Wanda Lou Foist

Wanda Lou Foist, 66, of Scipio, Indiana passed away at 11:25 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.

Mrs. Foist was born on August 11, 1943 in Seymour, Indiana the daughter of Fred W. and Margaret Lucille Barnes Grizard. She married William "Bill" Foist on July 24, 1965 at Bear Creek Baptist Church in Jennings County, Indiana. He survives

Mrs. Foist was a former Teacher at Richards Elementary School in Columbus, Indiana, and South Side Elementary in North Vernon, Indiana for 7 years and was a substitute Teacher at Scipio Elementary retiring in 1994. She was a 1961 graduate of North Vernon High School and went on to receive an Elementary Education degree from Ball State University in 1965; she went on to receive her Master's in Education. She was a attended of Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio, Indiana and Delta Kappa Gamma (Teacher Sorority). Her hobbies included gardening, taking walks in the woods, bird watching, collecting arrowheads, reading, playing card games and working crossword puzzles.

Surviving with her husband are, one son Matthew (Elia Soto) Foist of North Vernon, Indiana; three brothers, Sammy (Gabriele) Grizard of North Vernon, Indiana, Gary (Anna) Grizard of Seneca, South Carolina and Fred ( Marilyn ) Grizard of St. Peters, Missouri; one sister, Margaret Brown of North Vernon, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Scipio Presbyterian Church in Scipio, Indiana with the Rev. Mitch Coggin officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Monday, February 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the Scipio Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Scipio Presbyterian Church Women's Society.

James E. Grant

James E. Grant, 81, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away at 9:35 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Tidewell Hospice Facility in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Mr. Grant was born on June 19, 1928 in Butlerville, Kentucky the son of Ollie and Mae Moore Grant. He married Virginia Roller on September 9, 2006 in, in Port Charlotte, Florida. She survives.

Mr. Grant worked in Road Construction for Gallagher Asphalt in Illinois. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 1948 graduate of Vernon High School. He was a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #1133 in Argo-Summit, Illinois. He was a member of Elks Lodge #2763, American Legion Post #110, ; Veterans of Foreign Wars #5690, and The Berean Baptist Church all in Port Charlotte, Florida and a member of the Moose Lodge in both Port Charlotte, Florida and in Illinois ; he formerly attended the 1st Congregation Church in Argo-Summit, Illinois.

Surviving with his wife Virginia are one son, James R. Grant of Tinley Park, Illinois; one daughter, Suzanne Sanders of Tampa, Florida; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters Ruth Triani of Port Richey, Florida and Wilma Harris of Kokomo, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his 1st wife, Emma Jane McDowell Grant; five sisters, Louise Wilkerson, Millie Tyler, Marcella Peacock, Rosanna Fry and Helen Coombs.

Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Don Morris officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the Vernon Baptist Church or the Berean Baptist Church of Port Charlotte, Florida.

Nellie Marie Luers

Marie Luers, 82, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mrs. Luers was born on February 8, 1927 in Clifford, Indiana the daughter of John and Loretta Scott Misner. She married Carl Luers in April of 1971 in Osgood, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1994.

Mrs. Luers worked as an attendant for 15 years at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center in Butlerville, Indiana retiring in 1971. She had previously worked for 2 years at Thompson Industries in North Vernon and 3 years with Arvin Industries in Columbus, Indiana. She attended Scipio School. Her hobbies included playing bingo.

Survivors include three daughters, Rosa Ann (Don) Divine, Mary (Ransam Caldwell) McCoy both of North Vernon, Indiana and Betty Pike of Commiskey, Indiana; three step-daughters, Wanda (E.C.) Eberts of North Vernon, Indiana, Joyce Kinnear of Scipio, Indiana and Betty (David) Forkert of Florida; eleven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; twenty-one step great-grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren and five step great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband, Kenneth Barnes, 2nd husband, Carl Luers, three brothers, Clifford, Lawrence and Wallace Misner; one sister, Opal Campfield; and one grandson, Brien Barnes.

Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Finks Cemetery in Osgood, Indiana with the Rev. David Shivers. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Charles Edward Cardinal

Charles Edward Cardinal, 84, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus, Indiana.

Mr. Cardinal was born on January 6, 1926 in North Vernon, Indiana the son of William McKinley and Bessie Hartwell Cardinal. He married Bonnie Smith on March 12, 1952 in North Vernon, Indiana. She survives.

Mr. Cardinal worked for the North Vernon Sanitation Department for 39 years retiring in 1991. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1944 to 1945. He attended North Vernon High School. He attended Queensville Community Church. His hobbies included collecting scrap metal, hunting, fishing, his cats and bird watching, but most of all he loved his family time.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, Ernest (Diane) Cardinal and John A. Wade both of North Vernon, Indiana; three daughters, Joyce (Butch) Day, Sharon Webb and Betty ( Tim) Beineke all of North Vernon, Indiana; fourteen grandchildren, Robert (Tammy) Hempstead and Cheryl Wade both of Columbus, Indiana, Nad (Kim) Day, Michelle Logan, Brittany Webb, Adam (Allana) Webb, Jason (Val) McClanahan, Steve (Carrie) Beineke, Tiffany (Steve) Wathen, Melissa (Aaron) Brown, Tina (Chris) Bower, Jeremie (Michele) Cardinal, Bonnie Lynn (Alan) Blessing and Brian (Robin) Hempstead all of North Vernon, Indiana; forty two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert Cardinal; two daughters, Melvie Hempstead and Mae Cardinal; one grandson, Doug Day and a granddaughter, Tammy Durham.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. William Ramey officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to service on Friday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F. W. providing military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Hospice of Jennings County.

