Norma "Jean" Martin, 79
Norma "Jean" Martin, 79 of Greensburg, Indiana passed away on May 5, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana.
She was born on December 24, 1928 to Jacob and Thelma (Harlan) Harris in Ferndale, Michigan. On July 14, 1947 she married Delbert Martin, who survives. Last summer they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary.
She attended Ben Davis, Washington, and Napoleon High Schools. For 37 years she was employed at Bohn Aluminum, retiring in 1991. She was an avid bowler, golfer, and for many years was a proud member of the "hole" in one club. Her activities included past member and office holder of the American Legion Auxiliary, a 57 year member and office holder of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and fundraiser for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization. She was also a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Greensburg.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert Martin of Greensburg; one son, Terry (Penny) Martin of Elwood; one daughter, Carol (Dale) Boing of Greensburg; one sister, Ann Harrison of Malvern, AK; one brother, William Harris of Seagoville, Texas; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ed Harris; two half-brothers, Leroy and Herschel Arnold and one half-sister, Rosemary Arnold.
Visitation will be held for family and friends on from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home in Greensburg. Funeral Services will be held on at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 9 at the funeral home with Rev. Dennis Wenholz officiating. Burial will follow in the South Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greensburg Big Brothers/Big Sisters and/or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Norma Jean Rathburn, 65
Norma Jean Rathburn, 65 passed away on May 3, 2008 at 5:48 a.m. at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
She was born in Shelbyville, Indiana on April 20, 1943 to Turner and Zella (Shephard) Caine.
She graduated from Knightstown High School in 1963 and from beauty college in 1964. She had been a Greensburg resident since 1965. She worked as a nanny for the Stapp family and was an employee and volunteer for the Decatur County Chapter of the American Red Cross. She enjoyed playing Bingo, doing word search puzzles and was an avid Yahtzee player.
She is survived by her daughter, Becky Voiles Tuttle Stevens of Greensburg; her sons, Thomas Voiles of Anaheim, Calif. and William D. Rathburn of Greensburg; her sisters, Frances Conner of Shelbyville, Sue Quarazzo of Shelbyville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Turner “Tuck”, Sebe, George and Jeff Caine; her sisters, Pauline Merchant, Shirley Roddy and Madeline Caine.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6 at the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Westport Cemetery.
Bessie L. Armstrong, 96
Bessie L. Armstrong, 96 passed away on May 2, 2008 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born in Hicksville, Ohio. She was a Payroll Clerk with General Electric Company for 16 years, retiring in 1967. She was a member of G.E. Elex Club and Star of the East O.E.S.
Visitation will be from 4 - 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7 at the D.O. McComb and Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Avenue, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.

Donald Lee Wilhoit, 79
Donald Lee Wilhoit, 79, of Greensburg passed away Saturday May 3, 2008 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Facility in Columbus, IN. He was born on July 29, 1928 in Decatur County the son of George J. and Josephine (Vernon) Wilhoit. On September 23, 1949 he married Ruth O. Barnard in Greensburg, IN. He was a member of the Greensburg Wesleyan Church and was a Supervisor at Delta Faucet until his retirement in 1989. He was an avid Gardner, Fisherman and enjoyed taking Photographs.
Survivors include: wife - Mrs. Ruth Wilhoit of Greensburg, One Daughter: Mrs. Donald (Donna) Niehoff of Batesville, IN, and 3 grandchildren: Benjamin L. (Heather) Niehoff of Bloomington, IN., Angela R. (Devon) Delvecchio of Oxford, OH., & Carrie L. (Matthew) Sander of Chicago, IL. Eight Great Grandchildren: Alexandria & Austin Niehoff; Sydney Clark; Rian, Kieran, & Finley Delvecchio; Josephine & Liam Sander. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home Monday, May 5, 2008 from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the Greensburg Wesleyan Church, 714 West Main Street, Greensburg, IN at 10:00 AM with visitation available from 9:00AM until the time of service. Pastor Doug Preston will be officiating. Burial will follow at the South Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Greensburg Wesleyan Church or to the Southeastern Indiana Hospice.

