Rosalind Dew
April 21, 1912 - July 5, 2010
GRANGER - Rosalind Dew, faithful wife of husband Arthur, and loving mother of four children, Grace, Daniel, Phoebe and Paul. She passed away on July 5th, 2010, from a chronic lung condition and went to spend eternity with her Lord and God, peacefully and fully satisfied with life. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, three children, six grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren. She was born in Hong Kong in 1912, and was married in 1936 to Arthur Dew. She and Arthur im - migrated to Elkhart, in 1973 and later lived in Sugarland, TX, Nashville, TN, Malvern, PA, and finally returned to Granger. Rosalind was a devout Christian whose main interests were reading Christian books and spending much time praying for her family and friends. She took great interest in their lives and was even more concerned about their well - being, frequently more than she ought to be. She cared deeply for the salvation of others, and seized every opportunity to share her faith with them. She witnessed without reservation, and especially to new friends of hers. A member of the Michiana Chinese Christian Church while living in Indiana, Rosalind was an active contributor to its mission and vision. She was known to everyone as "Grandma," being the old - est of them all. Rosalind was a frugal person, but very generous to others. She will be greatly missed. Her memorial service is scheduled for July 10th, 2010, in Michiana Chinese Christian Church, located at 11805 Loughlin Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545, 574 - 256 - 9422. The service will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church prior to the service. WALKERTON – Vivian L. Plummer, 78, died Sunday in her residence. Born: December 1, 1931 to James Alfies and Henerietta J. Roseboom. She was the owner of Morris Sales. Three sons survive: Charles J. (Beverly) of Elkhart, Ronald A. of Avon Park, FL and Larry L. (Candi) of Walkerton also her companion Gary Moss. Predeceased by a son Thomas and a daughter Etta Millice. Cremation, then burial in South Bend City Cemetery. No services. Memorials: Hospice of St. Joseph County. McGann Hay, Morning Star Funerals & Cremations in charge.
Edith I. Apple
June 4, 1923 – June 28, 2010
SOUTH BEND – Mrs. Edith Irene (Bashore) Apple, 87, of South Bend passed away peacefully at 8:30pm Monday evening at Memorial Hospital.
She was born in South Bend to the late Jessie & Irene (Pinckert) Bashore. She was a cab driver for Yellow Cab until she retired at age 65. She married Charles Apple in South Bend and he passed away in 1977.
Surviving are her children: Larry (Vicki) Gimson of Granger, Chuck (Sharon) Apple of South Bend, Leroy Apple of South Bend, Pat (Linda) Apple of Niles, MI, Cindy Gibson of South Bend and Tammy (Bill) Hoffer of South Bend. Also surviving are her siblings: Ralph (Peggy) Bashore of Roseland, Howard (Barb) Bashore of Knox, IN, Ruth (Ed) Arenault of South Bend and Loraine (John) Taylor of South Bend; 20 grandchildren and 46 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Friday at the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood at Jefferson, with Pastor Paul Wallace of Body of Christ Ministries, officiating. Friends may call from 9 - 10:30am prior to services in the funeral home. Following cremation burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery where she will be laid to rest in eternity with her husband, daughter Sally Buysse and two grandchildren.
Shannon C. Magezi
May 6, 1976 - June 28, 2010
GRANGER - Ms. Shannon C. (Turner) Magezi, 34, passed away Monday following a tree removal work accident in Granger. Shannon was born May 6, 1976 in South Bend to Dawn Darlene (Place) Howard and Donald Edmond Turner. She graduated from Penn High Scholl in 1994. She had been a CDL Class B Commercial driver, formerly employed by the Penn Harris Madison School Corporation and Federal Express. She is survived by her mother and step - fathe, Dawn and Calvin H. Howard of Granger and fathe, Donald Turner of Pennington Gap, Virginia; two sons, William Harrison Magezi, age 13 and Cameron Michael Magezi, age 10, both of Granger; a brother, Shawn Turner of Granger; her maternal grandparents, Myron R. and Aleta Place of Mishawaka; her ex - husband, Herbert Megezi of Boston, MA; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Shannon had volunteered as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was "Aunt Shannon" to all the kids who knew her and was like a "Pied Piper" with them. People had a lot of trust in Shannon, especially with their children. Shannon was an avid angler, enjoying it with her children. She would light up a room with her presence. Shannon loved to laugh and was a "free spirit". Friends may call Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. in McGann Hay Funerals | Cremations | Gatherings, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off of Cherry Rd.). A celebration of Shannon's life will follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Paul Wallace, of Body of Christ Ministries, officiating. Instead of the originally planned cremation, the family has planned a "green burial" to follow at Porter Rae Cemetery in Potato Creek State Park. This is believed to be the first "green burial" in the Michiana area. Rather than sending flowers, the family has set up a trust fund at 1st Source Bank for the benefit of her boys. There will be envelops at the funeral home.

SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Eliza Ann (Slemp) Williams, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon at 4:43 p.m. in Fountainview Place, Mishawaka. Ann was born on April 7, 1932. in Jonesville, VA. to the late Echo and Ora Mae (Crumley) Slemp. She was the head cook at Bonnie Doon's on Lincoln Way West for 22 years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Lloyd E. Lanning in 1982. On September 29, 1984, she married Edward Eugene Willams, who survives of South Bend. Other survivors besides her husband Ed include a son, Donald G. (Dorothy) Slemp of Osceola; grandchildren, Ray Slemp, Lester Horrall and Tammie Horrall; and three great - grandchildren, Heaven Slemp, Skyela Slemp, Jordan Slemp and Gina Horrall. Graveside services are planned for 2:00 p.m. today at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on West Edison Road, with Pastor Paul Wallace of Body of Christ Ministries officiating. Ralph E. Brennan
March 18, 1924 - June 24, 2010
MISHAWAKA - Dr. Ralph E. Brennan, 86, died at the Center for Hospice in Elkhart at 8:45 p.m. Thursday evening surrounded by many loved ones. He was the only child of Edward T. and Ruth F. (Huffine) Brennan at the Washington Park Hospital, Chicago, IL. Ralph graduated from Hyde Park High School in June 1942. He served three years in the Army during WW II. His unit was the 503 Parachute Regiment Combat Team. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for valor in combat. He was honorably discharged in February 1946. Ralph spent the next seven years at Indiana University earning a BS in 1950 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Dentistry in 1953. He came to Mishawaka after graduation and practiced dentistry until January 2000. On May 1, 1954, he married Mary Ellen Flack. He practiced with her father, Dr. W. Steele Flack, from 1954 to 1978. Dr. Brennan is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen and their six children, Kevin P. (LeAnna), Michael E. (Janice), Mary Pat (Richard) Torbeck, Dr. Matthew S. (Tracy) John R. (Jody) and Edward T. (Jennifer). They have 13 grandchildren: Robert, Christopher, Virginia, Katherine, Clark, Margaret and Brian Torbeck, Grace, Collin, Ellen, Patrick, Ralph and Jack. Ralph was a life member of the American Dental Association and the North Central Dental Association. He volunteered his service for many years at the Children's Dispensary, he was a former member of the South Bend Elks Lodge #235 and of the Morris Park Country Club as well as the Mishawaka Kiwanis Club. He was an active member of the Mishawaka Knights of Columbus and VFW Post #360 in Mishawaka. Dr. Brennan enjoyed his grandchildren and wandering around on the golf courses. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Fir and SR 23 in Granger, where friends may call from 9:30 - 10:15 a.m. prior to Mass. Entombment will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will also be on Monday from 5 - 7 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Road). Thomas Felton Deese, Jr.
February 28, 1948 – June 24, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Thomas “Tommy” Felton Deese, Jr., 62, passed away June 24, 2010. He was the son of the late Doris Jeanette and Thomas Felton Deese, Sr. Survivors include his wife, Jacquelyn S. Carney; sisters, Connie of Texas, Rose, Sharon, Dixie, and Theresa; brother, Emery; and sister in law, Glenda, all of Florida; step - children, Kimberly (James) Keultjes of South Bend and Charles (Jill) Barna of Mishawaka. Tommy worked for the St. Joe Correctional Facility, Ducomb Center, for 10 years. No services are being held.
Chung - Ill Park
Jan. 1, 1942 - June 17, 2010
MISHAWAKA - Chung - Ill Park of Mishawaka, Indiana, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, teacher of life, and entrepreneur, was tragically taken from us on June 17, 2010, at the young age of 68. He was born on January 1, 1942, and was the youngest out of six children. After graduating from the prestigious Seoul National University he came to the U.S. with only $200 to achieve the "American Dream." After many years of hard work, his dream became reality in 1984 when he opened up his first restaurant in Indianapolis, IN. He later opened up a restaurant in West Lafayette, IN, which eventually led him up to Mishawaka, IN, in 1988. This is where he opened up Hana Yori of Japan, which has been Michiana's favorite since. (The restaurant will be closed on Tuesday in deference to the funeral.) His continuing thirst for knowledge earned him an MBA, PhD and CPA. He is survived by his longtime wife of 37 years, Pil - Soo of Mishawaka; his two sons, Fred of Ingalls, IN, and Steve (wife Kasie) of Phoenix, AZ; his grand - son, Brayden - Chung of Noblesville, IN; and his older brother, Chung - Sik Park (wife Yeon - Ri) of Long Island, NY. His intoxicating laugh and off - the - wall humor will be truly missed by all who knew him. The viewing will be held today, June 21, 2010, from 3 - 5 PM and 6 - 8 PM in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, located at 13260 SR 23 at Cherry Road, Granger, IN. The funeral ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at 6 PM in the Michiana Korean Church, 29400 CR 10, Elkhart, IN.
Ralph D. Jordan
January 26, 1936 – December 30, 2010
GRANGER – Ralph DeWain Jordan, 74, passed away early Thursday in his residence.
Ralph was born in Ashland, OH to the late Ernest and Ester (Adang) Jordan. Ralph retired in 2001 as a Union Electrician and Past President of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local #153. On August 20, 1966 in South Bend he married Rosemary Louise (Gallagher) Jordan who survives him in Granger.
Along with his wife Rosemary, Ralph is survived by a daughter Jody (David) Rhodes of South Bend; three sons: Jeff (Vicki) Jordan of Houston, TX, Paul (Jenny) Jordan of Fishers, IN and Andy (Laura) Jordan of Granger; three sisters: Virginia Kemp of Reynoldsburg, OH, Joyce (Bob) Morrison of Montrose, CO and Loretta Boncea of Bayard, NM and a brother Bob Jordan of Seagoville, TX; eleven grandchildren, two great - grandchildren and his K9 companion Jake. He was predeceased by three brothers: Ernie (Joann) Jordan of South Bend, Walt Jordan and Ed (Jo Ann) Jordan of Osceola.
Ralph was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church where he coached sports teams, the Granger Knights of Columbus Fr. Baden Council #4263, he was one of the founders of Harris Baseball/Softball, coached at Northside Little League and was an avid fisherman and loved camping in the outdoors. Ralph was an Artist and enjoyed painting and woodworking. He lived life to the fullest often saying he got 25 hours out of everyday. He especially loved his grandchildren.
Friends may call Monday from 3 - 5 & 6 - 8pm in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Rd.) where there will be a parish Vigil Service at 4:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am and calling from 9 - 9:45am at St. Pius X Catholic Church (Fir & SR23). Cremation will follow at American Cremation Society.
