Jim Nease

Jim Nease, 60, of Commiskey, Indiana passed away at 12:55 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Nease was born on June 20, 1949 in Commiskey, Indiana the son of Dan and Alpha Johnson Nease.

Mr. Nease was a Veteran of the United States Army having served from 1969-1971 during the Vietnam War. He attended North Vernon High School. He was a member of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. and Risen Savior Baptist Church both in North Vernon, Indiana. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and family time.

Survivors include one brother, Jerry Nease and his wife Alice of Commiskey, Indiana; two sisters, Jeanetta Criss of Commiskey, Indiana and Sinda Sergent and her husband Billy of Paris Crossing, Indiana; one nephew, Michael Sergent and his wife Pam of Paris Crossing, Indiana; two nieces, Doris Short and Sue Ross and her husband Mike both of Commiskey, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private Family visitation and funeral service will be held at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Joe Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Coffee Creek Christian Church Cemetery in Paris Crossing, Indiana with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F. W. giving Military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Matt Hester Post #2021, V.F.W. in North Vernon, Indiana.

Evelyn Fae Beesley

Evelyn Fae Beesley, 91, of North Vernon, IN, passed away at 6:28 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at her home.

Mrs. Beesley was born on December 1, 1918 in Madison County, IN. She was the daughter of Lundy and Cecile Hanger Stohler. She was married to Herbert L. Beesley on December 2, 1939 in Westport, IN. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2001.

Mrs. Beesley was a farmer, a homemaker, a housewife, and a lifelong beautician. She enjoyed flowers and traveling. She was a 1937 graduate of Markleville High School in Markleville, IN. She was a former member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church where she a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Missionary Society, a former Red Cross Volunteer, and a member of the Nazarene Church of North Vernon.

Surviving are her 3 sons- Richard Lundy "Bud" (Jeanne) Beesley of North Vernon, IN, Charles William "Bill" (Judy) Beesley of North Vernon, IN, and Robert Lee "Bob" (Karen) Beesley of Westport, IN; 2 Sisters- Mary Greene of North Vernon, IN, and Helen Brown of Daleville, IN; 7 grandchildren- Lana (Chris) Evans of Markleville, IN, Corina (Trent) Buchan of Fort Wayne, IN, Fae (Bill) Harrison, Kim (Ralph) Shatto, and Charles William (Crissy) Beesley, Jr, all of North Vernon, IN, and Todd Robert (Paulina) Beesley and Susan K. (Terry) Payne, both of Westport, IN; 18 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great- Grandchild.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother - Charles Stohler.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Beesley will be Monday, January 4, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Wally Glover officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 3, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery in Vernon, IN.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the Hospice of Jennings County.

Angela Dawn Garland

Angela Dawn Garland, 36, of Paris Crossing, Indiana passed away at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at the Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Mrs. Garland was born on January 16, 1973 in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, the daughter of Robert and Dawinda Warner Miller. She married Jeremy Garland on October 29, 2005 in Paris Crossing, Indiana. He survives.

Mrs. Garland worked at the Wal-Mart store in Madison, Indiana from 2004 until 2005. Prior to this she was employed at the former Big Blue Store in Seymour, Indiana from 1991 until 2004. Mrs. Garland also worked at Jay C Foods Plus in Seymour and for Bullard's Catering in Seymour, Indiana. She was a 1992 Graduate of Brownstown Central High School in Brownstown, Indiana. Her hobbies include photography, working on her computer and scrapbooking.

Surviving with her husband and parents are her brother Troy Miller and his wife Shelly of Panama City, Florida.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Diamond Miller.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday December 30, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Darist McNeely officiating. Burial will be in the First Marion Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to service time on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the Donor's choice.

Richard H. Updike

Richard Houze Updike, 78, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, December 25, 2009 at his residence.

Mr. Updike was born on May 21, 1931 in Westport, Indiana, the son of the late Floyd Updike Sr. and Mary Houze Updike. He married Mary Jo O'Neal on June 25, 1955 in Clarksville, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Updike retired in 1995 after 35 years with Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana where he worked as a machinist. He was a member of Tea Creek Baptist Church in Lovett, Indiana, he had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 57 years joining the Alert Masonic Lodge in Alert, Indiana which consolidated with the Elizabethtown Masonic Lodge, and then moving his membership to the North Vernon Masonic Lodge. He was a graduate of Jackson High School in Decatur County, Indiana. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. His hobbies included gardening, bird watching, being outdoors and spending time with his family.

