Jacque C. Hudson
September 8, 1926 - March 21, 2010

SOUTH BEND – Jacque C. Hudson passed away at 9:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, of natural causes.

Jacque was born on September 8, 1926, in South Bend, IN., to the late Frank and Genevieve (Dauer) Hudson. He had one brother, Jerry, who preceded him in death, and a sister, Phyllis, who survives.

On November 23, 1946, he married the former Rosemary Personett, at The First Baptist Church in Mishawaka, and they recently celebrated 63 years of marriage. Rosemary survives along with their children, Susan (Tom) Montgomery of South Bend, Sally (Mike) Gray, of Bay City, MI., and Robert (Linda) Hudson, of South Bend: one granddaughter, Pamela (Chris) Smith: and seven grandsons, Michael and Timothy Urbanski, Tom and John Montgomery, and Nicholas, Benjamin, and Lucas Hudson: five great - grandchildren, Olivia, Riley, Alexandra, Victoria, and Tradd.

Jacque was an artist and had a true gift of being able to do anything with wood. Whether it was building, refinishing, or repairing furniture, his services were in demand throughout the area. He worked at many of the local furniture companies, most notably Mishawaka Furniture, Christianson’s, and Ries’s. He worked for piano and organ stores, including Hedman’s, Shirks, and Peltz. He also worked repairing furniture for local moving companies including Hall’s, Woodworth’s, and Allied.

Jacque never really retired from work. His work was also his hobby. He loved his profession, and he only stopped working when he could no longer carry his tool box.

Jacque was an unselfish man who put the needs of his wife and children above all else. He worked seven days a week, to provide the best life he could for his family.

Cremation will take place and a graveside ceremony will take place at ST. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, 375 W Cleveland Rd., Granger, IN, on April 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m.

Contributions in memory of Jacque C. Hudson may be made to the American Lung Association.

George W. Campbell
Dec. 4, 1922 - March 10, 2010

MISHAWAKA - George Washington Campbell, D.D.S., 87, of Mishawaka, IN, devoted husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on March 10, 2010, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. Born in Connellsville, PA, a 1940 graduate of Connellsville High, he played basketball and graduated from Westminster College in 1944. George was an ensign in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific. In 1950 he graduated Pitt Dental School and was the first oral surgeon in Beaver County, practicing 35 - plus years in Rochester, PA. At Pitt, he met the beautiful Lois Ruff of Etna, married 1950 for 56 - plus years, settling in Beaver Falls, PA, raising three daughters, building a successful oral surgery practice, retiring in 1989. George served his beloved Pitt 18 years on the Board of Trustees, retiring as Trustee Emeritus; 19 years on The Medical Center of Beaver County board; 12 years as School Director, becoming the first President of the Blackhawk School Board; and was a Salvation Army board member. He was a delegate for two Republican Presidential Conventions, and loved playing golf with his buddies at the Beaver Valley Country Club, serving a term as president. George and Lois were blessed with many friends who stayed in touch as they moved to Naples, FL, and South Bend, IN. In South Bend, they built another circle of devoted friends. Thanks to all their friends and to the very special caregivers at Tanglewood and Senior Care. Dr. Campbell attended many Pitt games through the years. He attended all games Pitt played at Notre Dame during his last six years. He took great pride that Pitt was undefeated in South Bend while he was living in the shadow of the Golden Dome! HAIL TO PITT! George was preceded in death by his wife, Lois (Ruff) Campbell; his parents, Dr. Clyde Sparks and Catherine (Strawn) Campbell; and brother, Clyde Sparks (Pat) Campbell Jr. He is survived by his sister, Mary Katherine (Kay) Miller of Connellsville; his loving daughters, Jill (Phil) Foster of South Bend, IN, Beth (Travis) McFarlin of Memphis, TN, Lynn (John) Schuholz of Cincinnati, OH; and his grandchildren, George and Kit Foster, Seth and Meredith McFarlin, Rebekah and Patrick Schuholz; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are welcome to join family members at his 10:30 a.m. memorial service on Friday, March 19th, in First Presbyterian Church, Beaver, PA. In lieu of flowers, please forward memorial contributions to the University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, Suite 440 Salk Hall, 3501 Terrace St., Pittsburgh, PA 15261; to Westminster College, Gifts, New Wilmington, PA 16172; or to a charity of choice.

