Norma E. Ransdell
Norma E. Ransdell, 83, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 28th at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on November 29th, 1934 in Marion County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Virgil and Ethel Clarine (Whitlock) McCarty.
Norma was the office manager and coordinator with Louisville Auto Auction in Clarksville, Indiana; and retired from Mid America Auto Auction in Louisville, Kentucky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Dave McCarty; and sister-in-law Carmella McCarty.
She is survived by her five sons: Ronny (Donna), Mike, Ed (Dawn) of Vevay, Jim (Debbie), and Tim (Patty) Ransdell; by one brother, Bill McCarty, and her sister-in-law Sue McCarty. She will also be dearly missed by 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 30th; and also on Saturday, December 1st prior to the beginning of the funeral services at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indian. Entombment followed at Resthaven Memorial Park, Louisville, Kentucky.

Mable ‘Mickie’ McCalip
Mable Louise “Mickie” (Murray) McCalip, age 87, of Vevay, passed away at 3:35 p.m. on Monday, December 3rd, 2018, at the St. Andrew Health Campus in Batesville, Indiana.
Mickie entered this life on June 11th, 1931, in Osgood, Indiana, and was the daughter of the late, Benjamin S. “Sockie” and Nora Marie (Rohlfing) Murray. She was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was a 1949 graduate of the Ben Davis High School.
Mickie was united in marriage on September 2nd, 1951, in Osgood, Indiana, to the late William Henry “Bill” McCalip. This happy union was blessed with three daughters: Tammie, Chris and Tina. Mickie and Bill shared 60 years of marriage together until he passed away on January 24th, 2011.
Mickie owned and operated the Versailles Laundromat for 18 years, and the Vevay Bowling Alley for 20 years, retiring in March of 1998. Mickie and Bill also owned and operated a farm in Ripley County, Indiana for many years.
She was a life member of Job’s Daughters International. She served as a past mother advisor of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. Mickie joined the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 333 and had served as Worthy Matron. She was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Ladies Auxiliary. Mickie was awarded the Grand Cross of Color 4-H Leader.
Mickie was an avid bowler for over 60 years and bowled in five national tournaments of which she and her husband won 1st place in the GT-La Mode held in Columbus, Ohio (37 states were involved). Mickie was very proud of all her family. She enjoyed traveling, bowling, painting, sewing, music and meeting new people with a sense of humor of course.
Mickie will be deeply missed by her daughters: Tammie Spurlock and her husband, Ron of Rotonda West, Florida and Tina Aubuchon and her husband, Michael of Twin Falls, Idaho; by her grandchildren: Laurie Krieg and her husband, Dwight of Batesville, Indiana, Corey Lemen of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Christie Volz and her husband, Jason of Osgood, Indiana; by her great-grandchildren: Abbie Krieg, Benjamin William Krieg, Blake Volz, Chance Volz, Drew Volz, Cabel Lemen and Charlotte Lemen; and her several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin S. “Sockie” and Nora Marie (Rohlfing) Murray; by her husband, William Henry “Bill” McCalip, who died on January 24th, 2011; her daughter, Chris McCalip; and by her sisters: Rubie Kieffer, Cora Gahimer and Ruthie Bultman.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th, 2018, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana. Bennington Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 407 will conduct services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th at the funeral home.
The family requests memorials in memory of Mickie to the Keeping Pace Cancer Fund, c/o The Community Foundation of Switzerland County; or the American Heart Association, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
Kelli Werner
Kelli S. Werner 50, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away on Sunday December 9th, 2018 in Aurora.
She was born on April 27th, 1968 in Dearborn County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Robert Werner and Mary (Johnson) Werner.
Kelly was employed at New Horizons. She loved dancing, flipping through magazines, drawing in her notebooks, shopping at Walmart and eating at Skyline Chili. Kelli loved hugs and her smile could light up the room.
She is survived by her brothers: Rick Werner of Aurora, and Bobby (Sudie) Werner of Aurora, as well as seven nieces and nephews, including Matt Werner and his wife, Victoria, of Rising Sun; and eight great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Werner; by her sister, Tammy Werner; and by her brothers: David, Michael and Greg Werner.
