Betty Jean Williams, 76
Betty Jean Williams, 76 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away at 8:00 a.m. at the Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana on October 30, 2006.
She was born in Greensburg on May, 15, 1930 and was the daughter of Vernie and Amanda (Moffett) Davis. She married Gene A. Williams on September 9, 1960. Gene and Betty resided in Point Pleasant, West Virginia from 1974 - 1994. She was a member of the Greensburg Country Club and the Greensburg Elks Lodge.
She is survived by her husband, Gene; her son, Roddy (Lorraine) Eastwood of Rushville; a brother, Jim Davis of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Florine Mueller of Indianapolis; three granddaughters, Brandy (Jason) Keppel, Brooke (Mike) Heuer, Bridgette Eastwood; step-grandchildren Kari (Jason) Dewitt, Clifton Johns, Michael Newton, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernie and Amanda (Moffett) Davis; three brothers, Dick, Ransom, and Mike Davis and four sisters, Marie Davis, June Davis, Lena Deethardt, Kate Swegman and Louise Moulton.
A visitation service for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 4 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, November 2 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Visiting Nurses of the Home Care of Decatur County Hospital.
Edith (Sparks) Owens, 88
Edith (Sparks) Owens, 88 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on October 28, 2006.
She served as a full-time pioneer as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 43 years.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Becky) Owens of Waverly, Ohio, Kathryn (Robert) Charles of Bargersville, Ind., Patty (Don) Miller of Columbus, Ohio, Karen (Stan) Avramidis of Naples, Fla. and Sandy (Jim) Steward of Silver City, New Mexico; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Claude Owens.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Franklin Kingdom Hall of Jehova’s Witnesses. There will be no calling prior to the service.
Arrangements are by the Stevens Mortuary Chapel of the Flowers.
Bernard F. O’Neal, 89
Bernard F. O’Neal, 89 of Peachtree City, Georgia, passed away on October 29, 2006.
He was born in Martin County, Indiana and lived in Bedford, Indiana, for 34 years, prior to moving to Peachtree City in 1989.
In 1939 he graduated from Indiana University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry Reserves. During World War II, he served as a Unit Commander, and after, served as Battalion Commander in the United States Army Reserves. He joined the 38th Infantry Division and served as Executive Officer, Deputy Commander and Commander. He received the Indiana Distinguished Service Medal in 1972, and retired from the Reserves as a Colonel after 33 years of service.
In 1980, after 29 years of service, he retired from General Motors in Bedford, Indiana, as Director of Training. While in Bedford, he was president of the Boys Club and served as its director for 10 years. He was president and director of the Bedford Medical Center, member of the St. Vincent de Paul Church, and member of the Parish Council. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, and United Way. In retirement, he was active in the Pioneers Club, Meals on Wheels and Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. He was an avid golfer, bridge player and gardener.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 10 years, Gloria; five sons, three daughters, 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Louise, who died in 1995, and his daughter, Patty, who died in 1998.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 4, at the St. Maurice Catholic Church, in Greensburg, Indiana, followed by Interment with full military honors at the St. Maurice Catholic Cemetery. A memorial Mass is also planned for 10 a.m. Monday, November 6, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, Georgia. Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
Bennie Thomas, Jr., 79
Bennie Thomas, Jr., 79 of New Point, Indiana passed away on July 2, 2007 at the Kindred Hospital in Greenwood, Indiana.
He was born on June 6, 1928 in Whitesburg, Kentucky to Bennie and Bertha (Carpenter) Thomas, Sr. He came to know the late Florence Thomas and H.C. Carpenter as his step-parents.
He was retired from American Lifts in Greensburg after 18 years and before that, had worked in the coal mines for 25 years. He had been raised by his grandparents, Dan and Polly Thomas, who have both preceded him in death. He was a member of the New Point Christian Church and loved spending time with his friends and family. He also loved hunting, fishing, gardening and reading.
He was married to Louise Ison in Whitesburg, Kentucky on April 3, 1948 and she survives.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Thomas; three sons, Lanny C. (Debbie) Thomas of New Point, Ronny C. (Charlene) Thomas and Jeffrey (Stephanie) Thomas of Batesville; one daughter-in-law, Debra Thomas of Greensburg; one brother, Cornelius Thomas of Florida; three sisters, Wilma (Art) Carson of Florida, Jean (Thurman) Patterson and Joyce (Newell) Phillips of Tennessee; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Danny Thomas, Sr. and one granddaughter.
Visitation services will be on Thursday, July 5 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the New Point Christian Church. Funeral services will be on Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Mark Vice officiating. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.
Memorials may be made to the New Point Christian Church or the New Point Fire Department.
Meyers Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.

James Schoettelkotte, 57, Davie, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007 at Vitas Healthcare in Pembroke Pines, Fla.
Visitation is from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville.
