William Joseph Barry, Jr. age 80 years of Bright, IN passed away Friday, November 19, 2004 in Cincinnati, OH.

born June 1, 1924 in Jersey City, NJ the son of William Sr. & Elizabeth (McFadden) Barry. He married Merlinda Marce on April 20, 1986. Mr. Barry, a US Marine Corp Veteran of WWII, was a carpenter mill wright, a member of the St. Theresa Benedicta in Bright, IN, American Legion and VFW both in Batesville, IN, the DAV in Cincinnati, OH and 1st Marine Div. Assoc.

He is survived by his children Billie Jean Barry of Bright, IN; Magdalena Marce of Annapolis, MD; Maureen of New York, William, Robert, Dennis & Jimmy Barry all of New Jersey; sisters Florence Schulte of Batesville, IN; Irene Nugent of North Carolina; brother Jimmy Barry of New Jersey and several grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by a son Kevin Barry and sister Margaret Barry.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 22, 2004; 10:00 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, IN with Father Christiaan Kappes officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8pm at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery with graveside military rites. Memorials are suggested to American Kidney Assoc. or American Diabetes Assoc.

Barbara Ann Stirn

Barbara Ann Stirn, age 47 years of Batesville, IN passed away Monday, November 15, 2004 in Cincinnati, OH.

born August 13, 1957 in Jeremiah, KY the daughter of Marion & Florine (Smith) Back. She was married to David L. Stirn in Greensburg, IN.

Mrs. Stirn is survived by her husband David L. Stirn, parents Marion & Florine Back, daughers Rachel (Andrew) Oaldon of Napoleon, IN and Kaylyn Stirn of Batesville, IN and son Jeremy Back of Batesville, IN. She will also be missed by her sisters Lana Harmeyer and Traci Back both of Batesville, IN and her brother Mike Back of Greenwood, IN.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Friday, November 19, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rossburg Cemetery in New Point, IN. Memorials are suggested to the family.

Bernard L. Haas Jr., age 77 years of Batesville, IN passed away Monday, November 8, 2004 in Columbus, IN.

born December 27, 1926 in Clay County, IN the son of Bernard Sr. & Versa (Kirschner) Haas. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII, retired from Batesville Casket Co and was a member of Adams Lutheran Church in Batesville and VFW 3183. He married Margie Haas on Nov. 30, 1973.

Mr. Haas is survived by his son Michael Haas of Victoria, TX; daughters Michelle Jones & Monica Haas both of Terre Haute, IN; stepsons Terry Powell of Bright, IN and Kim Powell of Batesville, IN; stepdaughters Robin Schornick of Batesville, IN and Amy Ruggles of Lexington, KY. He will also be missed by 18 grandchildren and 1 great grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 1989, 1 great granddaughter and sister Wilma Rightsell.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 8, 2004 from 5-8 PM at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Funeral Services will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. William Powlen officiating. Burial will be in Adams Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites. Memorials are suggested to the J. Michael Hansen Oncology Center.

born June 17, 1944 in Verne, KY the son of Henry R. Sr. & Mary Alice (Smith) Smith and Ollie R. (Gentry) Smith. He married Agnes Owens on Nov. 17, 1978. He was a graduate of North Dearborn High School, a US Navy Veteran of Vietnam and an electrician at GE.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Agnes Smith, son Bob (Rhonda) Murdock of Hidden Valley, IN and daughters Lori Smith of W. Harrison, IN and Tami Smith of Bright, IN. He will also be missed by his granddaughter Carissa Murdock and brother George (Sylvia) Smith of Snow Mass, CO.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 14, 2004 from 2-5 PM at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH. Services will be Monday at 2:00 PM with Pastor Frank Hedger officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Harrison VFW & American Legion Funeral Detail. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Magdalen "Maggie" L. Bartling

Magdalen “Maggie” L. Bartling, age 84 years of Morris, IN passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004 in Cincinnati, OH.

born Dec. 6, 1919 in Batesville, IN the daughter of Harry & Matilda (Billman) Ferkenhoff. She married Francis H. Bartling on June 13, 1947. Her and her husband owned and operated the former F.H. Poultry and Bartling Bait Shop. She was a member of St. Anne’s Ladies Sodality, youth leader and coach at St. Anthony C.Y.O., chairperson for St. Anthony Kitchen Dept. for the Labor Day Picnic and former choir member at St. Louis Church.

