McMann, Ray H.
Oct. 11, 1922 - Dec. 1, 2008

GRANGER - Our dad was born at home either in Butler, PA, or somewhere in New York. He married the only woman he ever loved (that's just what he told us), and they were together almost 65 years. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Lehnerd McMann. Dad proudly served in the Navy during World War II and graduated from Carnegie Tech University, Pittsburgh, PA. He was an engineer by training and a rocket scientist by profession. He worked at Bendix Missile in Mishawaka, and worked on the Talos missile back in the 1950's. He retired from the Vought Corporation in Grapevine, TX. Ray and Lucille had eight children together, and he is survived by seven of them, scattered across the county. He was much loved by his children, his grandchildren and his great - grandchildren. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his large family. Dad was a devout Catholic and his religion was a very important part of his life. He was able to attend mass at the Vatican once and it remained one of his fondest memories. Dad loved the English language, and he had great fun using really big words; the more syllables the better. Dad was always thrifty to a fault. It really killed him to waste any money. So, of course, we would leave lights on or waste our dinner or anything else we could think of to have a little fun with him. He was conservative and he was Republican (although the current administration may have forever changed him on his politics). We always engaged him in animated and lively family discussions and we always argued the other side's point of view so we could keep him really worked up. Dad was fond of saying "be large" and even though we really weren't sure what he meant by it, we are all sure that he lived his life as a "very large" man. He left this world the same way he entered it, at home. He will be so very deeply missed. Visitation will be at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Granger. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Parkinson's Research.
