Curtis C. Spratt

Curtis Clayton "Jack" Spratt, 75, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 8:28 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2010 at Columbus Regional Hospital in Columbus, Indiana.

Mr. Spratt was born on January 27, 1935 in Pontiac, Michigan the son of Charles Vernal and Margaret Elizabeth Bigger Spratt. He married Armilda J. "Mitzie" Bishop on March 4, 1961 in Exeter, California. She survives.

Mr. Spratt retired from Muscatatuck County Park in 2005 after 9 years as campground host. He had previously worked with the United States Military as a Civil Service employee on computer retiring after 20 years. He was a 20 year Veteran of the United States Army having served from 1956 until 1976; he served two tours in Vietnam. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sierra Vista Post #9972. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, reading and table games, camping and being outdoors.

Surviving with his wife are two sons, James Curtis Spratt of North Vernon, Indiana, Charles Vernal (Mary Ellen) Spratt of Sierra Vista, Arizona; a daughter, Theresa Lynn Oblak of North Vernon, Indiana; one brother, Guy Arthur "Skip" (Jeanne) Spratt of Toledo, Washington; six grandchildren, Christopher Alan Oblak of North Vernon, Indiana, Dorothy Jeanne (Nathan) Gaines of Portageville, Missouri, Victoria Rose Spratt of Boise, Idaho, Jeremiah Patrick, Mariah Ashley and Josalyn K. Spratt all of Sierra Vista, Arizona; six great-grandchildren, Carter A. and Jailynn N. Oblak both of North Vernon, Indiana, James W., Levin C., Tristan S. and Solstyn C. Gaines all of Portageville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Kenneth Nelson Smith officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery with members of Matt Hester Post #2021 V.F. W. providing Military graveside rites.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Cancer Society.

Allan James Runyan

Allan James Runyan, 50, of Eureka, California formerly of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 in Eureka, California.

Mr. Runyan was born August 30, 1959 in Seymour, Indiana the son of Allan James and Shirley Runyan Marksberry.

Mr. Runyan worked in construction all his life; he had worked for J. C. Gibson Construction Company in Scipio, Indiana and for Kemper Construction in Columbus, Indiana. He was a 1977 graduate of Jennings County High School. His hobbies included fishing, traveling, meeting new people and riding motorcycles.

Surviving with his parents are one brother, Steve Marksberry of North Vernon, Indiana; two sisters, Jamie (Kenis) Cornett and Charlene (Ron) Sproles both of North Vernon, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, J.W. Marksberry, his grandparents.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Hadley officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, February 19, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in the Baldwin Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home for funeral expenses.

Delmar Arthur Franks

Delmar Arthur Franks, 68, of Vernon, Indiana passed away at 11:19 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 in Jennings County, Indiana as the result of traffic accident.

Mr. Franks was born on April 15, 1941 in Delaware County, Indiana the son of Andrew and Thelma Eppard Franks. He married Janice Beesley Lovitt on December 5, 2008 at Queensville Community Church. She passed away in the same accident.

Mr. Franks worked on the Assembly line at Cummins Engine Company in Columbus, Indiana for 30 years retiring in 1999. He had previously worked for 5 years for North Vernon Forge; and his first job was with the Jay-C Store for 4 years. He attended Vernon School. He was a former member of the North Vernon Moose lodge and attended Queensville Community Church. His hobbies included playing bingo, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include a son, Robert Franks of Seymour, Indiana; a daughter, Lisa (Lee) Booker of Bedford, Indiana; 1st wife, Linda Garrity of Commiskey, Indiana; four brothers, Tom (Blanch) Franks of Vernon, Indiana, William (Barbara) Franks, Raymond (June) Franks and Larry Franks all of North Vernon, Indiana; four sisters, Virginia (Donald) Clark, Peggy (Richard) Hudson, Nancy (Robert) Perry and Linda Fletcher all of North Vernon, Indiana; two sister-in-laws, Martha and Patricia Franks both of North Vernon, Indiana; four grandchildren, Ambrosa and Joey Franks of Seymour, Indiana, Mindy Cornett and Kevin Grigsby both of Vernon, Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Hillary Franks of Seymour, Indiana and Malik Cornett of Vernon, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, James, Jack, Jerry, Robert and George Franks.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev's William Ramey and Edward Wooddell officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

Janice LaVone Franks

Janice LaVone "Lovitt" Franks, 72, of Vernon, Indiana passed away at 11:19 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010 as the result of a traffic accident.

