Carolyn Scudder

Carolyn H. (Hylander) Scudder, age 85, of Vevay, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018, at Waters of Dillsboro in Dillsboro, Indiana.

Carolyn entered this life on April 2nd, 1932, in Margaretville, New York, the daughter of the late William and Beth (Finch) Hylander. Carolyn was raised in Arkville, New York where she was a graduate of the Margaretville Central High School.

Carolyn was united in marriage on March 14th, 1969, in New York, to the late, James W. “Jim” Scudder. Carolyn and Jim shared over 39 years of marriage together until he passed away on August 10th, 2008.

Carolyn was employed as a sub contractor for Rotrons in Kingston, New York for several years; and for GE Appliances in Louisville, Kentucky. She was also employed as a nurse’s aid for Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay, and for other various nursing homes. She worked in the activities department for Swiss Villa for several years. Carolyn was a member of the Vevay VFW Auxiliary and the Aberdeen United Methodist Church.

Carolyn had resided in the Switzerland County community since 1971. Carolyn was a wonderful cook and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, gardening and going to Long John Silvers and Wal-Mart. She loved animals of all kind and will be sorely missed by her loving family.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Doug Oliver and his wife Mickie of Clarksville, Indiana; by her daughter, Kelly Clements and her husband Dennis of Vevay; by her step-daughters: Leveana Johnson and her husband Larry of Greensburg, Indiana and Bonnie Goodchild of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; by her step-son, James L. Scudder and his wife Sue of Greensburg, Indiana; by her grandchildren: Melissa Thomas, Douglas Oliver, Jr., Tonya Rose, Joshua Clements and Jonathan Clements; and by her several step-grandchildren.

She will also be dearly missed by her great-grandchildren: Anthony, Michael, Sarah, Amber, Jeremiah, Gracie, Danielle, Wesley and Joseph; her several-step-great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren: Trenton, Lexie, McKenzie, Kaydence, Kaden, Vinni and Bentley; by her sisters: Emilie Foster of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ruth Starritt of Sanger, Texas and Alice Naczi of Floral City, Florida; and her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Beth (Finch) Hylander; by her husband, James W. “Jim” Scudder, who died on August 10th, 2008; her step-daughter, Janice Knickerbocker; her step-son, Robert Scudder; and by her brothers: Art Hylander, George Hylander and William Hylander, Jr.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 31st, 2018, by Reverend Mike Sawalich at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Friends were invited to call on the family on Saturday, March 31st prior to the time of the service at the funeral home.

Interment and graveside services were conducted on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 at the Vevay Cemetery.

Mary Grace Lothridge

Mary Grace (Hayes) Lothridge, age 94, of Vevay, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st, 2018, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

Mary Grace entered this life on December 25th, 1923, near Mt. Sterling, Indiana, the loving daughter of the late James William and Sarah Pearl (Edelman) Hayes. She was raised near Mt. Sterling, and attended Vevay High School.

Mary Grace was united in marriage on January 26th, 1973, at her home, to the late, Lawrence “Doc” Lothridge. Mary Grace and Doc shared nearly 10 years of marriage together until he passed away on July 2nd, 1983.

Mary Grace was a former employee for the 5 & Dime Store in Vevay, from 1943-1948. She was wonderful cake decorator and designed over 100 wedding cakes for 30 years. Mary Grace was employed as a sock stitcher for the U.S. Shoe Factory in Vevay, retiring on November 15th, 1984, after 36 1/2 years of service.

Mary Grace accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior on August 30th, 1942 and was a faithful member of the Mt. Sterling Baptist Church where she was the clerk, Deacon, Sunday school teacher, custodian and was the church musician for many years. She was ordained as a Deacon on January 9th, 1994.

She was a member of the Center Square Homemakers Club and the Hope Rebekah Lodge #851 where she was the musician, treasurer and trustee. Mary Grace was a wonderful caregiver and enjoyed sewing, playing the piano, reading the Bible, Bingo, attending Bible Study and harmony and hymns and other activities at Swiss Villa. Her motto was to be honest in everything and respect other peoples wishes.

