Dorothy Mae Robertson
Dorothy Mae Robertson, 90 of Hope passed away Sunday June 24, 2012 at Hospice Of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Robertson was a member of Hope Moravian Church, Kola Class, Past Worthy Matron of Esther Chapter of Eastern Star, Past President of Phi Beta Psi Sorority, Hope American Legion Aux., American Business Womens Assoc., Disabled American Veterans Aux., Den Mother for Cub Scouts and board member for boys Demolay and Rainbow Girls.
Mrs. Robertson loved cooking, reading and crossword puzzles.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 pm. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Van Orden and Kenneth Chandler officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Born in Hope, In. Sept. 22, 1921, Mrs. Robertson was the daughter of Albert and Edith Patterson Burnes. She married Donald "Bud" Robertson on Sept. 4, 1941 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2004.
Survivors include sons Gary (Joyce) Robertson of Columbus and Ronald D (Freida) Robertson Of Hope; grandchildren Jeremy (Rachel) Robertson of Huxley, Iowa, Wendy Robertson Cain of Columbus, Brad (Kelli) Robertson of Greenwood, Randy (Diane) Robertson and Cory (Jen) Robertson both of Indianapolis: eleven great grandchildren; brother Kenneth (Cathy) Burnes of Columbus and four nieces and two nephews.
Mrs. Robertson was preceded in death by her parents, husband son Gerald, sister Marie Tetrick and brothers Clinton and James Burnes and a granddaughter Candy Renee Robertson.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Carmelita M. Shields
Carmelita M. Shields, 102 of Bloomington, formerly of Hope died Sunday Oct 7, 2012 at Meadowood Retirement Center in Bloomington.
Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Hope High School and Indiana University. She taught school in Bloomington and Bartholomew Co. for 38 years. She was also a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Kappa Kappa Sigma and Delta Kappa Gamma and Retired Teachers Association of Bartholomew Co.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Calling will be Thursday from 12:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Born in Hope on Nov. 15, 1909, Carmelita was the daughter of John A. and Elma Hiatt Moore. She married William Shields on Aug. 12, 1939 and he preceded in death in 1956.
Survivors include a daughter Mary Ann Schroeder of Bloomington, grandchildren Carrie Schroeder of Chicago and Steve Schroeder of Bloomington and a great grandson Peyton Schroeder of Cleveland, Ohio.
Mrs. Sheilds was preceded in death by her husband sister Elizabeth Moore and and grandson Jeff Schroeder.
Caleb Ian Blackburn
Caleb Ian Blackburn, 27 of New Whiteland died Tuesday July 10, 2012 at his home. Born on July 26, 1985 in Maissade, Haiti, he was the son of Danny Blackburn of North Vernon and Kathryn (Lortz) Blackburn of Shelbyville. Other survivors include siblings Chuck, Scott, Mary, Rose, Rebekah, Yvonne, Toma, Sam, Cheryl, Bobby, JoAnna, Steve, Adwoa, Elizabeth, Benji, Jemima, Jeremiah, Aaron, Noah, Gideon, Abigail, Jacob, Matthew, Rachael, Thaddeus, Mike, Mark, Andy and Mammy and a grandmother Doris Lortz. He was preceded in death by a brother James Robert "JimBob" Blackburn. The funeral will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Shelbyville Community Church with Rob Springer officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Arrangements were made thru Norman Funeral Home in Hope.
Elizabeth Carol Swegman
Elizabeth Carol Swegman, 72 of Columbus passed away Wednesday Sept. 12, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care of Columbus.
Mrs. Swegman had worked at Como Plastics and later worked at Four Seasons Retirement Home where she retired. She had also been a licensed beautician and ejoyed gardening, reading, garage sales and her grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Tim Tallent officiating. Calling will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Jennings County.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Brain Tumor Assoc. 8550 W Bryn Mawr Ave. Suite 550 Chicago, IL. 60631. or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Rockport, Texas on Sept. 12, 1940, Mrs. Swegman was the daughter of Harry and Eunice Rudicel Dunkelbarger.
Survivors include children Keith Swegman of Greenfield, Karen (Joe) Harvey of Hope and Jim (Julia) Swegman of Columbus; grandchildren Sean Swegman, Logan, Alexandra and Samantha Harvey, Luke and Callie Swegman; sisters Ruth (Alvin) Roberts of Hartsville and Shirley Schwartkopf of Columbus and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Swegman was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Gene and John Dunkelbarger and sisters Lois Dunkelbarger and Dorothy Allen.