Mrs. Franks was born on September 29, 1937 in Brewersville, Indiana, the daughter of Minor and Virgie Hartwell Beesley. She married her first husband, Dan C. Lovitt on November 4, 1955. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1991. She married her 2nd husband, Delmar Arthur Franks on December 5, 2008 at Queensville Community Church. He passed away in the same accident.

Mrs. Franks worked for 19 years at Valeo Sylvania in Seymour, Indiana retiring in 2008; she had previously worked for GECOM for 2 years. She received her GED from Shelbyville High School. She was a member of Queensville Community Church. Her hobbies included playing bingo, crocheting, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include one son, Allen (Shanna) Lovitt of North Vernon, Indiana; four daughters, Rhonda (Tracy) Fields, Vickie D. (Robert) McDaniel both of North Vernon, Indiana, Cindy (Dean) Wagner of St. Paul, Indiana, and Danita Voorhies, of Saginaw, Michigan; three sisters, Phyllis Machino of Seymour, Indiana, Margaret Leonard and Joyce (George) Nentrup of Columbus, Indiana, rose McDonald of Florida; two sister-in-laws, Margaret and Wanda Beesley, thirteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Kenneth, Frank and Earl Beesley; sisters, Beatrice Griffin and Jean Mize.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev's William Ramey and Edward Wooddell officiating. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Scipio Cemetery.

Clara Dee Coffman Kirsch

Clara Dee Coffman Kirsch, 101, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Jennings Healthcare Center in North Vernon, Indiana.

Mrs. Kirsch was born on August 5, 1908 in Reno, Indiana the daughter of Walter E. and Mary Pritchett Fritsche. She married her first husband James Coffman on June 28, 1927. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1973. She married her second husband, Chester W. Kirsch on June 4, 1988. He preceded her in death on April 8, 1991.

Mrs. Kirsch worked 20 years as a factory worker for Arvins in North Vernon, Indiana, retiring in 1970. She attended Coatesville Schools in Coatesville, Indiana. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon, Indiana. And she was a former member of the Home Economics Club, Grandmothers Club, Golden Seniors, Jennings County Seniors and Redmon's Lodge all of North Vernon, Indiana. Mrs. Kirsch loved to travel.

Surviving is a son, James Robert (Saundra) Coffman of North Vernon, Indiana; a daughter, Ruth (Leroy) Reitman of North Vernon, Indiana; eleven grandchildren, Michael (Sandra) Reitman, Paul (Darla) Reitman, James "Ed" (Vickie) Reitman and Phillip Reitman all of North Vernon, Indiana, Kathryn (Mike) Phillips of Hartsville, Indiana, Linda (Louis) Cribb of Middleburg, Florida, David (Beverly) Johnson of Reno, Nevada, Patricia (Mike) Nash of Independence, California, John (Janet) Reitman of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Leanna (Rex) Maschino of Somerset, Kentucky and Susan (Greg) Streit of Columbus, Indiana; 24 Great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her first husband James Coffman and her second husband, Chester W. Kirsch.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at Dove- Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon, Indiana with the Rev. Marvin Sweet officiating. Friends may call at the Dove- Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home to 1st United Methodist Building Fund.

Rita Jane Wanstrath, 86

Rita Jane Wanstrath, 86, of Batesville, passed away May 26, 2009 at the University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Sr. Mary Rachel Schulte O.S.F., 91

Sr. Mary Rachel Schulte O.S.F., 91, of the Srs. of St. Francis in Oldenburg, passed away Tuesday June 16, 2009 at the convent.

Born July 20, 1917, in Cincinnati, she was the daughter of Mary (Berlier) and Joseph Schulte.

She entered the convent Dec. 28, 1937 and made her final vows Aug. 12, 1943. Sr. Mary Rachel was a teacher at St. Leo’s School in Cincinnati and in 1946 became registrar at Marian College in Indianapolis. She served as registrar until 1986 when she became an assistant in the Dean’s Office. In 1993, she returned to the Motherhouse, assisting in the community archives office before retiring in 2004.

Sr. Mary Rachel is survived by her sister, Mary Dolores Schulte, Cincinnati; brother, Joe Schulte, Okeana, Ohio, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sisters Rose Marie Victor, Lucille Schulte, Angela Klensch and brother Urban Schulte.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 19 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Oldenburg. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Srs. of St. Francis, P.O. Box 100, Oldenburg, IN 47036.
