History:
Residential: He was a native of Westport and graduated from South Decatur High School in 1981. Occupation: He retired in November 2001 as a First Class Petty Officer from the US Navy Seabees after 20 years of service. He enlisted in the Navy’s Delayed Entry Program in December 1980. He reported to his basic training in September 1981 at the Recruit Training Command Center at Great Lakes, Illinois. And then to the Construction Battalion Center, Port Hueneme, California. After graduation from Construction Mechanic “A” school he was assigned to the following duty stations: Gulfport Mississippi, Guam, Rota Spain, Sigonella Sicly, Antarctica, Christ Church New Zealand, Subic Bay & Cubi Point Philippines and to Saudi Arabia in support of operation Desert Shield. At his retirement he was stationed with the Navel Construction Battalion Unit FOUR ZERO TWO Key West, Florida as Alfa Company Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
His awards include: The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 awards), Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Citation (2 awards), Battle “E” Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Medal (5 awards) National Defense Service Medal, Antarctic Service Medal, Southeast Asia Service Medal (Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia and Star) Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (5 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon (7 awards), Kuwait Liberation Medal, Expert Rifle Medal and sharpshooter Pistol Ribbon.