Mary Grace is survived by her caregivers, Rae Jean Brunner and her husband: Tom of Versailles, Indiana; and Ernie Keith and his wife Dana of Fairview, Indiana; along with her several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James William Hayes, who died on February 27th, 1955; and Sarah Pearl (Edelman) Hayes, who died on July 10th, 1986; by her husband, Lawrence “Doc” Lothridge, who died on July 2nd, 1983; by her brother, Everett Hayes, who died on April 2nd, 1980; and her step-sons: Bob, Dick and Bill Lothridge.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, by Reverend Mike Sawalich at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Interment followed in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Tuesday, April 3rd, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Sterling Baptist Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Jean Lyons

Jean Underwood Lyons, age 90, of Madison, died on Friday, March 30th, 2018, at 7:38 p.m. at the Thornton Terrace Health Campus in Hanover, Indiana.

Jean entered this life on March 20th, 1928 in Madison. She was the loving daughter of the late Walter “Jack” and Clara Isabelle Beach Underwood. She was raised in Madison, and was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Madison High School in 1946.

On November 15th, 1951 Jean was united in marriage to George Perry Lyons in Madison. This happy union of 45 years was blessed with sons, Steve and John; and daughters, Helen and Catherine.

She had worked as a telephone and switchboard operator at the old Madison Telephone Company. She served as secretary of her family business, Jefferson County Amusement, Inc., for 50 years. She resided all of her life in the Madison community and enjoyed taking care of her home, caring for her family and traveling to Hawaii and New Orleans.

She was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and Jefferson Post #9 Auxiliary of the American Legion, representing her husband’s faithful service during World War II, serving in the US Navy. She had also held membership in the Fraternal Order of Police, Indiana Amusement and Music Operators Association, Madison Moose Lodge No. 765 and the former Madison Eagles Lodge. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend. Jean loved her dog and all animals, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, going to the boat and visiting the farm.

Jean will be missed by her loving sons: Steve Lyons and his wife Teresa of Vevay and John Lyons and his wife Laura of Valrico, Florida; by her loving daughters: Helen Bertsch of Waterford, Michigan and Catherine Lyons Spry and her companion Jeff Matthews of Hanover, ; her loving grandchildren: Brent Alan Spry, Samantha Bertsch, Sydney Bertsch, Brianne Gassert (Lance), Drew Lyons (Jackie), and Annie Hicks (Jason); her loving great grandchildren: John Henry, Elijah, Ava, Cooper, Sawyer, Emma, and Harper; her sisters-in-law: Cleta Lyons of Madison, Barbara Lyons of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Loraine Lyons of Madison; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter “Jack” Underwood, who died on October 25th, 1955; her mother, Clara Isabelle Beach Underwood, who died on September 17th, 1979; her beloved husband of 45 years, George Perry Lyons, who died on March 16th, 1997; her sisters: Mildred Underwood, who died on January 29th, 1917, Helen Underwood Slayden, who died on October 29th, 1974; her brothers: Robert Walter “Bob” Underwood, who died on September 17th, 1979, Donald Beach Underwood, who died on September 18th, 1992, and William Harold “Bill” Underwood, who died on August 11th, 1997.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018, by Father Christopher A. Craig and Aaron Bell at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment followed in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Tuesday evening, April 3rd; and on Wednesday, April 4th prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home. The Rosary was prayed on Tuesday, April 3rd, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jefferson County Animal Shelter. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Denver Coy

Denver Nolan Coy, age 79, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, March 31st, 2018, at his residence.

Denver entered this life on August 5th, 1938, in Florence, Indiana, the son of the late, Edwin “Dutch” and Helen (Bennett) Coy. He was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana and was a 1956 graduate of the Patriot High School.

Denver was united in marriage on December 9th, 1957, to Karen Lou Trimnell and to this union arrived a daughter, Sherry Ann to bless their home. Denver and Karen shared nearly 61 years of marriage together until his death.

Denver farmed and had a hog operation on Stow Town Road from 1976-1999. He was employed for the Switzerland County Highway Department for several years and for the Switzerland County School Board and the Switzerland County Soil and Water Board. He was a member of the East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department and the Switzerland County Emergency Unit for several years. He was member of the Family Worship Center in Carrollton, Kentucky.