Donna J. Robinson
Nov. 11, 1938 - March 15, 2010

EDWARDSBURG - Donna Jean Robinson, 71, passed away unexpectedly at SJRMC on March 15, 2010, with her family by her side. Born in LaSalle, IL, November 11, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Ronald and Clara Robinson. The family moved to Niles in 1940. Donna graduated from Niles High School in 1956. She then began her RN training at Michael Reese Hospital's School of Nursing, Chicago. Upon graduation, with her passion in the psychiatric field, she began working at Illinois Psychiatric Institute where she worked for over 30 years, ending her time there as Unit Supervisor. She was honored by being a guest speaker in 1959, representing nationwide psychiatric nurses at the National Psychiatric Convention. Donna always believed that helping people was her calling, and she was great at it! She later retired from Memorial Hospital as Unit Nursing Director of Behavioral Health. Donna then decided to do volunteer work. Nothing would hold her back from making a difference in other people's lives. She was a grade school mentor at Ross Beatty School in Cassopolis, and also volunteered weekly for the American Cancer Society and the Cancer Institute at SJRMC up until her passing. Donna is survived by her close companion of 34 years, Kay Conlon of Edwardsburg; two sisters, Karen Robinson and Kathy Deka of South Bend; a niece, Samantha Thalman, Niles, MI; nephew, Jason Deka, Prescott, AZ; great - nephew, Samson Thalman; and a great - niece, Scarlet Thalman. Donna's primary need/concern was to help others before self, so always had a helping hand and wonderful smile for everyone. She was passionate about nature, reading, traveling, and kept five beautiful gardens at her home. She was also a wonderful chef and truly lived her life to the fullest. Donna will be truly missed by everyone who knew and met her. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 'sRelay For Life Team. Cremation will take place. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Helen Birdsell
Sept. 20, 1925 - March 13, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Helen Shapiro Birdsell, 84, of South Bend, died March 13, 2010, in the Providence House. Mrs. Birdsell was born September 20, 1925, in South Bend, IN, to Morris L. and Bee Shapiro. They preceded her in death along with her daughter, Terry Gail Frazin. She attended Studebaker School and graduated in 1943 from Riley High School. Her 1946 marriage to Bernard Robert Frazin ended in divorce. She was married November 11, 1961, to Roger Birdsell, who survives. Other survivors include sons, James Alan Frazin of San Francisco and Lewis Ralph "Larry" Frazin of Los Angeles; sister, Eva Rae Lowey of Denver; grandsons, Justin Ezra (Melody) Frazin of Burr Oak, MI, and Ethan Frazin of Oakland, CA; great - granddaughters, Kelsey Ann and Katlyn Helen Frazin of Burr Oak; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Birdsell was employed as office manager and secretary/treasurer of the Mishawaka Paint & Wallpaper Store owned by her father from 1959 to 1970. Her community activities included the South Bend Chapter of Hadassah, Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, Presbyterian Players, South Bend Civic Theater and South Bend Press Club. She was a past treasurer of the South Bend Symphony League and the Riley Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed gardening, the care of indoor plants and indoor decorating, for which she had been trained in Chicago. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Road. Friends may visit two hours prior. A short reception will then follow the service. The family requests no flowers, instead, please send memorial donations to the Providence House at Madison Center.

Virginia A. Story
Nov. 4, 1919 - March 10, 2010

SOUTH BEND - Virginia A. Story, 90, passed away March 10, 2010. She was born November 4, 1919, to the late Roman and Anna Swikoski. Virginia married Donald Story in 1942. He preceded her in death. She is survived by a brother, Stanley (Dorothy) Swikoski; sister, Lucille (Bill) Shearer; and many nieces and nephews. A committal service will be held in the chapel at Riverview Cemetery, Portage Road, at 2:00 PM on Wednesday.

