Granger - Donald A. Kruk, 77, passed away May 6, 2009.
Born June 3, 1931, in South Bend, IN, he was the son of the late Alex and Rose (Kokot) Kruk. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Patricia Gordon.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Jean (Molnar) Kruk; son, Jeffrey T. (Cheryl) of South Bend; daughters, Michele (Paul) Pejza of Canton, MI, Lenore (Kevin) Stuber of Edwardsburg and Lisa Coryell of Mishawaka; brother, Richard (Neoma) of South Bend; sister, Mary Lou (David) Kowalski of Granger; and five grandsons, Jamie and Corey Pejza, Casey (Christina) and Donald J. “D.J” Stuber, and Dylan J. “D.J.” Coryell.
Donald retired from Uniroyal Plastics Company in January, 1989 after 36 years of service. He worked in the sales department.
He was a member of the Uniroyal Mishawaka Management Club, St. Pius X Senior Group and the American Legion Post #161, Mishawaka, IN. Mr. Kruk was a Korean War Veteran and served with the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Division.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 11, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior.

James D'Arcy Chisholm

SOUTH BEND - James D'Arcy Chisholm, 77, of South Bend, Indiana, died on May 3, 2009. D'Arcy was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, then moved to Erie, Pennsylvania, as an infant. Following graduation from Cathedral Preparatory School in Erie, he attended the University of Notre Dame. He left Notre Dame in his sophomore year to join the Marine Corps and volunteered to serve in Korea where he was awarded two Purple Hearts. After his discharge he returned to Notre Dame to complete his bachelor of arts degree in economics, graduating in 1956. He moved to Southern California that same year to begin a career in the business world that included being president of the Chamber of Commerce in Lancaster, California, West Coast Manager of Industrial Development for the Del Webb Corporation, Vice President of Southern California Operations with Milton Meyer & Co. Realtors, President of Capital Real Estate Management Co. and Trustee of Angeles Mortgage Investment Trust. While with the Del Webb Corp. he was nominated for consideration as Assistant Post Master General to the U.S. Post Office in Washington, D.C., becoming one of three finalists. He also served on special assignment to Governor Pat Brown of California and as a transition team member for then Governor Ronald Reagan of California. In 1980 D'Arcy left the presidency of CREMCO to volunteer his services at the University of Notre Dame. He joined the staff of the Institute for Pastoral and Social Ministry, now the Institute for Church Life. During his tenure as Assistant Director of IPSM he teamed with then Dean of the Notre Dame Law School, Dr. David Link, to found the Center for the Homeless in South Bend. Seeing the needs of the homeless and the limits of shelter facilities, they championed a campaign to rectify the problem. The Center opened its doors on December 18, 1988. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; brother, Pat (Gloria) Chisholm; children, Pamela Gould, Robert (Pamela) Chisholm, Julie (Marine) Cano, Eleanor McCreary, Michael Spydell, Lori (Michael) Wagner and Craig Spydell; 14 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 PM on Sunday, May 10, with a recitation of the Rosary at 4:30 PM in McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel at 2313 E. Edison Road near Ironwood. The Rite of Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, on Monday, May 11, at 9:30 AM, with Rev. Edward Malloy, CSC, officiating and Rev. Robert Pelton, CSC, as homilist. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery on campus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in D'Arcy's memory to the Center for the Homeless, 813 S. Marilyn K. Swartz
Jan. 22, 1937 - May 3, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Marilyn Katherine (Kubsch) Swartz, 72, passed away at 1:23 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2009, in South Bend, IN, with her family by her side. Marilyn was born on January 22, 1937, to the late Nadine Kubsch Horton in South Bend, IN, and had resided in South Bend her entire life. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nadine, as well as by her brother, Fredrick Charles Kubsch. Marilyn also had a very special friend, Maxine Miltenberger, who preceded her in death. Marilyn graduated from Washington - Clay High School in 1955. Two years later, on May 18, 1957, Marilyn married her soul mate, Robert Leroy Swartz Sr., who survives. "Bob is the best thing that could happen to me. He is my soul mate and I will always love him," Marilyn once wrote. Robert had a special nickname for Marilyn, "Babe." Marilyn and Robert built their home in 1964, down the street from Notre Dame. This is where they raised their four surviving children, Robert (Sandra) Swartz of Osceola, IN, Joni (Marvin) Buwa of Niles, MI, Julie (Nector) Echevarria of South Bend, IN, and Charles (Tracy) Swartz of Mishawaka, IN. Marilyn was blessed with 12 grandchildren, Nicholas, Robert and Nicole Swartz, Christopher and Donald Swartz, Amanda Batiz, Elisa and Elena Echevarria, and C.J., Shelby, Emily and Maggie Swartz. She is also survived by two step - grandchildren, Nicole and Brittany Hedman, and one great - grandchild, Adrian Mabry, who is due in July. Family was the most important thing to Marilyn. She loved to be surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren. Their love and support gave her strength as she fought her illness. Marilyn especially loved babysitting and spending time with her four youngest grandchildren, C.J., Shelby, Emily and Maggie. They gave her a new sense of life and a reason to battle, along with countless hours of laughs, love and company. "God sure has blessed me with this family and grandchildren," Marilyn said. Besides family, Marilyn's other interests include doing crossword puzzles, having complete control of the television, electronic video games, playing BINGO, and bowling. Her witty sense of humor will truly be missed by everyone. Visitation will be today, May 6, 2009, in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, where friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 Ironwood Road, on Thursday, May 7, 2009, at 10 a.m. Following the Mass, Marilyn will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Beverly E. Walter

