Robert Rethlake, 80, Millhousen
Robert Rethlake, 80, Millhousen, died on Tuesday, June 9, 2004 at his residence.
Born June 23, 1923 in Millhousen, he was the son of Joseph and Olivia (Lammerding) Rethlake.
A farmer, he was a member of the Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department and was also a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by a sister-in-law, Lucille Rethlake of Kokomo; a brother-in-law, Urban Duerstock of Greensburg; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Rethlake and Edwin Rethlake and a sister, Jo Ann Duerstock.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Millhousen with Rev. Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed on Friday at 7 p.m. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to the Millhousen Volunteer Fire Department.
Barbara M. Schwering, 76, Westport
Barbara M. Schwering, 76, Westport, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at her residence.
Born Sept. 3, 1927 in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Clinton Clyde and Mary Edith (Shoemake) Manlief. She married Leo B. Schwering on Aug. 30, 1955 and he preceded her in death on May 12, 1988.
Born and raised in Jennings County, she had been a Decatur County resident since 1955 and graduated from Zenas High School in 1946. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Sarah and Donna Schwering, both of Westport; four sisters, Dorothy Miller of Greensburg, Martha Fonseth of Shelbyville, Agnes Manlief of Cincinnati, Ohio and Betty Rogers of McKee, Ky.; and a brother, Alvin Manlief of Westport.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy A. and Ray E. Manlief.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Denis Catholic Church with Father Darvin Winters officiating. Burial will follow in St. Denis Catholic Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport.

Lorine C. Fehrman (Walke), 86, Cleves, OH, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 at The Waters of Batesville in Batesville.
Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg with Rev. John Turnbull, O.F.M. officiating.
Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg.
Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Memorials may be made to Miami Township Fire Department #2.
Sr. Benedict Esquibel, O.S.F., 99, Oldenburg
Sr. Benedict Esquibel, O.S.F., 99, Oldenburg, died on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg.
Born May 11, 1905 in Tierra Amarilla in New Mexico, she was the daughter of Manuel Esquibel and Lucia Lujan Esquibel.
A teacher, she taught at St. Anthony’s in Dayton, St. Clement’s and St. Catherine’s in Cincinnati (all Ohio), St. Anthony’s in Streator, Ill., St. Gabriel’s in Connersville, St. Michael in Brookville, St. Mary’s in North Vernon (all Indiana), and St. Joseph’s in Park View, Infant Jesus in Tierra Amarilla and St. Joseph’s in Carlsbad (all New Mexico). She entered the convent on Dec. 24, 1926 and made her final vows on July 26, 1934. She retired to the motherhouse in 1978.
She is survived by a sister, Sr. Consuelo Esquibel, O.S.F. of Oldenburg and two brothers, Pete Esquibel of Tierra Amarilla, NM and Arthur Esquibel of Belen, NM.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Esquibel and a brother, Alfredo Esquibel.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service Friday at the Sisters of St. Francis Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg with Rev. Carl Hawver, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Oldenburg. Memorials may be made to Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Oldenburg.
Mildred R. Rodgers, 83, Greensburg
Mildred R. Rodgers, 83, Greensburg, died at 2:49 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at Morning Breeze Retirement Center in Greensburg.
Born Oct. 17, 1920 in Edwards County, Ill., she was the daughter of Albert Smith and Ressie Ibbotson. She married Forest E. Rodgers on Jan. 14, 1950 in Dover and he preceded her in death in 1997.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Greensburg United Methodist Church and attended Whitesville and Crawfordsville High Schools.
She is survived by two sons, Phillip (Angela) Rodgers of Melbourne, Fla., and Steve Rodgers of Greensburg; a daughter, Janet (Stephen) Storms of Greens-burg; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Revs. Charles Wilfong and Raymond Duff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the cemetery.

Charles E. Purcell, 72, passed away at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis on Saturday, August 7, 2004.
Private funeral services have already taken place.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home of Greensburg.

Clifford Wahman, 83, Osgood, died on Monday, Aug. 9, 2004 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Napoleon.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Military services will be provided by Keene Henneke VFW Post of Napoleon and Wm. A Gilland American Legion Post of Osgood.
Memorials may be made to the St. Maurice Church.
Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mary Ann Linville, 66, Greensburg, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 at her residence in Greensburg.
Born, Sept. 4, 1937 in Rush Co., Mary Ann was the daughter of Elmer “Curt” and Laverna G. (VanLue) Hoffman.
She had worked for 28 years at NTN-BCA in Greensburg. She was a member of the First Church of God. She had attended Adams and St. Paul Schools.
She was married to Virgil E. Linville on Oct. 26, 1959. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by daughters Mel Brancamp, Greensburg, Virgie (Dan) Dugle, Greensburg; step-daughter Wyona Bradley, Osgood; son, Rick (Carla) Linville, Greensburg; step-son, Ronald (Mary) Linville, Batesville; brother, James (Melanie) Hoffman, Sr.; nephews James (Lisa) Hoffman, Jr., Greensburg, Steve (Tammy) Hankins; step- niece Sarah Rodda, North Vernon; cousin, Jimmy (Delores) VanLue, Rush Co.; grandchildren, including Amanda (Clay Cooke) Brancamp, Terre Haute, Craig and Ben Brancamp, Christopher and Joshua Linville, Hillary, Kelsey and Rachel Dugle, all of Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg with Rev. Glen Hensley officiating. Interment will be held in the South Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to the Decatur County Hospice.
