Edgar Huff
Edgar Huff, 90, of North Vernon passed away at 4:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Huff retired in 1980 as a inspector after 20 years of service at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana. He had previously worked for Jefferson Proving Grounds in Jefferson County, Indiana, Ohio Glass Works in Toledo, Ohio and was a Log Truck Driver in Kentucky. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in North Vernon and Diesel Workers Union. He attended Kingdom Come School in Linefork, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving his country during World War II. He was devoted to his family and a true Christian who loved everyone. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the Alzheimer's Foundation or Hospice of Jennings County.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in North Vernon with the Rev. Bob Weeks officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2009 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to Funeral at the Church. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with Military graveside rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars, Matt Hester Post #2021.
Born on March 15, 1918 in Linefork, Kentucky he was the son of John Davis Huff and Nancy Catherine Blair. He married Della Frances Mitcham on February 26, 1955 in Dupont, Indiana. She survives.
Surviving with his wife are a son Kenneth Dean Huff and his wife Cathy; brothers, Loyd Rodney Huff and Lindell Gail Huff both of Linefork, Kentucky, James Waylon Huff of North Vernon, Indiana, Wendell Caleb Huff of Columbus, Indiana, and Dale Keith Huff of London, Kentucky; sisters Ann Gwendolyn Farmer of Crete, Illinois, Grace Detta Parrott of Lynch, Kentucky and Sylvia Allene Foley of Bronston, Kentucky; grandchildren John Edgar Huff of North Vernon and Jessica Renee Floyd and her husband Aaron of Seymour, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence, Elmo and Gary Wallen Huff, sisters, Mae Ison, Monetta Ison, Susie Cornett, Vivian Faye Halcomb.
Opal Kirkham
Opal N. Kirkham, 99, of Franklin, Indiana formerly of North Vernon, Indiana passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 in the late afternoon at the Franklin Methodist Community Home, Franklin, Indiana.
Mrs. Kirkham retired in 1971 after 50 years of Teaching. She taught school at the Scipio, Butlerville and Vernon Elementary Schools here in Jennings County. She was a member of the Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, Vernon Baptist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Chapter. She was a Past Matron and 75 year member of The North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Vernon Baptist Church in Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Thursday, March 7, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Church on Friday, an Eastern Star service will be conducted by members of the North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the Vernon Baptist Church and Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born November 17, 1909 in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Perry C. and Ola F. Ferris Beck. She married Charles Kirkham on June 11, 1941. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1992.
Mrs. Kirkham is survived by Nephews, Robert and Francis Kirkham both of North Vernon, Indiana and David Kirkham of Dupont, Indiana; a niece Carolyn Yates of Lake Mary, Florida and a sister in-law Jane Roane of Mooresville, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter Sharon Kirkham.
George E. Scott
George E. Scott, 67, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 3:24 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Covered Bridge Health Care Facility in Seymour, Indiana.
Mr. Scott retired in 2007 from Enkei in Columbus, Indiana after 14 years. He had worked prior to this at C.W.C. (Textron) as a supervisor for 20 years in Muskegon, Michigan. He was a graduate of Mercer High School in Transfer, Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He enjoyed walking in the woods with his dog "Girl", watching his grandson play baseball and gardening.
The family has requested No Services at this time.
Born September 30, 1941 in Sharon, Pennsylvania he was the son Walter David and Elizabeth Moore Scott. He married Cheryl Cunningham on March 23, 1985 in Muskegon, Michigan. She survives
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Robert (Teresa) Scott of Lesueur, Michigan, James Scott of Los Angeles, California and Gary ( Tara) White of Muskegon, Michigan; three daughters, Syndi L. Scott of St. Petersburg, Florida, Anita (Robert) Peters, Muskegon, Michigan, Kim (Ralph) Layman of North Vernon, Indiana; four brothers; three sisters; ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Phyllis Louise Fitzgibbon
Phyllis Louise Fitzgibbon, 78, of North Vernon passed away at 5:00 a.m. Monday, March 09, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.
Ms. Fitzgibbon was employed by the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital as the Activity Director from 1994-2005, prior to this she was the Activity Director from 1984-1994 at the former Community Care Center in North Vernon, Indiana. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, Indiana, a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Jennings County Democrat Women. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, being with friends, working with flowers and being in her garden,
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp& Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Sweet officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Born August 14, 1930 in Mason, Illinois she was the daughter of Glenn and Ester Smith Ready.
Survivors include three sons, Tim Fitzgibbon of North Vernon, Indiana, Mike (Sylvia) Fitzgibbon of Commiskey, Indiana and Aaron Fitzgibbon of Lafayette, Indiana; three daughters, Jane Spaulding of North Vernon, Indiana, Vickie (Harold) Yerges of Columbus, Indiana and Teresa (Stephen) Graham of Lovett, Indiana; one brother, Darrell (Stella) Ready of Olney, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Thomas Daniel Fitzgibbon, brothers Gary and Robert Ready.
