MABEL IRENE PECK
Mabel Irene Peck, 90, of 1465 S. Wolf Lane, Winamac, IN, passed away at 5:31 PM Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Starke Memorial Hospital in Knox, IN.
She was born October 9, 1917, in Michigan City, IN, to Silas and Mabel Cowgill Craig.
Mrs. Peck was formerly of Michigan City and had lived in Monterey and Star City for many years.
She worked as a housekeeper.
She was married to Russell Peck Sr. on June 20, 1934, in LaPorte, IN. He died Dec. 6, 1981.
May she rest in peace. She will be sadly missed by all.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. No visitation will be held.

BETTY J. WILSON ZEHNER

Betty J. Wilson Zehner, 73, of 6123 N 200 E, Monterey, IN, passed away at 4:05 PM Friday, January 11, 2008 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac, IN.
She was born November 17, 1934, in Rochester, IN, to Thomas and Ruth Hosmer Wilson.
She was a lifelong resident of Monterey.
She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey, IN. She was also a member of the Nurses Association.
She was a former 4H Leader, Home Extension Club member, and the Monterey PTA.
She was the co-founder of the Monterey "Birthday Group".
She was a 1953 graduate of Monterey High School, and in 1956 she graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Gary, IN.
She was a Registered Nurse for 51 years. She was one of the original nurses who helped open Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac. For 30 of her 51 years of nursing she worked in the surgical area. She formerly worked at Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox, Miller's Merry Manor, Culver, Monterey Doctor's Clinic, and the old Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester. She retired in May of 2007 as the nurse at the Pulaski County Jail.
She was the instructor for the first EMT class held at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in the 1970's.
She enjoyed her swimming pool in the summer and riding in her jitney. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, along with cooking and entertaining family and friends.
She loved attending her grandchildren's activities.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM EST Wednesday, January 16, 2008, in St. Anne's Catholic Church, Monterey, with Rev. Bert Woolson officiating.
Burial will take place in the St. Anne's Cemetery, Monterey, IN
Friends may call 2-8PM EST Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at Frain Mortuary.

SHIRLEY A. SHIDLER

Shirley A. Shidler, 75, of 135 North Harrison Street, Francesville, IN died at 12:30 PM Thursday, January 10, 2008 at her residence.
Shirley was born February 29, 1932 in North Judson, IN to Ezra I. and Rosa Loyd Jones. She married John William Shidler on April 1, 1950 in Winamac, IN. John died April 19, 1997.
Shirley retired in 1995 as a custodian at the West Central High School. She worked as the lunch cook at the Francesville IGA. Shirley attended the First Baptist Church in Francesville. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Shirley also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held at the Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville, IN on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 10:30 AM EST with Dennis Gutwein officiating.
Burial will take place at Independence Cemetery in Medaryville, IN.

E. WAYNE STRASSER

E. Wayne Strasser, 90, of 8183 Heyward Drive, Indianapolis, IN, passed away at 6:14 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Miller's Senior Living Community in Indianapolis, IN.
Wayne was born July 10, 1917 in Star City, IN to Oscar and Verda Davis Strasser.
Wayne served in the US Army as a Sergeant during WWII. He retired from the US Postal Service after 40 years as a mail carrier out of the Winamac Post Office. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. Wayne's favorite pastimes were spending time with family and friends, especially with his dog Snickers.

Robert M. Podell Sr., 79, of 2407 Baywater Road, Tavares, FL, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 9:50AM Saturday, March 15, 2008, in his residence.

Mary Jane Riley, 59, of 18422 S 1050 W, LaCrosse, IN, passed away at 4:00 PM Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville, IN.
She was born October 5, 1948, in Crawfordsville, IN, to Fred and Bessie Dowell Riley.
Mary was a deli worker at the IGA Grocery in Francesville, IN. She had worked at the Family Express in Medaryville and at Good Oil in Medaryville. Mary had worked as a janitor at Valparaiso University for many years. Mary enjoyed gardening and time spent at the coffee clutch with her friends. She was a former Medaryville resident. She was loved by her family and was known to her grandchildren as "Mema".
