Debra A. Weber, 56, of Greensburg, passed away on Jan. 18, 2009 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gilliland-Howe Funeral Home.

Ann E. Montag, 59

Ann E. Montag, 59, of St. Peter’s died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009.

Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 2 at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at St. Peter’s Church in St. Peter’s, with burial in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Art Ehrman Cancer Fund.

Rose C. Powers, 82

Rose C. Powers, 82, Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Arbor Grove Nursing Home in Greensburg.

Born Feb. 21, 1927 in Rush County, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary (Hessler) Dwenger.

She was retired after working at Randall’s for 18 years and then at the I.O.O.F. Home for 10 years. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the St. Lawrence Ladies Auxiliary, and she was a 4-H leader.

She was married to Harold Powers on Aug. 25, 1951 and he preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1968.

Rose is survived by six sons; Harold “Tony” (Norita) Powers, St. Paul, Donald Powers, Indianapolis, Ray Powers, Greensburg, Art (Christine) Powers, Sandusky, Andy (Dawn) Powers, Greensburg, Jacob (Vicki) Powers, Greensburg; four daughters; Mary (John) Brogan, Greensburg, Rita (Don) Sallee, Westport, Angela Miller, Greensburg, Dot Perkins, Greensburg; one brother; Ed (Brenda) Dwenger, Greensburg; three sisters; Ruth Hamilton, Millhousen, Anna McCullough, Greensburg; 36 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters; Mabel Kay Yorn, and Susan Wilmer, two brothers; Dick and Leonard Dwenger, and four sisters; Mary Ellen Veerkamp, Esther Martin, Kathleen Scheidler, and Betty Harris, and a son-in-law; David Miller.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greensburg with Msgr. Harold Knueven officiating.

Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg.

Memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Church Building Fund.

Robert P. Blank, 94

Robert P. Blank, 94, of Batesville died Sunday, March 1, 2009.

Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 at St. Louis Church. The family requests memorials to the Batesville Area Ministerial Association Food Pantry or Batesville EMS 10.

Edna L. Houze, 89

Edna L. Houze, 89, of Sardinia, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 in Tempe, Ariz., where she had resided with her sister for several months.

Born in Roy, Mont. on May 3, 1919, Edna was the daughter of Harry and Erma Agnew. She was raised in Decatur County and attended Jackson High School. She graduated from Franklin College in 1941 and received her Masters Degree from Indiana University in 1951.

Edna began her teaching career in Union City where she taught English and Latin for four years. For the next eight years, she was the assistant Professor of English and the director of residences at Franklin College. From 1953 to 1959, she taught at Ottawa University in Kansas where she was also Dean of Women and associate Dean of Students. Upon returning to Indiana in 1959, she taught English at Columbus North High School, served as Dean of Senior Women, guidance counselor, and Director of Guidance until her retirement from North in 1986.

Edna married Cecil M. Houze on July 18, 1959. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2001.

Edna had been an active member of the Sardinia Baptist Church since her childhood, and served as Sunday School teacher for many years. She was director of numerous church events, and served as wedding coordinator to many local brides. Edna was also a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, Psi Association of Delta Zeta, and was a former member of the Franklin College Alumna Council.

Known to friends and family for her warmth and generosity, Edna was an encourager and an inspiration to all who knew her. She taught each one to give his best, and to strive for even more. Her penchant for etiquette and elegance, as well as her unwavering faith in God, were lessons well received by her nieces and nephews.

Edna is survived by one sister, Opal Barton, of Tempe, Ariz., and two dear cousins, Janice Anderson of Columbus, and Shirley Vanest White of Rushville. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Don Overmyer of Perrysville, Ohio, Jon Overmyer of Westport, Cheryl Dougherty, Rick Agnew, and Kelly Agnew of Columbus, Kim Smith, of North Vernon, Mike Barton of Chandler, Ariz., Gary Barton and Kathy Lundgren of Gilbert Ariz., Maurice Houze of Odessa, Texas, Marilyn Trosky of North Vernon, and Jerilyn Manlief of Westport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters, Mildred and Helen Agnew, and Mabel Overmyer, and a brother, Charles Agnew.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Sardinia Baptist Church on Friday, March 6. Calling hours will be at the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 and on Friday one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sardinia Baptist Church through Bass and Gasper Funeral Home or directly to the church.

June Welage Grigsby, 82, of Shelbyville, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the St. Francis Hospital and Health Campus in Greenwood.

She was born on June 6, 1926 in Greensburg to parents Ernest Christian and Bessie Gilbert (Gregory). At the time of her death, she was married to John Edward Grigsby, who survives.

June Welage Grigsby was a homemaker and a member of Delta Theta Tau, Ladies Golf Association and attended the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge and loved her garden, flowers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a 1944 graduate of Greensburg High School.

Survivors include: husband John E. Grigsby; son Steven R. Welage of Greenfield; daughter Lin (Rex Steffey) Davis of Shelbyville; daughter Anita L. (Garry) Reed; daughter Barbara A. (Matt) Brown of Prince’s Lake; daughter Cynthia J. (Bret) Szabo of Bedford; grandchildren Ted Welage, Katie Davis, Kelli McMains, Lori Asher, Dustan Reed and Zachary Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-father Lloyd Gilbert, first husband Robert C. Welage, brother Robert Paul Christian and sisters Louise Clark, Betty Atwood and Margaret Alice Werking.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 1 at the Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 4 at Carmony-Ewing Chapel of Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory. Burial will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Shelbyville, with Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church and Shelby Senior Services.