Denver enjoyed bird hunting, coon hunting, fishing, golfing, basketball and NASCAR. Denver resided the past 18 years in Bradenton and Ocala, Florida.

Denver is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Karen (Trimnell) Coy of Florence; his daughter, Sherry Ann Coy of Florence; his caretaker, Ben Lattire and his wife Cindy of Florence; and his nephews and nieces: Dennis Coy, Jeffery Coy, Roberta Coy, Pam Coy, Brian Coy, Shyla Renee Trimnell and James Alvin Trimnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin “Dutch” Coy, who died on January 19th, 1985 and Helen (Bennett) Coy, who died on July 13th, 1969; his daughter, Deborah Kay Coy, who died on March 15th, 1960; by his son, Denver Allen Coy, who died on February 7th, 1962; his brother, Glen R. Coy, who died on July 3rd, 1976; and his nephew, Robert Gene Coy, who died on November 28th, 1984.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 1:00 pm, by Pastor Pat Butcher at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time the service on Thursday, April 5th, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Switzerland County Emergency Response or East Enterprise Volunteer Fire Department. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Terry Snyder

Terry Wayne Snyder, 73, of Rising Sun, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 31st, 2018 at his residence.

Terry was born in Milan, Indiana, on April 21st, 1944, the son of the late Dorothy F. (Davies) and Clarence Snyder. He was a graduate of Dillsboro High School, Class of 1962.

Terry proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was the husband of Kathleen Cheryl (Hall) Snyder. On March 1st, 1969, they were married at the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati, Ohio. Terry and KC were married over 49 years.

He worked as Chief Engineer for Grand Victoria Casino in Rising Sun. He was a member of the Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 and Vietnam Veterans of America #71. Terry enjoyed riding motorcycles and collecting guns. He was also a mechanic and liked working on his cars and tractors. Terry and his wife KC also loved raising their horses.

Terry is survived by his wife, Kathleen Snyder, of Rising Sun; by a daughter, Barbara Ann Klopp (Mike), of Middletown, Ohio; by grandchildren: Daisy, Michael and Matthew Klopp; by great granddaughter, Aurora Pernell; and by two brothers: Gary Snyder (Debbie), of East Enterprise and Roger Snyder, of Milford, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 5th at Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun. Friends were invited to call on the family on Wednesday, April 4th, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

Memorial donations may be made to Rising Sun American Legion Post #59 or Vietnam Veterans of America #71. Cards are available at the funeral home.

Ralph ‘Eddie’ Oliver

Ralph Edwin “Eddie” Oliver, age 61, of Vevay, passed away at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27th, 2018, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Eddie entered this life on April 9th, 1956 in Madison, the son of Ralph “Red” and Dolores (Taylor) Oliver. He was raised in Brooksburg, Indiana, and was a 1972 graduate of Switzerland County High School in Vevay.

Eddie was inducted into the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1973.

Eddie was united in marriage on August 11th, 1978, in Lamb, Indiana, to Terri Lynn Wilson, and to this union arrived two sons: Quinten and Clayton to bless their home. Eddie and Terri shared nearly 40 years of marriage together until his death.

Eddie was employed for the U.S. Shoe Factory in Madison, retiring on April 14th, 1991, after 12 years of service. He was a member of the Vevay Nazarene Church. Eddie will be remembered for his love of rock-n-roll music.

Eddie will be deeply missed by his wife, Terri Lynn (Wilson) Oliver of Vevay; his sons: Quinten Oliver and his wife Rachel of Florence, Indiana and Clayton Oliver of Greensburg, Indiana; his grandchildren, Zoie and Ethan Oliver; his mother, Dolores (Taylor) Oliver of Madison; and his nephew and niece, Johnny Field and Becky Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph “Red” Oliver, who died on October 20th, 1992; by his daughter, Sarah Beth Oliver, who died on November 8th, 1980; and his sister, Jeri Dale Field Norquest, who died on May 26th, 1991.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, March 30th, 2018, by Doug Preston at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana, 47043. Full military rites and Interment were conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 & the Vevay VFW Post #5396 at the Brooksburg Cemetery, Brooksburg, Indiana.

Friends were invited to call on the family on Friday, March 30th, prior to the beginning of the service at the funeral home.
