and the Jay C Store in Greensburg.
Besides her husband, she is survived by daughters, Trish (Robert) Harpring and Marcia (David) McMillian, both of Greensburg, Christine (Richard) Shouse of New Point, Sherry (Kevin) Inman of Rossburg and Sandra (Victor) Dinsmore of Indianapolis; brothers, Ray, Shellie and Gordon “Jim” Wilson, all of Batesville; five sisters, Josephine Godby of Milan, Margaret Peterson of Cincinnati, Coralee Craft of Middletown, Ohio, Faye Paxon of Danielville, Ill. and Judy Short of Sherman, Texas, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ernie Wilson, Jr., Elzie Wilson and J.C. Wilson.
Visitation will be from 4-8 tonight at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg and from 9 a.m. until the 10 a.m. service Friday at New Point Christian Church with Mark Vice officiating. Burial will follow in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the New Point Christian Church Building Fund.
Virginia (Butterfield) Franklin, 101, Greensburg
Virginia (Butterfield) Franklin, 101, Greensburg, died at 5:58 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Morning Breeze Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born Dec. 13, 1902 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Ralph Bradbury Butterfield and Cora Louise (Richardson) Butterfield. She married Edward C. Franklin on Christmas Day, 1924 in Richmond, Va. He preceded her in death.
A homemaker, she was a member of the First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ in Elkhart, the Officers Wives Club and the Army.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (Jayne B.) Franklin of Mountain Center, CA and Dr. Robert B. (Joanne Lamberson) Franklin of Elkhart; a daughter, Virginia (Mrs. Joe H.) Stanley of Greensburg; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward C. Franklin; three sisters, Cora Mae Decker, Jane Granger and Mary Elizabeth Ladd.
Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.
Joshua D. Maddux, 16, Westport
Joshua D. Maddux, 16, Westport, died at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as a result of an auto accident on Sunday.
Born Nov. 11, 1987 in Columbus, he was the son of N. Jay Maddux and Pam (Bower) Maddux.
Josh had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County. He was a junior at South Decatur High School where he was involved in football, baseball and FFA.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a step-mother, Tabitha Maddux of Westport; a brother, Jason Maddux of Corpus Christi, Texas, a half-brother, Christopher J. Mad-dux of Westport; maternal grandmother, Lourina Bower of Westport; paternal grandparents, Richard and Ruth Anna Maddux of Westport and step-paternal grandparents, Richard and Joyce Smith of Milan.
He was preceded in death by a maternal grandfather, Alva W. “John” Bower.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Bear Creek Cemetery, south of Alert. Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund in memory of Joshua D. Maddux through the funeral home.
Harold Albert Rose, 55, Greensburg
Harold Albert Rose, 55, Greensburg, died on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 at the Columbus Hospice Center in Columbus.
Born April 2, 1949 in Versailles, he was the son of Otto Herman and Luella (Lane) Rose.
A Viet Nam veteran having served in the Army, he was a member of the American Legion in Greensburg, the VFW in North Vernon and a life-long member of the Am Vets.
He is survived by two daughters, Corrina A. Williams of Columbus and Erica S. Eden of Columbus; three brothers, Fred Rose of Osgood, Carl Rose of Rushville and Raymond Rose of Osgood; six sisters, Geneva Bunten, Mary Baxter, Debbie Shirley Blain-Rose, all of Indianapolis, Helen Rose of Madison, Lola Kolodzik of Brookville and Dorthy Moeller of Las Vegas.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Alvin E. Rose, Robert Rose and Charles Rose.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greens-burg
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Paul Haugen officiating. Burial will follow in Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Military graveside services will be held. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Norman D. Stoffel, 88, Mackey, died at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He is survived by a son, Gary (Katie) Stoffel of Greensburg. Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. Thursday at and from 8 a.m. until the 2 p.m. service Friday in Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, with Rev. Kenneth Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Buckskin. Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 462. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Cemetery fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Albert “Pete” Wilkerson, 88, Osgood, died Aug. 3, 2004 at his residence in Osgood.Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Friday at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral service is at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral hom. Military services will be provided by the Osgood American Legion Post No. 267 and Napoleon Keene-Henneke VFW. Birdina Ledford, 84, Greensburg
Birdina Ledford, 84, Greensburg (resident of the Hickory Creek Nursing Home), died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born Feb. 15, 1920 in Lincoln Co, Ky., she was the eldest child of John Will and Louesia (Dail) Smith. She married Roosevelt Ledford on June 19, 1937 in Lincoln County. He preceded her in death on Nov. 20, 1994.
A homemaker, she grew up in Lincoln County and attended Holcomb Mills School and was a member of the Clarksburg Christian Church. They lived in several locations in Indiana and finally moved to Decatur County in the early 1950s.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Garcia (Katie) Ledford of Greensburg; a daughter, Charlotte A. (John W.) Terrell of Underwood; a brother, John William “Jay” Smith of Lincoln Coun-ty; a sister, Mildred Rebecca “Mid” Page of Greenfield; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grand-children and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughters, Louise (Charles) Melton and Lillian (Billie E.) Warren; sisters, Noreen (Maurice) Kissinger, Nora Alice Davidson and a granddaughter, Melanie (John) Barlowski.
Visitation will be from 10-1 p.m. today in Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral service is at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow in South Park Cemetery.

Burial will follow in St. John (Huntersville) Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Rosemary “Rosie” Wallpe, 73, Batesville, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg.
Born Dec. 10, 1930 in Decatur County she was the daughter of Charles Burkhart and Theresa Hessler Burkhart. She married James Wallpe on Sept. 6, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Greensburg and he survives.
She was a secretary at Farm Bureau before retiring and was a member of St. Louis Church, Daughters of Isabella and the St. Louis Ladies Society.
Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Connie Wuestefeld of Batesville, Carolynn “Susie” Schwegman of Greensburg and Rita Meyer of Oldenburg; a son, Scott Wallpe of Greensburg; a sister, Louella Feldman of Indianapolis; four brothers, Joe, Ed and Bill Burkhart, all of Greensburg and Tom Burkhart of Hixson, Tenn., and 10 grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wallpe.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville with a rosary at 6 p.m.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Church with Rev. Daniel Mahan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
