Jacob Keith Gordon
(May 23, 1994 - January 1, 2012)

Jacob Keith Gordon, 17 of North Vernon died Sunday Jan. 1, 2012 at St Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Jacob loved fishing, hunting, creating items with duct tape and music. The funeral will be conducted at 5:00 p.m. Friday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Lonnie Goins officiating. Calling hours will be Friday from 3:00 p.m. until service time. Burial will be at a later date at Scipio Cemetery. Memorials may made to a fund for Jacob's son Kaiden. Born May 23, 1994, Jacob was the son of Jerry Gordon and Deanna Schultheis Large both of North Vernon. Other survivors include a stepfather Dan Large of North Vernon; stepmother Tracy Gordon of North Vernon; a son Kaiden Keith Gordon of North Vernon; fiance Destiny Reynolds of North Vernon; brothers Jerry D. Zapfe and Randall J. Gordon both of North vernon; sister Adrienne D. Gordon of North Vernon; grandmothers Mary Conrad and Brenda Stiver both of North Vernon; great grandmother Geneva Mullikin Of Hope; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Jacob was preceded in death by a grandfather James Conrad; great grandparents George and Nancy Miller; great great grandmother Dovie Wallace and great grandfather Carl Mullikin.

Martha V. Linder
(March 17, 1918 - December 28, 2011)

Martha V. Linder, 93 of Flat Rock passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at the Heritage House Health Care Center in Shelbyville. She was a member of the Flat Rock United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 am at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Leslie Fix officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 4 - 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, IN. Memorial contributions may be donated to the Flat Rock United Methodist Church. Born March 17, 1918, Mrs. Linder was the daughter of George and Etta Aiken Slusher. She married Carl Linder June 6, 1943 and he preceded her in death in 2000. Survivors include children, Gregory (Carole) Linder of LaGrange, IN, Jeffery (Pam) Linder of Waldron, IN, Eric (Cindy) Linder of New Castle, IN, Mimi (Mark) Conover of Edinburgh, IN and Carol (Mark) Stohry of Flat Rock, IN; grandchildren, Jared, Andrew, Zach, Ethan, Joshua and Shelley Linder, Damon and Tyler Conover, Bradley Stohry and Chelsea Fink and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Linder was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters, Rubye Gorrell and Georgia Hamner.

Maris J. England
(November 29, 1932 - October 25, 2011)

Maris Jane Hook England 78 of Columbus died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011 at her home. Born November 29, 1932 to Cleo Emory and Dorthy Lucille Ritchison Hook in Columbus, IN. She was married to Lee E. England on January 10, 1949 in Jeffersonville, IN. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2002 and is buried in Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus, IN. She was of the Baptist faith. He is survived by children, Russell E. (Rita) England of Columbus, Richard W. England of Seymour, Steven R. (Lisa) England of Seymour, Robert B. England of South Carolina, Regina F. Runyon of Seymour and Reed E. (Ramona) England of Columbus; eleven grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Wayne (Marie) Hook of Salt Lake City, Utah. and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild Steven Rand Dickmeyer. She graduated from Columbus High School, 1951 and from Ivy Tech College with two degrees in 1984, and retired from Columbus Sportswear in 1994. The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. The visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 until service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be donated to Hospice of South Central Indiana thru the funeral home.

John K White
(February 8, 1934 - October 11, 2011)