Edna S. Sarnat
Sept. 25, 1915 – Mar. 13, 2010

GRANGER, IN – Edna (Siegel) Sarnat, 94, died Saturday at Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame. Born: Chicago to the late Saul & Fannie (Cohen) Siegel. Widow of Jacob H. “Jack” Sarnat, DDS. Survivors: son, William S. (Diane) Sarnat, MD; daughter, Susan S. (Robert) Bond; grandchildren: Lauren (Branden Paoli) Sarnat, MD, Adena (Robert) Miller, Jeffery Sarnat, PhD., Michael Bond and David Bond and a brother - in - law, Bernard G. (Rhoda) Sarnat, DDS. Long time member of Beth AM Synagogue now KAM Israel Isaiah Congregation, Volunteer at Michael Reese Hospital over 40yrs, Bookkeeper for 20yrs at Contract Interiors, devoted to her family, wonderful entertainer, lifelong friendships, she had an easy smile. Graveside Service at Rosemont Park Cemetery, 6758 Addison St. at Oak Park Ave, Chicago, 1:30pm CST, 2:30pm EST, TODAY. Memorials to: Dr. Jacob and Edna Sarnat Creative Ed Fund at Temple Beth - El, 305 W. Madison St., South Bend, IN 46601.

Mary Elizabeth (Olson) Parks
October 22, 1931 – March 8, 2010

ELKHART - Mary Elizabeth (Olson) Parks, 78, of Elkhart, formerly of Portland, OR, died March 8, 2010. She was born October 22, 1931 to the late Otto and Marie Olson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Parks. She is survived by three children, David Floyd and Barbara Parks Perron, both of Elkhart, and Mark (Julie) Parks of Portland, OR; and six grandchildren, Christopher Graham, Matthew Anderson, Daniel Floyd, Grace Pulver, Shelby Parks - Morris and Michael Parks. No services are being held at this time. McGann Hay Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

John P. Hans
Nov. 29, 1934 - March 6, 2010

EDWARDSBURG - John P. Hans, 75, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed away in his home on March 6, 2010, with his family by his side. Born November 29, 1934, in South Bend, IN, he was the son of the late Albert J. and Betty K. Hans. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Susan and Judy, who passed away at birth. On June 29, 1957, he married Sherry Ann Ponto, who survives. Also surviving are two children, John William Hans and his wife, Tonya Teter - Hans, and Susan Ann (Hans) Stewart and Jerry Thompson, both of Edwardsburg; six grandchildren, Matthew, PD (Tracy), Tiffany (Darcy), Ciji (Jared), Christina and AJ.; and five great - grandchildren, Austin, Caleb, Tanner, Douglas and Marissa. John and his wife, Sherry, owned and operated Hans House for 49 years, along with John's parents, and then owned and operated Hans Country Café in Edwardsburg for three years before retiring. John served on the board of the Indiana Restaurant Association for many years and was an avid golfer who recently received a hole - in - one plaque from Rayburn Golf Course in Bristol, IN. He was also an accomplished bowler and played in many leagues throughout his life. John was a lifelong member of the Eagle Lake Yacht Club and enjoyed competitive sailing where he sailed five different classes of boats. John won the National Championship in the National One design boat. After retiring, he enjoyed sailing and fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a proud Army veteran; he was part of the 2nd Pit Company B - 128th, 6th Army Division, Fort Leonard Wood, MO, and was discharged in June 1954. He was also a 1953 graduate of Riley High School. Friends may call at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, SR 23, from 3 - 8 PM on Wednesday. Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM on Thursday in Community Baptist Church, US 12 in Edwardsburg, where friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice at Home, to the American Cancer Society , or to the American Heart Association .