Friends are invited to call on the family on Saturday, December 15th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana. Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday, December 15th, beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Sinai Cemetery, Aurora.

Marcella Jarvis
Marcella Elizabeth Jarvis, 99, of Aurora, Indiana, passed away at 12:51 p.m. on Friday, December 7th, 2018 at Ridgewood Health Campus in Lawrenceburg, Indiana.
Marcella was born in Ohio County on June 22nd, 1919, the daughter of the late Bessie (Hastings) and Herman Thies. She attended Rising Sun Schools and graduated from Mollers Beauty School in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1941.
Marcella worked as a beautician and operated a shop out of her home for several years.
She married Forrest Leland Jarvis on September 3rd, 1953. Leland passed away on December 15th, 1965. Marcella still maintained the home they bought together in 1954.
Marcella was a member of the Rising Sun Church of Christ. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and loved the company of her nieces and nephew and many great nieces and nephews.
Marcella is survived by a nephew, John Edwin Peters (Saundra) of Rising Sun; by her nieces: Carolyn Jones of Cincinnati, Ohio, Nancy Hopper of Rising Sun and Sherry Lawrence of Versailles, Indiana; by nine great nieces and nephews; by 12 great great nieces and nephews; and by several great great great nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, Leland; by her sister Genevieve Peters; by an infant sister, Wanda June Thies; and by her niece, Elaine Peters.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 12th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends were invited to call on the family on Wednesday, December 12th, prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery in Aurora. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
James ‘Kenny’ Griffin
James Kenneth “Kenny” Griffin, age 83, of Vevay, passed away on Monday, December 10th, 2018, at his residence.
Kenny entered this life on November 4th, 1935, in Rushville, Indiana, the loving son of the late Jerry and Alta Mae (Johnson) Griffin. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1954 graduate of the Patriot High School.
Kenny was inducted into the United States Army on June 4th, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky, serving during the Vietnam War. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class on May 31st, 1964 at Fort Lewis, Washington.
On April 27th, 1957, at the Ruter Chapel United Methodist Church in Vevay, Kenny was united in marriage to Verlie Ann Buchanan. This happy union was blessed with two sons: Dana and Dale. Kenny and Verlie shared over 55 years of marriage together until she passed away on September 8th, 2012.
Kenny was employed as a technician and supervisor for Fernald Plant in Ross, Ohio, for 10 years and for Monsanto Plant in Cleves, Ohio, for one and a half years. He was employed as the maintenance coordinator for Dow Corning in Carrollton, Kentucky, retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service.
Kenny served on the Switzerland County School Board from 1982-1988; the Switzerland County School Endowment Board from 2002-2006; and Switzerland County Council from 1990-2006. He was a charter member for the board of directors for the Switzerland County YMCA from 2000-2002.
Kenny was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 where he served as past commander from 1988-1989, on the house committee for two years and as the finance officer for two years. He was currently the post adjutant from 2012-2018, finance officer for the bar account and treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the Vevay VFW Post #5396 and the Switzerland Masonic Lodge #122 F&AM. He was a former member of the Patriot Methodist Church in Patriot.
Kenny resided in the Vevay community since 1969. Kenny will be remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, playing euchre, and coaching little league ball for nine years. Kenny enjoyed raising cattle on his farm in Vevay from 1972 until present; and driving around town and socializing with his family and friends. Kenny enjoyed his daily visits to the Vevay American Legion Post #185 where he enjoyed socializing and helping in the daily events and activities.
