Allen Barr
(January 17, 1918 - June 13, 2012)

Allen Barr, 94 of Columbus passed away Wednesday June 12, 2012 at Kindred Care of Columbus. Mr. Barr had worked at Farmers Co-op in Columbus and was a member of Burnsville Christian Church. The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home at Hope with Rev. Dan Shaw officiating. Calling hours will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Born in Bartholomew County on January 17, 1918, Mr. Barr was the son of Orvy and Nettie Kurts Barr. He married Melva Vanest on Aug. 15, 1937 and she survives. Survivors include a son- in-law John Bayless of Glasgow, Ky.; granddaughter Heather (Garrett) Bowling of Newburgh, grandson John (Beth) Bayless of Oshkosh, WI.; great grandchildren Morgan, Kathie, Nathan, Brooke and Matthew; brothers Kenneth Barr of Kansas City and Norman Barr of Columbus. Mr. barr was preceded in death by a daughter Juanita Barr; brother Lester and Alvin Barr and sisters Ruth Skinner and Irene Schaub.

Dale F. Miller
(March 6, 1926 - September 2, 2012)

Dale F. Miller, 86 of Columbus died Sunday Sept. 2, 2012 at Hospice of Central Indiana.

Mr. Miller retired as a parts mounter in 1988 from Cummins Engine Co. He had been a member of First Baptist Church in Hope and also had attended Columbus Baptist Church. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U. S. Navy. He was also a member of the Diesel Workers Union and loved to fish and hunt.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. on also on Thursday from 10: 00 a.m. until service time. Burial with military rites will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana, American Lung Cancer Soc., Volunteers in Medicine or donor's choice of charities.

Born in Hope on March 6, 1926, he was the son of Clarence and Leota Cohee Miller. He married Carol Braunagel on Oct. 28, 1966 and she survives

Other survivors include a son Barton C. (Linda) Miller of Hope; daughter Sereta J. (Fredrick) Andrews of Nashville; step daughters Janet L. Enochs of Columbus, Peggy L. (Dean) Lane of Hope, Lorraine Brooks and Kathy (Glenn) Cox both of Columbus, step son Michael (Betty) Kelly of Columbus; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents.

Katherine "Kate" Perry Miller
(June 15, 1973 - August 14, 2012)

Katherine "Kate" Perry Miller, 39, of Columbus, went to her heavenly home August 14, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Mrs. Miller was born in Bartholomew County on June 15, 1973. She is survived by her husband, Robert Kevin Miller; her parents, Richard L. and Anita M. Fortmeyer Perry of Columbus; her brothers, Daniel "Mack" Perry of Columbus and Joshua Lain Perry of Elizabethtown; nephews, Blaine Daniel Mack Perry of Columbus and Cody Robert Miller of Columbus; nieces, Catie Ellen and Celsie Michelle Miller, both of Hope; a brother-in-law, Ronald Lee Miller of Taylorsville; and a godchild, Cooper Perry Lykins of Hope

Kate recently had been employed by Hospice of South Central Indiana. She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church in Columbus and was also attending St. Peter's Lutheran Church and had a close relationship with her Lord. Kate had been active in 4-H in her younger years. Her interests included art, cooking, hunting and helping on the family farm with her dad, brothers and husband Bob. She could be found wherever her Dad was working, whether handing him bolts for corn bin construction, putting up hay or disking in the springtime.

Kate loved her and her husband Bob's new country place and she enjoyed making a home for him. She enjoyed very much their trips to Florida and loved her family and spent as much time as possible with them. Her nieces and nephews were very dear to her heart. She cherished her friendship with Becky, whom she called her "sister."

The funeral will be conducted at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 719 Fifth St., on Monday, August 20, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Calling will be Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home in Hope and also on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery

Memorials contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, Bartholomew County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or St. Peter's Lutheran School.

Kate was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Perry and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Fortmeyer; her mother-in-law, Martha Miller; and a great-aunt, Wilma Thomas.

Eary Paul Taylor
(July 28, 1921 - July 7, 2012)

Eary Paul Taylor 90 formerly of Hope, Indiana and a recent resident of Park Side Court Assisted Living in Columbus passed away at 2:45 am July 7, 2012 at Silver Oaks Health Campus also in Columbus.

Paul was born July 28, 1921 in Adair County, Kentucky, the son of Edward Burtrom and Leo Bell Roach Taylor. On June 27, 1942 he married Carrie Merle Burris before departing to serve in WWII in the Medical Core. He saw heavy military action in many historical battles across Europe before returning to what was to become a family of five children with his wife Carrie Taylor, wife and mother for 61 years, she preceded him in death on November 12, 2003.