MISHAWAKA - Beverly Elizabeth (Martin) Walter, 76, passed away in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, after a short illness. Mrs. Walter was born to the late Robert Isaac and Alice Elizabeth Martin in South Bend. She graduated from Clay High School in May 1950. Mrs. Walter went on to attend college at Saint Theresa College in Winona, MN, graduating in 1955 with her medical technology degree. After graduation she worked for the South Bend Medical Foundation as a medical technologist. In May 1956 she married William D. Walter in South Bend. She and her husband made their home in Mishawaka, residing there for 49 years. Later, Mrs. Walter worked as a medical technologist for five years at Miles Laboratory in Elkhart. Mrs. Walter is survived by her husband of 53 years, William, and her two children, Amy Baim of Muncie, IN, and David (Kim) of South Bend. She had four grandchildren, Nate and Laura Baim of Muncie, IN, and Brittany and Ashley Walter of South Bend, IN. Mrs. Walter had two half brothers, Richard (Jane) and John (Julie) Martin, both of Bloomington, IN. Mrs. Walter also had two stepsisters, Jan (Kevin) Belton of Napa Valley, CA, and Sue Ellen Schell of Mishawaka. A Memorial Scripture Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 11th, in the First Presbyterian Church in Mishawaka, where Mrs. Walter was a member. Immediately following the service refreshments will be served by the Presbyterian Women's Group. Elisabed Imerlishvili of the Toradze Piano Studio will play Beverly's college piano recital pieces. Contributions may be made in Beverly's memory to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund. McGann Hay Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
John E. Dragovich
Feb. 21, 1925 - April 28, 2009
SOUTH BEND - John Eli Dragovich, 84, of South Bend, passed away in his home on April 28, 2009. Mr. Dragovich was born February 21, 1925 in Provident, OH to the late Eli and Mary (Kepic) Dragovich. On May 12, 1951, he married Thelma Mitchell who preceded him in death in 2002. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Chelko, and a brother, Joseph Dragovich. Surviving him are seven children: Joseph M. of Mishawaka, Mary Beth Marsolais of South Bend, John E., Jr. (Amy) of Jacksonville, FL, Lucille M. (Michael) Buckman of Dallas, TX, William A. (Kathleen) of Ellicott City, MD, Anne C. Dragovich of South Bend and Stephen H. Dragovich of South Bend as well as nine grandchildren. After graduating from Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, OH, Mr. Dragovich was recruited to the University of Notre Dame by Frank Leahy on a Football Scholarship but decided to play baseball instead. He graduated from Notre Dame with a BS and MS Degree. Mr. Dragovich proudly served his country in World War II in the Third Army under General Patton. He worked in the South Bend Community School Corporation for 27 years as a teacher and coach. He was a member of the American Federation of Teachers, the Retired Teacher's Association and the Notre Dame Alumni Association of St. Joseph Valley. Friends may call from 4 - 8 PM, with a Wake Service being held at 5 PM, today, May 1, at the McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. at Ironwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hill & LaSalle, South Bend. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. David L. Klimek
Sept. 3, 1960 - April 27, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Mr. David L. Klimek, 48, of South Bend, passed away Monday evening. Mr. Klimek was born on September 3, 1960 in South Bend to Louis and Josephine Klimek. He earned a BS from Indiana University and had attended graduate studies at the University of Notre Dame. David was employed for many years as a Mechanical Engineer. He is survived by his mother, sister and brother - in - law, his wife and son, age 15. He was preceded in death by his father Louis Klimek who was a decorated WWII Navy Veteran. He was an active and dedicated lifetime member of Little Flower Catholic Church. Mr. Klimek was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council # 553, he was also a member of BPO of Elks Lodge # 235. David was active in coaching he son's sports teams through the years which included: Irish Youth Hockey, St. Pius X Football and Clay Little League. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame Sports. Through these activities he instilled in his son a love of sports and sportsmanship. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Little Flower Catholic Church at 11:00 am today, May 1st, with Rev Cornelius Ryan, CSC, Pastor, officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to mass in the church. Committal services will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Timothy Charles Hardt
July 20, 1972 - April 26, 2009
SOUTH BEND - Timothy Charles Hardt, 36, of South Bend, IN, passed away April 26, 2009, from complications during heart surgery. Born July 20, 1972, he was the son of Charles and Melinda (Lehman) Hardt. His father preceded him in death. On July 7, 2001, Tim married the former Lauren McClenahan, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Melinda of Crown Point, IN; brother, Jeff Hardt of Indy; sister, Beth (Chad) Salsman of Indy; niece, Ava Grace Salsman of Indy; father - in - law and mother - in - law, Edward and Linda McClenahan; and his beloved dog, Emma. Tim was a science teacher at Washington High School, South Bend, from 1995 to the present. In that time he achieved the Teacher of the Year Award. He had many passions including wood working, camping, and he loved to cheer on the Lady Panther's basketball team. He was a Visiting Scholar at Notre Dame, but his loyalty was to his alma mater, IU Bloomington. The family is receiving friends from 4 - 8 p.m. on Monday, May 4th, in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, enter off Cherry Road. A private committal service will be held later. Eleanor H. Campbell

GRANGER - Mrs. Eleanor Helen Campbell, 89, of Granger, passed away at Regency Place, late Wednesday night, following an illness. Mrs. Campbell was born September 21, 1919 in South Bend, to the late Larry J. and Clara M. (Fluegel) Bojewicz. On April 20, 1946 she married John D. "Jack" Campbell. He passed away on November 16, 1982. She enjoyed playing Bridge and often played at the Elks Lodge #235, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, South Bend. Eleanor is survived by her son, J. Scott Campbell of Granger; and sister, Ginnie (Don) Roe of Denver, Co. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara A. Campbell; and brother, Robert Boyer. A graveside service will be held today, April 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery, with Rev.