Surviving with his wife are four sons, Darryl R., Mark N., Jon Michael and Tommy (Tina) Updike all of North Vernon, Indiana; one daughter, Jo Ellen Updike of North Vernon, Indiana; four grandchildren, Chelsea L. Updike of Columbus, Indiana, Ryan W., Jacob N., and Joshua M. Updike all of North Vernon, Indiana; one great-grandchild, Adelynn M. Shinolt of Columbus, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Floyd Updike, Jr.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Anderson officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Members of North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 F.&A.M.; will conduct a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in the Tea Creek Baptist Cemetery in Lovett, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County.

Marjorie Louise Marshall

Marjorie Louise Marshall, 77, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 12:37 a.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the home of her daughter in Nashville, Indiana.

Mrs. Marshall was born on December 4, 1932 in Junction City, Kentucky, the daughter of Lyons and Alma Shoemaker Sallee. She married Gerald Marshall on May 3, 1951 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He preceded her death on August 28, 1997.

Mrs. Marshall was a devoted mother and wife. She was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Vernon, Indiana, where she was baptized on March 17, 1947. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, church activities and her grandchildren.

Survivors include her two sons, Rick Marshall of Cleveland, Tennessee, Jeff (Kris) Marshall of Dalton, Georgia; three daughters, Joyce Marshall and Teresa Marshall both of Greensburg, Indiana and Jan (Wade) Reder of Nashville, Indiana; three sisters, Jean Vance-Welsh of North Vernon, Indiana, Ann Johnson of Woodbury, Tennessee and Judy Kemp of Atlanta, Georgia; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, James Sallee and William Sallee.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in North Vernon, Indiana with the Pastor's Manuel Ojeda and Gary Case officiating. The Family would like to invite Friends to join them for a time of fellowship at the Church after the service. A private burial is planned. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana

Lilian Rose Carmer

Lilian Rose Hall Carmer, 73, of rural Dupont died at 5:22 a.m., Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Hospice of South Central Indiana In-Patient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Carmer was well known in the community and had worked at the North Vernon Plain Dealer and Sun for over fifty-two years. At the time of her death she was Assistant Editor, with specific responsibilities for the Court House News and the One Hundred Years Ago column. She was formerly employed by the Jefferson Proving Grounds.

Born March 28, 1936 in Jefferson County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Perry and Florence Merle Buchanan Hall. She married William Franklin Carmer on June 6, 1953 at the Vernon Presbyterian Church Parsonage. He preceded her in death on September 17, 1997.

Survivors include three nieces, Cheryl (Randy) Boggs, Connie (Michael) Ochs, and Diana (Tom) Taylor, all of North Vernon and numerous extended family members.

Mrs. Carmer was an active member of the Graham Baptist Church of San Jacinto. She was instrumental in forming the Jennings County Preservation Association and the movement of the Walnut Grove School to the Muscatatuck County Park. A holder of numerous awards from the National Newspaper Association and the Women's Press Club of Indiana, she was active and held various offices in the Jennings County Historical Society, the Clionian Society, the Republican Women, the Jefferson Proving Ground Preservation Association, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and other organizations. She served on the Jennings County Alcohol and Tobacco Board and Historic Hoosier Hills. She was a graduate of Dupont High School, in Dupont, Indiana.

Mrs. Carmer had an active and inquisitive mind with special interests in photography, historic preservation, genealogy, fishing, gardening, and animal rescue.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Audrey Brown

Her funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Harting and Richard L. Burcham, officiating, Tom Taylor will deliver eulogy. Calling is from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Graham Baptist Church or Mercy Rescue & Adoption, Inc.

William Roscoe Cox

William Roscoe "Rocky" Cox, 52, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:10 am on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon.

Mr. Cox was born on August 16, 1957 in Scottsburg, Indiana to the late Billy Gene Cox & Bertha Ritchie Sanders.

Mr. Cox had worked as a telecommunications contractor for approximately 18 years retiring in 2008. He was a 1975 graduate of Columbus North High School in Columbus, Indiana. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, & cooking.

Mr. Cox married Nina Ni on December 4, 1997 in Carrollton, Kentucky.

Survivors include his wife, Nina & 1 son-Cody Lin Cox, both of North Vernon; step-mother, Nancy Cox of Columbus, Indiana; 5 brothers-Karl (Mary) Cox & Mark (Dena) Sanders both of North Vernon; Rodney Cox of Taylorsville, Indiana; Adrian Sanders of Greenwood, Indiana, & Robert Sanders of Englewood, Florida; 2 sisters-Cindy (James) Greenwell of Nabb, Indiana & Alicia Sanders of North Vernon; two step-sisters, Mary Jane (Gary) Gossett and Sally Asheford both of Columbus, Indiana & several nieces & nephews.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon with the Rev. Patrick Harrigan officiating. Friends may call from 4-8 pm on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 & 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Cody Lin Cox Scholarship Fund to be established.