All five children survive and they are; Paul Russell (Gloria) Taylor of Columbus, Donnie Ray (Kristina) Taylor of Brown County, Lois (Jay) Johnson of Columbus, Joyce (Ken) Gillaspy of Crothersville and Steven Wade Taylor of Columbus. Other family members include fourteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren due in September and siblings, Margie Madison, Velna Altman and Delsie Rogers all of Louisville, Jay B. Taylor of Chicago and Ella Dee Rush of Edmonton, Ky and seven half brothers and sisters.

Paul worked at Cosco/Doral in Columbus from 1952 until his retirement in 1984. Early retirement from factory work allowed him to pursue his passion for ministering the Gospel of Jesus Christ for almost thirty years. Many churches in Indiana and Kentucky have welcomed Paul to preach sermons, conduct weddings and facilitate funerals during his pastoral years. He was a member of the Lowell General Baptist Church and the Hope American Legion at the time of his death.

In Paul's leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, and growing a large vegetable garden each summer until moving to Columbus after the death of his wife. He will be remembered by friends and family for his story telling of hard times during the depression and how as a young boy of ten and the oldest of seven, he was responsible for helping his dad provide for his sisters and brother following the early death of their mother. He is remembered by his sons and daughters and their children for his laugh and knee slapping when telling funny stories about people he grew up around. He will also be remembered for his concern for the salvation of every soul he was blessed to come into contact with.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Nancy Dotson of Chicago. Funeral arrangements for Paul and Carrie Taylor were made with their close friend, John Norman of Norman Funeral Home in Hope.

Paul's funeral service will be Tuesday July 10 at 3:00 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Glenn Poynter officiating. Visitation hours are set for Monday from 4-8 pm and Tuesday from 2:00 until service time at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Hawcreek Baptist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be donated to Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility or Lowell General Baptist Church.

Mary Louise Harper
(September 3, 1931 - September 23, 2012)

Mary Louise Harper, 81 formally of Hope, IN passed away Sunday September 23, 2012 at the home of her daughter in Zion, IL. She was a member of Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and being with family and friends. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 am at Hawcreek Missionary Baptist Church in Hope with Pastor Daniel Bragg officiating. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 - 8 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Memorial contributions may be donated to Alzheimer's Foundation through the funeral home. Born September 3, 1931 in Edmonton, Ky., Mary Louise was the daughter of Henry and Katie Pauline (Froedge) Compton. She married Gordon D. Harper November 14, 1945 and he preceded her in death October 1, 1981. Survivors include; sons, Bill (Becky) Harper of Columbus, Danny (Bonita) Harper of Columbus, Ricky (Liz) Harper of Columbus and Douglas Harper of Hartsville; a daughter, Joyce (Cookie) Stroup of Zion, IL; twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild. Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gordon, Howard and Paul Compton; a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Wilson Harper, and 3 great granddaughters.

Dorothy M. Allen
(September 19, 1928 - July 5, 2012)

Dorothy M. Allen 83, of Greensburg passed away Thursday July 5, 2012 Silver Oaks Health Campus. Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a farm wife. She was a member of Hartsville Baptist Church and Hi Neighbor Home Ec. Club. She also love to read and sew, paint and fish. The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Tim Tallent officiating. Calling hours will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be Bear Creek Cemetery. Born in Corpus Christi, TX on Sept. 19, 1928, she was the daughter of Harry and Eunice Rudicel Dunkelbarger. She married Lee Allen on Dec. 6, 1947 and he survives. Other survivors include daughters Pamela (Robert) Crussel of Greensburg, and Kathy (Danny) Summers of Columbus; grandchildren Sean ( Audra) McNear of Columbus, Nathan ( Bridget) Crussel of Hamilton, Ohio and Mike Crussel of Greensburg and great grandchildren Olivia, Keller, and Layla McNear and Holden Crussel, sisters Shirley Schwartzkopf of Columbus, Ruth (Alvin ) Roberts of Hartsville and Carol Swegman of Columbus. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John and Eugene Dunkelbarger and a sister Lois Dunkelbarger.