Kenny will be deeply missed by his sons: Dana Griffin and his wife Rhonda of Vevay and Dale Griffin and his wife Jackie of Rising Sun; by his companion, Jane Osborne of Vevay; by his grandchildren: Scott Griffin and his wife Danielle of Vevay, Shane Griffin and his wife Megan of Vevay, and Taylor Griffin of Rising Sun; by his great-grandchildren: Kellen, Kenna and Harper Griffin all of Vevay; by his step-granddaughter, Elizabeth Gough and her husband, Sam; his step-great-grandchildren: McKenzie Ferrari, Kaylee Ferrari and Riley Zeiner; by his brother, Gerald Griffin and his wife Carol of Priest River, Idaho; his half-sisters, Rita Welch of Carrollton, Kentucky and Shirley Griffin of Milan, Indiana; his half-brother, George Griffin and his wife Candy, Selma, North Carolina; and his several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Alta Mae (Johnson) Griffin; his step-mother, Jeanette (Browning) Griffin; by his wife, Verlie Ann (Buchanan) Griffin, who died on September 8th, 2012; by his brothers: Charles Robert Griffin and Paul Eugene Griffin; by his sisters: Dorothy Gillispie and Dolly Bowling; his half-brother, Jerry Eugene Griffin; and his sister-in-law, Hazel Griffin.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. on Friday, December 14th, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Masonic Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 14th, by the Switzerland County Masonic Lodge #122 F&AM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 15th, at 11 a.m., by Reverend Mike Jones at the funeral home. Interment and Full Military Rites will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396 in the Vevay Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Vevay American Legion Post #185 Relief Fund or Vevay VFW Post #5396 Relief Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home.
Paul ‘Kenny’ Darbro
Paul Kenneth “Kenny” Darbro, age 69 of Madison, passed away on Friday, December 7th, 2018, at 1:25 p.m. at Baptist Health Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky.
Kenny entered this life on June 4th, 1949 in Madison, the son of the late Roy and Norma L. Dilts Darbro. He was raised in Switzerland County, and graduated from the Vevay High School in 1967.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force after one year of college, serving until his honorable discharge. After his service in the Air Force, he served in the Air Force Reserves and the Indiana National Guard.
He was united in marriage on March 9th, 1973 to Mary Catherine “Cathy” Hite in Vevay by Reverend Ron Sandidge, and to this happy union of 45 years came a son, Roy, and a daughter, Deanna, to bless their home.
He began a career in manufacturing, working for the old U.S. Shoe Corporation, Batesville Casket Company, and finally retiring from the old Reliance Electric after more than 30 years of service.
Kenny was a longtime sports fan, cheering on the Madison Cubs and the Cincinnati Reds. He is fondly remembered for his generosity working with various veterans’ organizations and charities, and for his warm smile and friendly conversation on the bench at Wal-Mart.
Kenny will be missed by his loving wife, Mary Catherine “Cathy” Hite Darbro of Madison; his loving son, Roy Darbro and his wife Teddie of Madison; his loving daughter, Deanna Higbie and her husband Derrick of Madison; by his loving mother, Norma L. Dilts Darbro; by his loving grandchildren: Mercedes Anderson (Travis), Aaliyah Skidmore (Andrew), Kenny Higbie (Alexis), Dylan Darbro, Angel Higbie, Jordan Darbro, and Madison Darbro; and by his loving great grandson, Greyson Skidmore.
He will also be missed by his loving sisters: Beanie Driver and her husband, Mark of East Enterprise, Jo Webster of Vevay, Debbie Simpson of Vevay, Billie Kuhen of Vevay, and Jill Darbro of Madison; by his loving brothers: Larry Darbro and his wife Debra of Florence and Bobby Darbro of Vevay; by his loving step brothers: Fred Earls of Madison, Mike Earls and his wife LuAnn of Lakeland, Florida, and Bill Earls and his wife, Nelda of Fayetteville, Ohio; by his loving step sister, Sharon Hansel and her husband, Darrell of Vevay; his brother-in-law, Jack Hite, Sr. and his wife Doreene of Hanover, Indiana; his special nephew, Jack Hite, Jr. and his wife Tara of Rising Sun; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Darbro, who died on June 8th, 1969; his step father, John J. Earls, who died on August 10th, 1994: his brothers: Charles Denver Darbo, who died in 1950, Melvin Gayle Darbro, who died in 1952, and Gary Ray Darbro, who died on February 20th, 2012; by his grandparents, Roy and Grace Dilts and William and Floy Tapp Darbro; and by his special uncle and aunt, Jonny and Mary Darbro.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, December 12th, by Reverend Randy Crutchfield at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment followed in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.
Friends were invited to pay their respects to the family on Tuesday, December 11th, and also on Wednesday, December 12th prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. Full military honors were conducted on Wednesday, December 12th, by the United States Air Force Ceremonial Unit and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kenny Darbro Remembrance Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home.