John K. White, 77 of Hope, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was retired from Cummins Engine Co. after thirty years, was retired from the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Transport Dept., after eleven years, had worked at Reeves Pulley and he had driven a school bus for Flat Rock Hawcreek School System. He was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Hope Masonic Lodge and had served in the U.S. Army. He loved listening to country music, watching grandkids play sports, watching John Wayne and old western movies and just loved to visit with hometown family and friends. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 pm at the Hope United Methodist Church with Revs. Norman Wallace and Marianne Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be friday from 4 - 8 pm and Saturday from 1:30 pm until service time both at the church. There will be a Masonic Service Friday evening at 8:00 pm at the church. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be donated to Hospice of South Central Indiana and Bartholomew County Humane Society. Born on February 8, 1934 in Bartholomew County, John was the son of Louie and Naomi Dodd White. He married Carolyn Mantooth May 13, 1956 at St. Louis Crossing Methodist Church and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 1984. Other survivors include; children, Connie Sue (John) Parker of Lovington, New Mexico, Becki K. (Alan) Ashbrook of Hope, Diana G. (Tommy) Meeks of Colorado City, TX and John Kenneth White of Hope; grandchildren, Valerie Parker Thompson, Jeremy W. Gilliland, Austin Ashbrook, Sgt. Allen Brodie, Alison Ashbrook, Alex "CoCo" Ashbrook and Nicholas and Sydney White; great granddaughter, Carolyn Parker Rose Thompson; a brother, Kenneth (Evelyn) White of Columbus and a sister, Carol (Alva) Dailey of Hope. John was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Naomi White; his wife, Carolyn White; a sister, Patricia White Bode and grandson, Heath Wesley Parker.

Suellen S Tatman
(January 27, 1942 - August 15, 2011)

Suellen S. Tatman, 69 of Columbus passed away Monday August 15, 2011 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mrs. Tatman had retired from the office at Columbus City Utilities. She liked cooking and spending time with her family. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Garland Brook Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Aud officiating. There will no calling hours. Norman Funeral Home in Hope is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbus City Animal Shelter, 2730 Arnold St Columbus, In 47203. Born in Madison, January 27, 1942, Mrs. Tatman was the daughter of Earl and Margaret Pelser Steadman. She has been married to Bob Tatman for over 30 years and he survives. Other survivors include children; Kathy (Steven) Piper, Keith (Dorothy) Robbins and Tammy (Wayne) LaRue all of Columbus; grandchildren, Stephanie Jacobs, Ashley Williams, Lauren Robbins, and Miranda Robbins; great grandchildren Ruby Jacobs, Sophia Williams and Jordan Burton; sisters MaryJane Owen of Hanover and Lois Perez of Dallas, TX. Mrs. Tatman was preceded in death by a grandson Katlin C. Piper and her parents.

Roberta Vaughan
(November 3, 1925 - August 9, 2011)

Roberta Vaughan, 85 of Hope died Tuesday August 9, 2011 at 4:10 am at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 pm at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. The visitation will be from 11:00 am until service time on Thursday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be donated to Hospice of South Central Indiana. Survivors include children, Betty (Jerry) Garrison of Columbus, Mary Laudick of Hope, William Lonaker of Hope, Helen (Ron) Keller of Hope, James (Toni) Lonaker of Columbus and Troy (Janet) Wombles of Columbus; brothers, Ed Holiday of Ky, Charles Herndon of Ohio, Bill Herndon of Washington and Liebert Garriott of Ky; 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Vaughan and a son, Raymond Julius.

Ralph Edward Wade
(September 21, 1929 - October 17, 2011)

Ralph Edward Wade, 82 of Columbus, formerly of Flat Rock passed away at 6:12 a.m. Monday Oct. 17, 2011 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mr. Wade had been a program specialist for ASCS for 32 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church, Member of Farmer's Masonic Lodge, Flat Rock Order Of Eastern Star, and Amateur Trapshooting Assoc. He loved trapshooting, flower and vegetable gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope with Rev. Leslie Fix officiating. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A masonic memorial service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. today. Burial will be at Flat Rock Cemetery in Flat Rock, IN. Memorial s may be given to Flat Rock United Methodist Church thru the funeral home. Mr. Wade was born Sept. 21, 1929 in Bartholomew Co. He was the son of Walter and Mamie Bell Snider Wade. He married Joanna Lawless on Jan. 21, 1951 at the Flat Rock United Methodist Church and she survives. Other survivors include a son Logan Ralph Wade of Flat Rock and a daughter Mary Bell (Rusty) Smiley of Flat Rock; grandchildren Jesse Wade (Rochelle) Mathena of Greenwood, Donnell Edward (Lenora) Mathena of Shelbyville, and Joseph Wayne (Kayla) Mathena II of Westport; great-grandchildren Jesse Mathena Jr., Devon Mathena, Wade Mathena, Annabelle Mathena and Josey Mathena; a brother, Lawrence Edgar Wade of Cookeville, Tenn. and a nephew Larry Wade. Mr. Wade was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mamie Bell Wade.