Kayla N Hobbs
(December 18, 1991 - July 27, 2012)

Kayla N. Hobbs, 20 of North Vernon died Friday July 27, 2012 at St Vincent Jennings Hospital. A celebration of Kayla's life will be held Friday August 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Vernon Baptist Church Gymnasium in Vernon. Memorials may given to Kayla's mother Sheila Hobbs to help with her funeral expenses. Kayla always wore mismatched socks, so in her honor her family is asking that everyone wear mismatched socks to the celebration. Kayla also loved music and to go to concerts Born in Roswell, N.M. on Dec. 18, 1991 she was the daughter of Sheila Hobbs of North Vernon. Other survivors include an sister Ashley Hobbs of North Vernon, grandmothers Donna Hobbs of North Vernon and Peggy Griffin of Farmington, N.M.; uncles Tony Hobbs of Houston, Robert Hobbs of Idaho, Dennis Hobbs of North Vernon and Brian Hobbs of Connecticut, Shannon Frear and Matthew Hobbs of north Vernon; aunts Teresa Johnson and Kathy Hobbs of Idaho and Leah Hobbs of Columbus; nephew Landyn Porter, of North Vernon and a brother-in- Neil Brown of North Vernon Kayla was preceded in death by grandfather Kenneth Hobbs and her baby Aiden Hobbs.

Donald Dean "Don" McClure
(June 5, 1937 - September 24, 2012)

Donald Dean "Don" McClure, 75, of Columbus, died Monday Sept. 24, 2012 at Kindred Health Care of Columbus.

Don retired from Cummins Engine Co. after 19 years of service. He was an Indiana, Butler and Notre Dame basketball fan, a NASCAR fan, a member of Columbus Moose Lodge and loved gardening and raising roses.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Garland Brook Cemetery with Rev. Larry Rowe officiating. Calling will be at Norman Funeral Home in Hope on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Born in Columbus on June 5, 1937, Don was the son of Leo and Dorothy Sims McClure.

Survivors include children, Jeffrey (Judy) McClure, Christy (Kip) Hull and Janice Ryle (Derek Cornn), all of Greensburg; grandchildren, Lena Miles, Jessica McClure, Tim McClure, Dillon Ryle and Lexi Ryle; a great-grandson, Gavin Miles; a sister, Chloe (Mike) Williams of Greensburg; and a brother, Rick McClure of California.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Junior and Kenneth McClure.

Ida Doris Watson
(May 1, 1940 - June 8, 2012)

Ida Doris Watson, 72 of Hope died Friday June 8, 2012 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mrs. Watson was a homemaker and a member of Hope Community Church Of God. The funeral will be at 5:00p.m. Sunday at Hope Community Church Of God with Mrs.Watson's nephew Rev. Gerald Hancock officiating.Calling hours be Sunday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until service time. An another service will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Hickey & Son Funeral Home in Monticello, Ky with calling on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Dishman Cemetery in Slick Ford, Ky. Norman Funeral Home is in charge of services. Born in Wayne County, Ky. on May 1, 1940 Mrs.Watson was the daughter of Mert and Florence Dishman Hancock. She first married Edward "Doc" Stinson and he preceded her in death. She then married Roy Watson and he also preceded her in death. Survivors include son Jimmie Stinson of Hope and a daughter Becky Lawson of Shelbyville; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers Guy and Earl Hancock; sisters Gladys Roy, Lois Piercy, Eva Jones, Chris Neat and Bonnie Claywell. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by a son Donnie Lee Stinson; parents; brothers Fred and Carl Hancock and sisters Glenna and Bessie Hancock and Hazel Fulton.

Ruth S. Andrews
(February 16, 1922 - October 3, 2012)

Ruth S. Andrews, 90 of Hope died Wednesday Oct. 3, 2012 at Willow Crossing Health Center in Columbus.

Mrs. Andrews was a member of Flat Rock Eastern Star and a W.W. II Army Veteran.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Marvin Arnett officiating. Calling will be Friday from 1: 00 p.m until service time. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Flat Rock Eastern Star though Norman Funeral Home 604 Main St. Hope, IN. 47246.

Born in Ravenna, Ohio, Mrs. Andrews was the daughter of John and Julia Clark.

She married George Curtis Andrews on July 6, 1946 and he survives.

Also surviving are children Karen S. Andrews of Jamestown, Charles E. (Teri) Andrews of Fort Wayne and George C. Andrews, Jr. of Indianapolis and grandchildren Charles C. Andrews of Fort Wayne and David Andrews of Monterey, CA. and a brother John Clark of Ravenna, Ohio.

Mrs. Andrews was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth Andrews, sisters Iona Brikles, Helen Clark and Norma Brown.
