Johnson - Beck, Barbara
Oct. 29, 1948 - Feb. 8, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Barbara W. Johnson - Beck, 60, of South Bend, IN, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February 8, 2009. Born October 29, 1948, in Niles, MI, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Leland and Lois Charlotte (Walker) Johnson. Also preceding her in death were her beloved son, Robert Allen Beck, Jr.; and a sister, Marjorie Lois Johnson. She will be greatly missed by her children, Julie (Greg) Spurgeon of Mishawaka, Patricia (Alan) Penrose of South Bend, Barbara Beck of KY, Kimberly (Bryan) Tudor of OH, Paul (Wendy) Beck of Mishawaka and Tracie (Eric) Hunsberger of Mishawaka; the father of her children, Robert Allen Beck Sr. of South Bend; sisters, who were like her angels, Carol (Tom) Holley and Eileen (John) Bennett, both of Mishawaka; 17 grandchildren and six great - grandchildren. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially near the water, bird watching, fishing and Notre Dame football. However, nothing pleased her more than spending time with her family and friends, but most importantly, her grandchildren and her sisters. She was a longtime member of American Legion Post 303, and retired from Simplicity Products. Friends may call in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, enter off Cherry Road, on Wednesday, February 11, from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, February 12, at 1:30 p.m., where friends may call a half - hour prior. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House. The family would like to thank all those who made a difference in her life.

Robertson, Marcia
Aug. 9, 1925 - Feb. 7, 2009

ELKHART - Visitation for Marcia Frye Robertson, 83, will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a service to follow on Thursday, February 12th, in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, Granger, Indiana. Marcia was born August 9, 1925, in Elkhart, Indiana. She was the daughter of Benjamin Smith Frye and Anne Craig Frye. Marcia died February 7, 2009, at her home in St. Charles, Illinois. Marcia Robertson was a longtime resident of Evanston, IL, where she and her husband Neil raised their three children. Marcia was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Evanston and active in The Women's Club of Evanston. Her many volunteer activities included serving on the board of The Park Ridge School for Girls, The Women's Board of Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital, and the House Board for the Pi Beta Phi Chapter at Northwestern University. Marcia was preceded in death by Neil, her husband of 54 years, her parents, and her brother, David Craig Frye. Marcia is survived by her children, Connie (James) Meister of St. Charles, IL, Bruce (Anne) Robertson of Midland, TX, Carolyn (Christopher) Meyer of Indianapolis, IN; her grandchildren, Carolyn Meister, John Meister, Craig Meister, Philip Robertson, Elizabeth Robertson and Carl Meyer; her sister, Connie McKeague; and by her brother, John Frye. Marcia's family and friends will fondly remember her creative talents, her humor, and her sense of adventure. Kolodziej, Marilyn Jo
Oct. 28, 1939 - Feb. 6, 2009

GRANGER - Marilyn J. Kolodziej, 69, of Granger, IN, passed away on February 6, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 28, 1939, in Dowagiac, MI, she was the daughter of John Berwyn and Mildred Luetta (Brewer) Sellers, who preceded her in death. Marilyn was a 1957 graduate of Niles High School, and later attended the Michiana College of Commerce. She will be greatly missed by her children, Michael (Christina) Kolodziej of Granger, Mark Kolodziej of Mishawaka and Kristine (Joe) Weber of Mishawaka; a sister, Kay Griggs of Ohio; grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Lietzau, Kate (Tom) Gillis, Kelly (Shelby) Howard, Lesli Kolodziej, Angela Kolodziej, Haley Kolodziej, Michael Kolodziej and Mark Paul Kolodziej; and two great - grandchildren, Gabriel Lietzau and Shelby Howard V. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. today, February 10th, in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Rugged Cross Church, 60041 Vermont Street, Pokagon, MI 49120.

Howard, Larry H.
Oct. 24, 1947 - Feb. 5, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Larry H. Howard, 61, of South Bend, IN passed away February 5, 2009. He was born October 24, 1947 in LaPorte, IN, to the late Ernest and Ginus Howard. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by many friends and caregivers. They include Randy Sims, Susan Davis, Gail Ricketts, Edgar Alleyabu, Terrance Hunter, Frank Mwaisaka, Regina Mbowera, Keziah Mwangi, Loice Taruwinga, Wezzie Munthali, Stephen Ogola, Ndumiso Maseko, Stephen Muchiru, Andrew Muturi, Janet Kazora, Charles Masunya, Annette Lungu and Tiffany Lehaman. Larry will be especially remembered for his love of coffee and his ability to flirt with women. He really enjoyed going to Denny's and Bob Evans for breakfast. He enjoyed shopping at the mall, especially at the pet store. Larry loved meeting new people and always having a friend by his side. Friends may call from 11 to 3 with a funeral service at 3:00 p.m., at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, Edison Rd. on Monday, February 9, 2009. Burial will follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Riverview Park Cemetery in Fort Wayne, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pet Refuge, Inc. or Pets Connect, Inc.