Donald Ray Ritchison
Donald Ray Ritchison, 64, of Paris Crossing, Indiana passed away at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, Indiana
Mr. Ritchison has been employed as a Truck Driver since 2001 for Wal-Mart. Prior to this he was a self-employed Truck Driver. 1963 graduate of Austin High School in Austin, Indiana. Vietnam War Veteran of United States Army, serving in 1965 to 1967. He was a member of Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing, Indiana. American Legion Post in Seymour, Indiana; and a Lifetime Owner/Operator of the Independent Driver Association. He enjoyed watching western movies.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009 at Coffee Creek Christian Church in Paris Crossing with the Pastors Jim Soblotne and Ron McKinney officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Sunday, March 15, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to Funeral at the Church. Surviving with his wife and mother are a son Brian (Rhonda) Ritchison of Scottsburg, Indiana; brother, Lester (Mary) Ritchison of Austin, Indiana; and a grandchild, Maecy Ritchison of Scottsburg, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother James Leroy Ritchison.
Delphie Bales
Delphie Bales, 88, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon, Indiana
Mrs. Bales worked for 8 years for the former Vernon Summer Furniture Factory in Vernon, Indiana more commonly known as the Swing Factory. She attended Freedom School in Grayson County, Kentucky. She enjoyed flowers and working in her garden.
Services will be conducted at 12:00 Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Sorrells officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday March 19, 2009 1 hour prior to service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Born October 30, 1920 in Peonia, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Aflonie and Liza Decker Watson. She married James M. Bales on May 4, 1941 in Leitchfield, Kentucky he preceded her in death on July 28, 1986.
She is survived by her son, Charles L. Bales of Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Carol A. (Joe) Spurlock and Brenda F. (Dick) Stark both of North Vernon, Indiana; brother, Alvie (Marilyn) Watson and sister, Anita Hamilton both of Louisville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Sherri (Jeff) Chasteen of Morrow, Ohio, Mike (Amy) Stark, Lori (Troy) Laman and Brian (Kelly) Spurlock all of North Vernon, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Brandyn Sullivan of Seymour, Indiana, Kyle Stark, Tessa Laman and Peyton Stark all of North Vernon, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by; her parents, her husband and four brothers, James, Delmar, Shelby and Wilbur Watson, and a sister Jerlene Nelson.
Della Mae Masters
Della Mae Couchman Masters, 46, of North Vernon passed away at 5:38 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009 at her residence.
Ms. Masters was employed at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital as an E.R. Clerk for the past 22 years. Prior to this she owned and operated for 13 years Alternatives Beauty Shop in North Vernon. She was a 1981 graduate of Jennings County High School. She attended Southeastern Indiana Vocational School for Cosmetology in Versailles, Indiana. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon. She enjoyed swimming, gardening, cooking, crocheting and making crafts.
Graveside Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Pisgah Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana with the Rev. Dan Corbin officiating. Friends may call on Thursday, March 19, 2009 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Pisgah Cemetery in Deputy, Indiana.
Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County, American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
Born on December 11, 1962 in Seymour, Indiana she was the daughter of the late Donald H. Couchman and Ida J. Nelson Couchman Nowling.
She is survived by her companion Steven Masters ; step-mother, Vonda Shinolt of Edinburgh, Indiana; three brothers, Richard (Julie) Couchman of Madison, Indiana, Howard (Linda) Couchman of North Vernon, Indiana, and a step-brother, George Covey of Seymour, Indiana; sister, Rebecca (Stephen) Jackson of Commiskey, Indiana; two step-sisters Lynne (Chuck) Conrad of Brownstown, Indiana and Lanette Hobbs of Columbus, Indiana; two nieces; four nephews; three step nieces; three step nephews; two great nieces; one great nephew; three step great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Judith Arlene Pettigrew
Judith Arlene Pettigrew, 65, passed away 10:55 p.m. Thursday, March 18, 2009 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mrs. Pettigrew retired in 2000 after 15 years with the Overnite Transportation Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a graduate of Whiteland High School in Whiteland, Indiana. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, gardening and playing with her grandkids.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Richard Burchman officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

Born on November 2, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana she was the daughter of James T. and Olive L. Curtis Dyer. She married Gordon Pettigrew on July 2, 1966 in Marion County, Indiana. He survives.
Survivors include one son, Gregory Dyer, three daughters, Janet (Benny) Yount of Indianapolis, Indiana, Mary (Companion Thomas) Walls of Severance, Kansas, Catherine Abney of Graham, North Carolina; brother David (Betty) Dyer of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Kay (Jimmy) Sink of Florida; six grandchildren, Brandon VanHarn of Pennsylvania, Kaila, Bradley and Cara all of Mooresville, Indiana, Ravin Walls and James T. Walls, of Severance, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, William "Buttons" Pettigrew.