Marjorie Jean Little McClain, 78 of Columbus and formerly of Osgood, Indiana passed away on May 3, 2008 at the Columbus Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 8 in the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the Osgood Baptist Church or to the Greendale Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Capt. Roger Lavelle Thackery, 89
Capt. Roger Lavelle Thackery, 89 of Anniston, Ala., passed away on October 8, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center in Anniston, AL.
He was a native of Decatur County, and joined the U.S. Army in 1938. He was stationed at Anniston Army Depot from 1956 as finance officer and retired in 1961. He was the manager of A.O.D. Federal Credit Union from 1961-1982. He also served for over 50 years as a Mason in the Greensburg Chapter and was a member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club (The Airstream Club). He was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia G. Thackery of Anniston; daughter, Shera T. Bake of Tallahassee, Fla.; three sons, Russell L. Thackery (Jackie) of Dade City, Fla., David R. Thackery of Huntsville, AL and Mark J. Thackery (Janice) of Eastaboga; two grandsons, Ross L. Thackery (Stephanie) and Brandon D. Angel (Lacy); two great-grandchildren; three step-children and numerous grand-and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61.5 years, Edythe Eloise Jones Thackery, (married on 2/26/1942); father, George C. Thackery; mother, Anna Louise (Metz) Thackery and sister, Doris T. Brown Nolan.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. (C.S.T.) on Thursday, October 9 at the Miller Funeral Home and Crematory in Oxford, Ala. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11 at the Rossburg Cemetery in New Point.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
Debra A. Weber, 56
Debra A. Weber, 56, of Greensburg, passed away on Jan. 18, 2009 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 19, 1952, in Greensburg, the daughter of Wayne and Virgie (Curry) Myers. On Feb. 10, 1979 she married James Weber. She worked as a beautician and was a member of the Burney Baptist Church.
Survivors include: husband, James Weber of Greensburg; daughter, Jenny Zapfe of Greensburg; step sons, David (Rhonda) Weber of Greensburg and Donnie (Bridgett) Weber of Greensburg; brother, Gerald Myers of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Cody Young, Lucinda Madden, Christian Ward, Sebastian Zapfe, Casey Clark, Elliott Weber, and Gavin Weber.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gary Myers.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. at the funeral home on Friday, Jan. 23 with Rev. Danny Wolford officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Decatur County.
Freida Raptakis, 89
Freida Raptakis, 89, of Greensburg, formerly of Valparaiso, passed away on Jan. 18, 2009.
She was the wife of Peter Raptakis and he preceded her in death in 1980.
She is survived by, daughter, Cleo (John) Duncan, Greensburg; son, Dean (Helen) Raptakis of Naperville, Ill.; grandchildren, Beth (Kyle) Rich, Peter (Jennifer) Raptakis, Vicki (Troy) Gardner, Renee (Michael) Larmon, and Mary (Damien) Stein; great grandchildren, Alexander Rich, Sarah and Rachel Raptakis, Ellen, Lauren, and Duncan Gardner, Anna-Marie, Maddie, and Ryan Larmon, and Eva Stein.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home of Greensburg and the Moeller Funeral Home of Valparaiso. A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, IN, 46383 from 4 to 8 p.m (Central Time) on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The Funeral Service will be held at the Saint Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St. Merrillville, IN, 46410 beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22. Father James and Father Ted will be officiating with the Interment at Ridge Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Morning Breeze, 950 N. Lakeview Drive Greensburg, IN 47240.
John S. Tamme, 48
John S. Tamme, 48, Greensburg, passed away on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, Jan. 14, 1961 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of Lembitt and Aetna (Youngblood) Tamme.
He was a self employed contractor. He graduated in 1979 from Greensburg High School.
He is survived by his father, Lembitt Tamme, Greensburg; one sister, Melissa (Andy) Geis, Greensburg; one nephew, Jordan Ramer, Greensburg; one niece, Allison Geis, Greensburg.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Private services were held for the family at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg.
Interment will be held at a later date in the South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.
Memorials may be made to the Decatur County Hospice or to the Decatur County Hospital Foundation.
