Jimmie "Jim" R. Shidler, 68, of 2504 East Division Street, Star City, IN, passed away at 3:10 AM Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
He was born October 11, 1939, in Thornhope, IN, to Grover and Dora Ethel Spencer Shidler. He married Debra A. Galbreath on September 25, 1971 in Monticello, IN. Debra survives.
Jim was member of the FOE #2580 in Winamac, IN. Jim was a member of the Star City Church of Christ. He was retired from the Fulton-Marshall Co-op in Star City, IN. He was a former employee of Tee-Pak Co in Winamac, IN. Jim enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing. He was an avid bowler. He enjoyed golfing and softball. Jim was a former Star City Volunteer fireman. He was very handy and was a good "fix-it" man. Jim enjoyed time with friends and family. He rarely missed his grandchildren's events. Jim liked to listen to old country music. Jim was an honest person and was strong in his faith.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM EST Wednesday, November 28, 2007, in Frain Mortuary, Winamac, with Rev. Edward Clark officiating. Burial will take place in the Buck Cemetery located at Thornhope, IN

ANNABELLE MAE FAGNER

Annabelle Mae Fagner, 86, of 624 E. 13th St., Winamac, IN, passed away at 4:40 AM Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, IN.
She was born May 12, 1921, in Warren, IN, to William and Edna Back Pennington.
She was married to Russell Orville Fagner on Sept. 5, 1942 in Delong, IN. He died May 30, 1985.
She attended Ora Gospel Chapel. She was a 20 member of T.O.P.S. She was also a longtime member of the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxillary and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the hospital.
She was a retired seamstress and had worked at the Rice Corp. in Winamac and Hart, Shafner, and Marx in Rochester, IN.
She enjoyed playing the piano and violin. She was active in church activities and spent many hours volunteering. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

MARY MARTHA HARDESTY

Mary Martha Hardesty, 97, of 6614 W CR 800 N, Royal Center, IN, formery of Medaryville, IN, passed away at 10:40 AM Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac, IN.
She was born September 1, 1910, in Newton County, IN, to Conrad and Minnie Wolf.
She married Raymond Edward Hardesty on Aug. 24, 1935. He preceeded her in death.
She lived most of her life in Medaryville.
She was a 1927 graduate of Klondike High School in West Lafayette, IN and a member of the Medaryville Christian Church. She was a former 4-H Leader.
She was a former Postmaster of the Medaryville Post Office.
She loved to sew and grow and arrange flowers.

STEVEN J. STARKES

Steven Joseph Starkes, 20, of 306 E. Old State Road 14, Winamac, IN, passed away at 12:37 PM Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, IN.
He was born October 11, 1987, in Knox, IN, to Dale and Elizabeth Henry Starkes.
Steven J. Starkes was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois where he attended services with his father and stepmother. He was baptized at Hilltop Lutheran Church in South Bend, Indiana and he was a confirmed member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in North Judson, Indiana.
Steven graduated from Winamac Community High School with an Academic Honors Diploma in May of 2006. While at Winamac, he participated in the Academic Super Bowl team and the Cross Country team. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Students. Steven received a Certificate of Achievement from the Indiana State Senate and the President’s Award for Educational Excellence upon graduation. While in high school he earned a black belt in Tai Kwon Do and enjoyed doing volunteer work as a helper at the Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.
Before graduating from Winamac Community High School, Steven attended the American School in Switzerland from 2002-2003. During this time Steven traveled through Italy, Switzerland, France, Austria, and the Czech Republic. He took drama and acting classes in England. While at the American School, he participated in the drama club. He performed in Shakespeare’s “Much to do About Nothing” and many other performances. He was active in the Model U.N. program and was a representative at the Paris Conference in 2003. He also participated in the Future Problem Solvers Club and the Environmental Club. He played squash and intramural tennis while in Switzerland.
Steven attended Culver Military Academy Summer Camp. While at camp, he was part of the Naval program, participated in many sports, and enjoyed the summer classes.
Most recently, Steven was a psychology major at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. At DePauw, he was a member of the Progressive Club and the Young Democratic Club.
Steven was an avid skier. He enjoyed jogging and being outdoors. He also enjoyed playing the guitar. His interest in guitar began in his teens. He was self-taught, but also received lessons from Mark Hoffman of Winamac. He and Mark produced a CD and performed twice at the Culver Coffee Company.
Steven was a vegetarian in high school and slowly became a vegan by college.
Steven liked staying in Chicago with his family and enjoyed sailing. During his short life he crossed Lake Michigan multiple times and was a graduate of the Columbia Yacht School’s Junior Sailing Program. He also loved to interact with the many people at Columbia Yacht Club. Steven sailed with his family and friends throughout the Caribbean. Steven also enjoyed playing squash.
Steven was an avid reader and enjoyed listening to books on tape and went though most of the selection of the Chicago Public Library. He had an avid and curious mind and always enjoyed challenges, both intellectual and physical. Steven had the capacity to work hard and knew the meaning of self-discipline.
Steven was also a former employee of the Department of Natural Resources and worked in the Tippecanoe State Park in Winamac. He enjoyed working there because of the “wonderful people that worked there”. Steven worked at Starkes Law Office in Winamac. Steven was a former employee of the Comfort Inn Located in Rochester, Indiana and thought it was a good job cleaning rooms because he got a long workout and could listen to his tapes at the same time. He respected his co-workers and spoke highly of them and their lives.

A community service of remembrence will be held at Frain Mortuary, Winamac, IN, Thursday, November 8, 2007 at 7 PM EST with Pastor Michael B. Boyd officiating.
Funeral services will be held at 7 PM EST Friday, November 9, 2007 at Frain Mortuary with Pastor Fritz Photenhauer officiating. Following the service a memorial celebration will be held at Steven’s home in Winamac, IN.
An additional funeral service will be held at the Concordia Lutheran Church , 2647 West Belmont Street in Chicago, IL at 1 PM CST on Saturday November 10, 2007, with Pastor H. David Brummer officiating. A memorial celebration will be held at 4300 North Marine Drive in Chicago, IL following the church services.
Private burial services will take place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at Winamac, IN
Visitation will be 3-7 PM EST Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Frain Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Friday, November 9, 2007 at Frain Mortuary.
