Thomas A. Hiatt
Dec. 29, 1967 - Aug. 14, 2009

GRANGER, IN - Mr. Thomas Allen Hiatt, 41, of Granger, passed away on Friday, Aug. 14th, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident while driving on Decatur Road on Friday night in Cass County, MI. Tom was born in Buchanan, MI, on December 29, 1967, to Kathleen Harris and Lawrence Lynn Hiatt. He had lived in the Michiana area his whole life, graduating from Penn High School in 1986 where he was a proud member of the "Wild Bunch" playing linebacker on defense and having been a member of the 1983 State Championship Football Team. He also graduated from Indiana University with a BS in mathematics. Mr. Hiatt was the owner of Mancino's Restaurant on North Main Street in Mishawaka, IN, as well as co - owner of Wing's, Etc. in Kalamazoo, MI. He also was a salesman for Gordon's Food Service. On October 12, 1991, in Mishawaka, he married Denise Marie (Hoffman) Hiatt, who survives of Granger along with their three daughters, 17 - year - old twins, Mikki and Maddi, and 14 - year - old, Ali, all students at Penn High School. Other survivors include his mother, Kathleen Jernigan of Holbrook, AZ; his father, Lawrence (Peggy) Hiatt of Elkhart; two brothers, Mike (Heather) of Elkhart County, IN, and Larry Hiatt of Mishawaka. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd, at 11 a.m. in the McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road), where friends may call on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you direct donations in Tom's memory to The Pet Refuge, 2300 W. 6th St., Mishawaka, IN 46544.

Dolores McCann
Oct. 14, 1935 - Aug. 13, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Dolores "Dee" McCann, 73, of South Bend, passed away August 13, 2009. Born October 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Hurbert and Mildred (Tisdale) Wozniak. On November 24, 1955, Dee married Jim McCann, who survives in South Bend. She is also survived by one daughter, Susan (Randy) Staton of South Bend; three sons, Daniel McCann, Michael (Angie) McCann and David (Bryan Dingler) McCann, all of South Bend; one sister, Dorothy Van Rent of Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Robby and Amanda Staton and Amy, Natalie, Ryan, Cameron and Lily McCann; and two step grandchildren, Taylor Brown and J.R. Buda. The family would like to give special thanks to Gloria Jacob for her undying friendship she had with Dee. Dee was the Executive Secretary for Indiana Wiping Cloth for thirty years. She was an avid bowler and golfer; and she had a passion for traveling all over the world. The love she gave to her family will be missed greatly, but never forgotten. A burial with no services will take place. Memorial Donations may be made to the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association , 108 N. Mary E. Miller
Aug. 9, 1930 - Aug. 10, 2009

ZIONSVILLE, IN - Mrs. Mary Evelyn "Mush" Miller, 79, of Zionsville, formerly of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Monday in Zionsville Meadows Nursing Home. Mary was born in Chicago, IL, to John and Mary (Mirus) Drechny on August 9, 1930. She married Andrew T. Miller in Chicago on May 7, 1955. He died on March 7, 2008. She was a retired homemaker and a tireless volunteer at Zionsville Meadows. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Joan and Joe Campbell, and their children, Mary Elizabeth Campbell, Stuart Campbell and Meggie Campbell, all of Carmel, IN, formerly of Zionsville. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 21, at 11 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak St., Zionsville, with Rev. Fr. Dennis J. O'Keeffe, D.Min., pastor, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary's memory may be made to St. Vincent Hospice, 8450 N. Payne

James E. Key
Nov. 15, 1920 - Dec. 22, 2009

EDWARDSBURG, MI - Mr. James Everett Key, 89, of Edwardsburg, formerly of Indianapolis, passed away in his residence Tuesday evening with loved ones by his side. Jim was born in Sumner County, TN to Jesse Franklin and Bessie Ethel (Bennett) Key on November 15, 1920. He worked for International Harvester now Navistar for nearly forty years as a Precision Tool Grinder in Indianapolis before moving to Edwardsburg. On August 22, 1959 he married Pauline L. (Huber) Key to whom he had been married for fifty years. He is survived by his wife and children: James Ronald (Josey) Key and Rebecca L. Calaway both of Indianapolis and were born from his marriage to his first wife Dorothy who predeceased him. Children of Pauline are: Marilyn G. McCloud of Garfield, AR, Linda K. (Scott) Keely of Granger, IN, and Gerry D. (Mary) Bright of Decatur, MI and a brother Odie Key of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; 20 - great - grandchildren and 5 - great - great - grandchildren. A brother Howard also predeceased him. Jim was a member of the United Auto Workers Union, was an avid bowler in many leagues and carried a high average, he enjoyed fishing and camping but most of all he loved his family and was proud to have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with Pauline this past August. A quiet man he had a quick wit and always found a way to interject a little humor into any situation. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec 28th at 11 am at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Rd). Friends may call Sunday from 5 - 7 pm, in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, 801 Hazen St., Suite A, Paw Paw, MI, 49079.