Reese, Woodford H.
Jan. 15, 1915 - Jan. 31, 2009

EDWARDSBURG - Woodford "Woody" Reese, 94, of Edwardsburg died 2:30 am on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Cass County Medical Facility, Cassopolis. He was born January 15, 1915 in Booneville, MS to Thomas and Alice (Starling) Reese. On November 7, 1943 he married Dorcie L. Hill in Osceola, AR. She survives with two daughters, Bonnie (Jack) Seiler of Holland, MI, and Brenda Reese of Granger; two grandchildren, Mark Kelley of Holland, MI and Kristy (Joe) Leininger of Mishawaka. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Richard Woolner. Mr. Reese was 1 of 13 children. Surviving are Joe "Shorty" Reese of Elkhart, Doris Sailor of Elkhart, Willie Reese of MO, and Essie Hill of Osceola, AR. In his early years he served in the Army Reserves, farmed, worked construction, and also worked many years at Du Well Metal Products in Bangor, MI until the plant closed. Later he worked at Sailor Manufacturing in Elkhart, IN. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. A memorial service will be held at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, on Saturday, February 14th at 1 pm. Memorial Donations may be made to the Cass County Medical Facility, or to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.

Herbruck, Daniel C.
Jan. 26, 1943 - Feb. 3, 2009

MISHAWAKA - Daniel C. Herbruck, 66, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away February 3, 2009. He was born January 26, 1943, to Carl and Loveoan (Hartman) Herbruck, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, MI, in 1961. In June 1964 he married Barbara Jefferies. They had two daughters, Angela Herbruck of Chicago and Amy (Tom) Cosper of Leesburg, IN, who survive him. He is also survived by three brothers, Darrell (Maureen) of Mt. Pleasant MI, Douglas (Jackie) of De Witt, MI, and Dallas (Teresa) Herbruck of Lansing, MI; and six grandchildren, David, Evan, Sean, Kelly, Phillip and Scott. In November 1984 he married Lorriane Warren, who preceded him in death in 1998. Daniel worked over 22 years for Wheel Horse Products. He was union president for The International Union of Electrical Workers while working for the Thermoplastics Co. in Mishawaka. He retired in 2001. He will be remembered for his love of photography, sailing and gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren. Cremation is set to take place. Friends may visit with the family in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, on Friday, February 6, 2009, from 4 - 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Carter, Shirley L.
Jan. 22, 1922 - Feb. 2, 2009

PLYMOUTH - Mr. Shirley L. Carter, 87, of Plymouth, IN, died February 2, 2009. Born January 22, 1922, in Grass Creek, IN, he was the son of the late Ernest and Goldie (Good) Carter. On September 18, 1943, he married the former Marjorie Wentzel. She survives. Also surviving are three sons and one daughter, James (Susie) of Traverse City, MI, Robert (Jane) of Big Rapids, MI, Valerie (David) Kemble of Kewanna, IN, and Jeffrey (Janice) of Mishawaka; a sister, Phyllis Adams of Argos, IN; eight grandchildren, four step - grandchildren and 12 great - grandchildren, and one more on the way; and his beloved dog, Daisy. Shirley formerly lived in Culver, Niles and Goshen before settling in Plymouth. As a youth, he caddied at the Culver Military Academy Golf Course and became an avid and accomplished golfer. He played regularly at the Plym Park Golf Course in Niles, MI. Also, Shirley was a proud veteran who served nine years in the Army Air Corps. During WWII he served two tours of duty in Panama with the 53rd fighter group, and obtained the rank of master sergeant. He also served in the Korean War. A memorial service will be held in New Song Community Church, 400 N. Kingston off E. Jefferson, Plymouth, IN, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2009. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church.

Simons, John J.
Nov. 3, 1953 - Jan. 31, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Formerly lived many years in Elkhart. In memory of our beloved loving son, father, brother and uncle, John "Jamie" James Simons, born Nov. 3, 1953, who graduated from John Adams High School in 1971. He played trumpet from elementary through high school bands, and also played a bass guitar and trumpet in the 12th Street Crossing band. He was a professional welder for 30 years. His hobbies were refurbishing classic cars, building pot belly stoves, and models of WWI and WWII airplanes, battleships and submarines, and he was avid about Star Trek and NASCAR races. He is survived by his mother, Sheila R. Ward; stepfather, Roger E. Ward; children, David and Bobby Simons; mother of his children, Debra Simons; and a grandson, Alexander Simons. He is also survived by his brother, Daniel Joseph Simons; sisters, Mara Jeanne Shirley, Crystal Lynn Montgomery, April Ann Woodworth and Rebecca Rae Banks; twin nieces, Sarah Belle Gordan and Angela Marie Salazar; nephews, Michael Anthony Myers, Patrick Ross Myers, Tyrus Stephen Bell Jr., Thomas Jerome Bell, Ryan Jacob Banks and Charles Douglas Shirley; great - nieces, Kayla, Christina, Taylor and Joy Gordan, Janey Salazar and Rachel Bell; and great - nephews, Michael Myers Jr., Thomas Bell Jr., Bryce and Jace Banks. Cremation is being handled by the McGann Hay, Morning Star Funeral Home, South Bend, IN. Memorial services will be held by Pastor Tom Thews in St. Paul's Memorial United Methodist Church, 1001 West Colfax Ave., South Bend, IN, on February 14, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