Carol J. Koning

Carol J. "Smith" Koning, 64, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 2:44 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon, Indiana.

Ms. Koning was born March 22, 1945 in Russell County, Kentucky the daughter of Jesse and Inez Criswell Kell.

Ms. Koning was a homemaker. She attended Columbia High School in Columbia, Kentucky. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Salem, Indiana and United Methodist Church in Canton, Indiana. Her hobbies included playing cards, going to yard sales and spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her daughter, Tonya (Jimmy) Lester of North Vernon, Indiana; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Jesse, Daniel, Kaiya Lester all of North Vernon, Indiana and Cody and Jared Lester both of Richland, Virginia; one great grandson, Landen Lester of North Vernon, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Douglas Smith.

A private Memorial service will be held at a later late. In keeping with Ms. Koning wishes cremation is planned. Arrangements were in the care of the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana.

Teresa Dianne Sullivan

Teresa Dianne Sullivan, 48, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mrs. Sullivan was born on November 5, 1961 at Stuart Air Force Base in Smyrna, Tennessee the daughter of Clarence D. and Emma D. Robertson Stephens of North Vernon, Indiana. She married Ron Sullivan on July 8, 1989 in Pekin, Indiana. He survives.

Mrs. Sullivan worked for Ivy Tech in Columbus, Indiana as assessment tester and in the computer lab for approximately 12 years retiring in 2005. She was a 1979 Graduate of Salem High School in Salem, Indiana. She was a member of Christ's Way Christian Church in North Vernon, Indiana. Her hobbies included scrapbooking and her son's activities.

Surviving with her husband and parents are; two sons, Johnathan (Christina) Mull and Ronnie Sullivan both of North Vernon, Indiana; one brother, Michael (Lilo) Stephens of Arlington, Virginia; one granddaughter, Olivia Mull of North Vernon, Indiana.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the Christ's Way Christian Church with the Rev. Dan Denny officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, January 22, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, Indiana.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to Disabled American Veterans.

Mary E. Bland

Mary E. Bland, 81, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010 at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mary was born on March 30, 1928 in North Vernon, Indiana the daughter of John and Bess Deppe Clarkson. She married Robert Earl Bland on January 6, 1949 in North Vernon, Indiana. He preceded her in death on September 1, 2009.

Mary was the employed with the Republic Newspaper in Columbus Indiana for 35 years. She was the District Manager for Jennings County retiring in 1999. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and Jennings County Republican Women where she served as Past Chairman all in North Vernon, Indiana. She was a former member Delta Theta Tau Sorority, North Vernon Chapter #183, Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed cleaning, attending her grandkids activities and Jennings County Panther Sports.

Mary is survived by two sons, Robert "Bob" (Cindy Smith) Bland of North Vernon, Indiana, Donn "De" (Margie) Bland of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Sue (Rick) Bright of North Vernon, Indiana and Traci (Marty) Johnson of Greenwood, Indiana; one brother, Francis (Madine) Clarkson of Morgantown, Kentucky; one sister, Betty Voss of North Vernon, Indiana; nine grandchildren; Justin (Sasha) Bland, Matthew Bland, Jacob Bland, Erica (Chad) Speer and Rikki Bright all of North Vernon, Indiana; Caleb (Melissa) Stone and Sarah (Matthew) Payne of Houston, Texas, Kyle and Morgan Johnson of Greenwood, Indiana; three great-grandchildren, Ethan Speer and Logan Conner Bland of North Vernon, Indiana, Peyton Stone of Houston, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, William and Allen Clarkson.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev's Marvin Sweet and Kendall Wildey officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the Church. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Kidney Foundation or Hospice of Jennings County.

Anita Kathleen Day

Anita Kathleen Day, 64, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 7:10 a.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010 at her residence in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mrs. Day was born on November 29, 1945 in Paris Crossing, Indiana the daughter of Conrad and Georgia Carter Hensley. She married Robert L. Day on November 3, 1985 in Vernon, Indiana. He preceded her in death on May 7, 2006.

Mrs. Day had worked as a Security Officer for Toyota in Walesboro, Indiana for 2 years retiring in 2005, she had previously worked for ASI Security in Columbus, Indiana. She attended schools in Paris Crossing and North Vernon. Her hobbies include crocheting, needlepoint and playing on the computer.

Mrs. Day is survived by two daughters, Kathy Viles of North Vernon, Indiana and Kim (Bill) Powless of Medora, Indiana; one sister, Bonnie (Arnold) Greene of North Vernon, Indiana; four grandchildren, Amanda Manning of Columbus, Indiana, Rusty Sheley of Medora, Indiana, Rickey Viles, Jr. and Kristina Viles both of North Vernon, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Vernon Cemetery with the Rev. Marsha Rodenberger officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home for Funeral Expenses.