Hazel G. Rudolph
May 26, 1908 - Dec. 19, 2009

SOUTH BEND - Hazel G. Rudolph, 101, of Hilton Head, SC, formerly of South Bend, IN, was called home to the Lord on December 19, 2009. Mrs. Rudolph (our mother) lived in South Bend, IN, for more than 65 years. She was the loving wife of our father, Dr. Carl J. Rudolph. Mom spent her life caring for people as a nurse, a mother and a friend. She taught us the importance of family, belief in God, need to be self - sufficient, value of an education, the power of courage, fun of Christmas and love of Notre Dame football. For those precious gifts we thank her. Her favorite poem was "An Irish Blessing": "May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, The rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand." We love you mom. Mrs. Rudolph is survived by her five children, Mrs. Anna May Stern of Bisbee, AZ, Mr. Carl Rudolph of Mishawaka, IN, Mr. William Rudolph of Ajijic, Mexico, Mrs. Hazel Myer of Chapel Hill, NC, and Mr. Ronald Rudolph of Savannah, GA; and her three grandchildren, Kathleen Gormal of Indianapolis, IN, Ryan Rudolph of Savannah, GA, and Ashley Diamond of New York, NY. In memory of our mother, memorial donations may be made to Prevent Blindness America, 211 West Wacker Drive, Suite 1700, Chicago, IL 60606. This was a cause that meant a great deal to her. McGann Hay University Chapel is in charge.

Evan T. Singer
July 3, 1926 - Dec. 16, 2009

GRANGER - Evan Thomas "Tom" Singer, 83, beloved husband, father, brother and friend of Granger, IN, passed away December 16, 2009, in his home with his loving wife by his side. Tom was born on July 3, 1926, in Lorain, Ohio, to the late Eleanor and John I. Singer. He was raised in the Massillon, Ohio, area and joined the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1943 and served in the South Pacific. He also served another tour of duty during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his service to his country. He was a member of VFW Post #350 and their burial squad. Tom and his wife, Rebecca "Becky" Cooper, were together nearly 30 years as partners in life and nearly 23 years as husband and wife. They were married January 2, 1987, in Mishawaka, IN. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cooper; son, E. Thomas Singer of San Francisco, CA; son, Steven Singer of Moorpark, CA; sister, Pat Yeats of Naples, FL; grandchildren, Ethan Thomas Singer and Lauren Singer; father - in - law, Richard J. Brunner; numerous brothers and sisters - in - law; numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his "Kitty Girl," Sweetie Pie, whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as sisters, Mary Miller and Betty Mullen. Tom leaves us with fond memories of his joy for life and ability to live in the moment. He loved to travel, especially road trips when his wife drove and he could sit back and enjoy the ride. He was a very friendly and outgoing person who loved to talk and get to know everyone. He was a loving person with a great sense of humor who made everyone he touched laugh in some way. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and many friends. There will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the VFW Post #360 burial squad. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal." - Unknown.

James R. Troyer
Aug. 6, 1918 - Dec. 17, 2009

MISHAWAKA - James R. Troyer, 91, passed away on Thursday at home. He was born in Kokomo, to Russel D. and Mary Ellen (McBride) Troyer. Surviving is his wife, Mary Nice Troyer, and his children, Terence M (Mary O'Connell) of Hingham, MA, Sheila (Robert K.) Bright of Mentor, OH, and Timothy N. (Maureen) Troyer of Benicia, CA. The funeral will be at 10 am Monday in the Crypt at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. McGann Hay is assisting.

Sylvia Rose Tomber

SOUTH BEND - Sylvia Rose Tomber (nee Levenson), 93, passed away Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Armand Tomber. Dear mother of Karen Tabak and Davida Griffin. Graveside services at 1:00 PM Friday, December 11, at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Beth El Ner Tamid Synagogue, 2909 W. Mequon Road, Mequon, WI 53092. McGann Hay Funeral Homes, Forest G. Hay Chapel is handling local arrangements.

John B. Mountsier
September 21, 1955 – December 6, 2009

GRANGER – John B. Mountsier passed away on Sunday morning, December 6, 2009, at his home in Granger, IN. Born September 21, 1955, in Montclair, NJ, he was the son of John Stevenson and Dorothy Johnson Mountsier. He is survived by his mother and father, his wife, Elizabeth “Libby” V. Mountsier, son and daughter Ricky and Maggie Mountsier, his sister and brother - in - law, Susan and Nicholas Passero and their daughters, and his lifelong friend Ric Price. John married Libby on September 27, 1980, in Hammond, IN. He completed a B.S. in Metallurgy from Lehigh University, an M.B.A. from Indiana University, and recently a B.A. in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. He worked for and retired from Arcelor - Mittal Steel Company (formerly Inland Steel/IN Tek and I/N Kote) in Burns Harbor, IN, where he served as both the Manager of Quality Control and the President for 36 years. He recently began a career at Michigan City High School teaching math. He was a member of Clay Church and numerous professional and industry organizations. He served on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Northern Indiana Chapter in South Bend. He was an avid runner, golfer, and football fan. Most importantly, he was a loving father, husband, and son. He was passionate and dedicated in everything he did. He was extremely loyal to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. Friends may call at McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Rd.), Wednesday, December 9, from 3 - 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 10, at 1:00 PM at Clay Church, 52866 N. Ironwood Rd, with visitation one hour prior. Rather than sending flowers the family would prefer to have donations made in John’s memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Northern Indiana Chapter, 2004 Ironwood Circle, Suite 140, South Bend, IN, 46635.