Mrs. Bartling is survived by her son Bart Bartling of Batesville, IN; daughters Venita Dotson of Cincinnati, OH; Karla Henderson of Dover, IN; Denee “Dee” Andres of Dover, IN and Lisa Bartling of Morris, IN; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.; sisters Peggy Hooten of Batesville, IN; Elverna Comer of Rushville, IN; Eugena Willett of Columbus, OH; Juanita Chappelow of Connersville, IN and Gloria Ferkenhoff of Cincinnati, OH. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters Mary Ferkenhoff, Olivia Bentfield and Clotilda Schriner and brother Carl Ferkenhoff.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 9, 2004 from 5-8 PM with rosary at 6 PM at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony Church in Morris, IN with Msgr. Bernard Schmitz officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony Church Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Anthony Church of American Diabetes Assoc.

born December 16, 1936 in La Follette, TN the daughter of Leamon & Sarah Bowling. She was married to Thomas “Bud” Hollowell who preceded her in death on February 4, 2001.

Mrs. Hollowell is survived by her children Jeff (Janice) Hollowell of Bright, IN; Leaann Woods of St. Charles, MS; Thomas (Joelle) Hollowell of Anderson, OH and Roll (Cynthia) Hollowell of Bright, IN. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Joe, Nicole, Danny, Kevin, Kelly, Kaylee & Sydney Hollowell, Charles, Mailhot & Christopher Woods and sisters June Bowling of West Virginia and Lora Bowling of Tennessee. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Odell Bowling.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH with Rev. Rick McKinney officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Cincinnati.

Cordelia Shook, 97 years of Batesville, IN passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville, IN.

She was born January 17, 1907 near Milan, IN; the daughter of James & Sarah (Rodgers) Moody. She married Leeland Shook on September 2, 1933 in Batesville and he preceded in death on October 15, 1974.

She is survived by her daughter Maxine Gudgeon and son Ronald Shook both of Batesville, IN; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by 7 brothers and 2 sisters.

Mrs. Shook was a member of Batesville United Methodist Church, worked for Batesville Casket and Home Outfitters, member of Pocahontas Star Light Council 448, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 348 and American Legion Ladies Aux.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the Batesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Marhanka officiating. Visitation will be Friday, February 20, 2004 from 5 - 8 PM at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will be in the Methodist Church Cemetery. Memorials gifts are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Heart Fund or Methodist church.

She was born June 2, 1907 in Batesville; the daughter of Charles & Ella (Turner) Becker. She married Ervin Green who preceded her in death on December 11, 1976.

She is survived by her daughters Mary C. Emsweller, Roberta J. “Bobbie” Siebert and Myra J. Nobbe all of Batesville; sons Ronald E. Green of Batesville, Paul F. Green of Clearwater, FL and William C. Green of Denver, CO; 8 grandsons, 8 granddaughters and 19 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters Essie Schorr and Gladys Luers and brother Forest Becker.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Batesville.

Services will be Friday, February 20, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with Rev. David Johnston officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery. Memorial gifts are suggested to Margaret Mary Hospital Hospice or American Cancer Society.

She was born July 22, 1955 in Hamilton, OH; the daughter of Clarence & Ruth Ann (Stone) Smith. She was married to Herbert Parish who preceded her in death on May 24, 1987. She then married William T. Dillon on December 23, 1989.

She is survived by her husband William T. Dillon, daughter Lynn Smith of Bright, IN; son Ralph (Sarah) Adams of Versailles, IN; stepdaughter Della Dillon of Harrison, OH; stepsons Todd Dillon of Indiana, Christopher Dillon of Harrison, OH and Joseph (Jessie) Dillon of Tennessee; parents Clarence & Ruth Ann Smith; grandchildren Tyler Adams & Chase Cossman; 14 step grandchildren; sister Donna (Mark) Spau of Millville, OH and special aunt Kathryn Stone of Bright, IN.

Mrs. Dillon graduated from East Central High School in 1974; member of Logan Creek Pentecostal Church and employed by Campbell Hausfeld.

Services will be Friday, February 20, 2004 ; 11:00 AM at Jackman Kercheval Meyers Funeral Home, Harrison, OH with Pastor Fred Marshall of the Logan Creek Pentecostal Church officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, Harrison, OH. Memorial gifts are suggested to Bright Life Squad.