Forrest M. Gorrell
Forrest M. Gorrell, 92 of Shelbyville, formerly of Flat Rock died at 8:00 p.m. Friday Sept. 28, 2012 at Ashford Place in Shelbyville. Mr. Gorrell had been a farmer in the Flat Rock area for several years and also manager of the Swift Fertilizer Plant near Flat Rock for several years. He was a member of Flat Rock Christian Church where he had been past president of the church board, past president of the Southwestern School Board and also past president of Major Hospital Board. He had served with the U.S. Army during World War II and also enjoyed all kinds of sports. The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Flat Rock Christian Church with Stacy Popejoy officiating. Calling hours will be at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Flat Rock Christian Church through Norman Funeral Home 604 Main St. Hope, In. 47246 Mr. Gorrell was born in Shelbyville on Dec. 28, 1919, he was the son of Van M. and Alta L. McIntyre Gorrell. He married Edith M. Weinantz in Shelbyville on August 2, 1941 an she survives. He is also survived by a son Phil (Cathy) Gorrell of Flat Rock; grandchildren Jason (Melanie) Gorrell of Greenwood, Jeffrey (Jessica) Gorrell of Greensburg and Jaime (Todd) Brown of Brownstown; great grandchildren Evan and Melia Gorrell, Haley, Ryan, Hannah and Ross Gorrell and Isabella, Sawyer and Symon Brown. Mr. Gorrell was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Kenneth Gorrell.
Preston Acree
Preston Acree, 88 of Elizabethtown, died at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Mr. Acree was a Laboratory Technologist at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and Columbus Regional Hospital. He graduated from Western Kentucky University, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a member of Lakeview Church of Christ and loved hunting, fishing, beekeeping and gardening. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic and received the Bronze Star.
The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Mike Radcliff officiating. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born in Edmonton, Ky., Jan. 10, 1924, Mr. Acree was the son of Sherman and Flora Romines Acree. He married Nina Ruth Ray on December 24, 1947, and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2011.
Survivors include a son, Steven Acree (John Sins) of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren, Michael (Diana) Acree of Elizabethtown, Rachael (Kiel Barkdull) Acree of Anderson and Daniel (Janice) Acree of Waymansville; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Buddy (Hilda) Acree of Scottsville, KY, Jimmy (Frances) Acree of Edmonton, KY, Elaine Warren of Louisville, KY, and Joe (Lois) Acree of Edmonton, Ky.
Mr. Acree was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son, Tim Acree, and a brother, Edward Acree.
Phyllis J. Titus
Phyllis J. Titus, 73 of Hope passed away Saturday July 14, 2012 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
She was retired from Hardigg Industry.
She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her friends.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 am at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Pastor Mark Teike officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 - 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be donated to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Born May 28, 1939 in Shelbyville, Phyllis was the daughter of Curtis and Pearl Dodd Perry. She married Richard "Dick" Titus May 28, 1960 and he survives.
Other survivors include; a son, Rick (Andrea) Titus of Columbus; a daughter, Jennifer (Gary) Wheeler of Columbus; grandchildren, Abby and Emily Titus and Sydney, Adeline and Sarah Wheeler, all of Columbus and a brother, James (Mary Jane) Perry of Shelbyville.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Junior, Morris and Billy Perry and a sister, Dorthy "Do Do" Donica.
William W. Stewart
William W. Stewart Jr., 81 of Noble Township in Shelby County died Tuesday at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. He was a retired farmer of over 50 years in Noble Township. He was a corporal in the U. S. Marines and served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church and Greensburg V.F.W. number 5584. He loved to hunt in his earlier years. The funeral will be Friday at 11:30 am at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Robert Langdon officiating. Calling will be from 9:30 am until service time. Burial with military graveside rites will be at Norristown Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Geneva United Methodist Church thru Norman Funeral Home 604 Main St Hope, IN 47246 Born in Shelby Co.on April 10, 1931, William was the son of Will W. and May Conner Stewart. Survivors include sisters Mary (Gene) Wicker of Shelby Co. and Joyce McNeely of St Paul ; brothers Joseph (Gladys) Stewart of Shelbyville and Richard Stewart of Shelby Co. and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents; sister in law Phyllis Stewart and a brother in law Wilbert McNeely.