James Oliver Grimsley, 63

Greensburg - James Oliver Grimsley, 63, Greensburg passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital at Beech Grove.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 6 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery at Cincinnati, Ohio

Memorial contributions may be made to the family through the funeral home.

Caroline F. Duerstock, 82

Caroline F. Duerstock, 82 of Batesville, passed away Friday, April 30 at Margaret Mary Hospital.

Born June 16, 1927 in Batesville, she is the daughter of Clara (Enneking) and Leo Kleine. She married Kenneth Duerstock on Aug. 25, 1951 at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. She was a homemaker in addition to working 10 years in the sewing department of Batesville Casket Company and was a member of St. Louis Church.

Caroline stayed busy with a number of interests. An accomplished quilt maker, many of her family have a cherished heirloom from her. She was also an excellent baker and her family enthusiastically remembers her breads and homemade doughnuts. For years she enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens until health issues in recent years didn't allow her to. Quiet time was spent reading or watching a little TV. An avid reader, she preferred romance novels and tended to watch Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy or soap operas. Cards were another pleasure she liked and Euchre, Solo, 500 and Uno were among her favorites. Her family agrees that her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by: her husband Ken; daughters Carol Ciesielski of Portage, Ind., Alice Schwegman, Theresa Dickman, Rose Hountz and Cathy Duerstock, all of Batesville; sister Mildred Brackman of Batesville; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by brothers Martin and Elmer Kleine.

Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 3 at the Weigel Funeral Home with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services are 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at the St. Louis Church with Rev. Steven Akange officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to St. Louis School Tuition Angels Program or the Alzheimer's Association.

Betty Jean Agnew

Betty Jean Agnew, 80, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 07, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. from the Silver Oak Health Campus at Columbus, Indiana. Born in Alert, Indiana on March 22, 1928 to the late George and Mabel Fike Deppert, she was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1945. Betty was married 53 years to the love of her life, Charles D. Agnew who preceded her in death on August 31, 1999. They were the parents of 4 children, Cheryl Dougherty (John) and Rick Agnew (Sherri) of Columbus, Kimberly Smith (Rick) of North Vernon, and Kelly Agnew (Robyn) also of Columbus.

Betty, a devoted farm wife, was a woman of many talents, and especially enjoyed making draperies and doing alterations. She was a familiar face to many local businesses with her homemade noodles and baked items. Betty was a dedicated member of Sardinia Baptist Church and Edna Martin Mission Circle. She and Charles enjoyed Barbershop Quartets and cattle buying trips to Tennessee. They were wonderful parents and grandparents to 11 grandchildren, John, Dennis, Shaun, Brett and Lindsey Dougherty, Alyssa Dougherty Mantooth, Tyler and Tanner Smith, T.J. Blair, Cameron and Mackenzie Agnew, and 10 great grandchildren.

Family was important to Betty and she loved hosting gatherings in her home.

Also surviving are brothers, Paul William Deppert (Vera) of San Antonio, Texas, Charles Deppert (Gael), of Indianapolis, and sisters, Beulah Schrader of Franklin, Norma Zacharias (Harold) of Indianapolis, and Marilyn Cooper (Mike), of Hartsville. She also had a special place in her heart for sisters in law, Edna Houze of Sardinia and Opal Barton of Tempe, AZ.

Friends may pay their respects at the Bass and Gasper Funeral Home in Westport from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2008. Funeral services will be held at Sardinia Baptist Church on Monday August 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held following the service at Westport Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sardinia Baptist Church.
