Anthony P. Pica, Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Anthony "Tony" Patrick Pica, Sr., 81, passed away on Wednesday, December 29th, 2010 at 7:28 p.m. at his home with family by his side. Tony was born on February 10th, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Peter Anthony Pica, Sr. and Natalie Ethel (Wilk) Pica, who preceded him in death. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in 1946. He then served his country in World War II for three years in the US Army. Tony graduated in 1953 from Purdue University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Pharmacy. On August 18th, 1956 at Holy Family Church in South Bend he married Jane Ann Tobey, who survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Elizabeth (the late J. Michael) Jones, Kathleen (William) Box, Anne (Roger) Brummet, and Jane (Michael) Johnson; four sons, Anthony (Lynn) Pica Jr., Patrick (Carol) Pica, Michael Pica and Peter (Kristen) Pica; his 23 grandchildren, Patrick, Kevin, and Maureen Jones; Andrea, Natalie, and Brendan Box, Amy (Nick McClure), Nick, and Mark Pica, Nicol (Greg Liggins) and Chad Baker; Rachel, Rebecca, and Ross Brummet, Katherine, Mary, Michael, and Andrew Johnson, Collin, Evan, Emmie, and Clay Pica and one great - grandchild, Sarah McClure. Other survivors include one brother, Peter (Bonnie) Pica Jr.; and two sisters, Jacqueline (Walter) Schimmel and Carolyn (Brent) Banulis. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Baker. Tony owned and operated McKinley Pharmacy for 40 years and retired March 31, 1995 when he sold the business. Tony will be greatly missed by his friends and family for his generous spirit, sense of humor, guidance, and love of his grandchildren. Friends may call from 2 - 4 p.m. on Monday, January 3rd at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road at Ironwood. A PRIVATE Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday. Margarita C. Humphrey
Sept. 17, 1917 - Dec. 16, 2010
SOUTH BEND - On December 16, 2010, God wrapped his arms around Margarita C. (Couch) Humphrey to be with him and the love of her life, James Humphrey. Also, preceding her in death were her brothers Victor, James, Joseph, Leo, Fred and Howard Couch. Left behind to cherish her memory is her beloved sister, Cecilia Bauters (Joe); her nine children, Kathleen Hinnegan, Jim Humphrey (Peg), Jeanne Marie Wear, Robert Humphrey (Dianne), Thomas Paul Humphrey, Therese Humphrey, Joseph Humphrey, Mary Cecilia Pinkowski (Scott), Michele McLaughlin (Pat); her grandchildren, Jennifer Hinnegan, Francis Hinnegan III, Trisha Humphrey, Kim Humphrey, Orin Wear(Jen), Heather Budzinski (Mike), Melissa Riem (Matt), Matthew Humphrey, Thomas Humphrey, Maria Beck(Bob), Tony Schirripa (Allyson), Cecilia Gobdel ("Ivan"), Justin Berryman(Tara), Rachel Berryman, Christian Pinkowski, Joshua Pinkowski, Patrick McLaughlin, Alicia Roennow (Emil); and her twenty great - grandchildren. Margarita was a lifelong resident of South Bend, a 'country girl' and a city girl. At Washington Clay High School, Margarita was the captain and star point guard of the first all girls basketball team for four years. She continued playing basketball for the CYO, where she met Jim, who ref'd her games. After a two year courtship, they were married on December 30, 1942, when Jim surprised her with a three day furlough he was able to procure from the Army. Margarita was a stay - at - home - Mom until her youngest child, Michele, was in school. At which time she became a crossing guard, her main area was Perley School. She retired from that job to be a stay - at - home - Grandma. Margarita and Jim made the rounds to all of the grandchildren's book fairs, concerts and sporting events not to mention all of the birthday parties and times at Lake Cora (Fleabag). Margarita left a legacy of love, laughter and life. Smile God Loves You! Good Bye, God Bless, Have a Good Day! A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrate Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony dePaua Catholic Church with Rev. Mark A. Gurtner, JCL, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grave Cemetery, Notre Dame. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3 - 7 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 4:30 pm in the McGann Hay Funeral Homes, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd. at Ironwood. Francis E. “Al” Wells, Jr.
March 22, 1938 – December 16, 2010
MISHAWAKA – Francis Ellsworth “Al” Wells, Jr., passed away at 3:15am at his home, knowing he was given the most loving care possible by his wife Roberta.
Al was born in St. Joseph, MI to the late Francis Ellsworth, Sr. and Wilma Lavera (Blake) Wells. On August 25, 1979 in Mishawaka he married Roberta Josephine (Lenson) Wells who survives of Mishawaka. For 35 years Al worked at Jessen Manufacturing as a Tool & Die Supervisor. At one time he was the owner of The Fireside in Edwardsburg and for a short time he owned Porky’s in Mishawaka.
Other survivors along with Roberta are: a daughter Shawn (Dean) Schimpa of Edwardsburg; a son Kenneth C. (Michele) Wells of Niles; two step - daughters: Diana Brinkley of South Bend and Leana Sanders of Elkhart; 17 grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren. His sister Sharon Radabaugh passed away on February 24, 2003.
Always a hard worker, in his free time, Al liked camping at Shady Point Camp Ground on Bear Lake in Jones, MI. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, and bowling. From 1957 to 1963 Al served his country honorably in the US Air Force during the early time of the Viet Nam War era.
Roberta and Al’s family would like to say a special thank you to all their friends, family, employees of Heraeus and Harbor Light Hospice for their love and support through out this most difficult time.
Al requested cremation and no services. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.

Timothy F. McGinnity

MESA, AZ - Beloved son and brother, Timothy Francis McGinnity Born December 12, 1952, in Gary, IN, to Francis David McGinnity and Mary Catherine (McQuillin) McGinnity. Died December 11, 2010, the day before his 58th birthday, at his home in Mesa, Arizona. Tim is preceded in death by his father, Francis, in 1975; by his infant brother in 1961, and his infant sister in 1953. He is survived by his mother, Mary Catherine McGinnity of South Bend, IN; his three brothers, Michael (Linda Bozenski) McGinnity of South Bend, IN, Patrick (Tina Ivankovics) McGinnity of Queen Creek, AZ, and Joseph (Cathy Coates) McGinnity of Maricopa, AZ; his five sisters, Margaret Thomas of South Bend, IN, Kathleen Erin of Peoria, IL, Jane McGinnity of Chicago, IL, Susan McGinnity of Mesa, AZ, and Mary E. McGinnity of South Bend, IN. In 1967, the McGinnitys moved from Hobart, IN, to South Bend, IN, where Tim began his freshman year at St. Joseph's High School. Tim greatly enjoyed his role as school photographer for several years on the yearbook staff. He graduated St. Joseph's in 1971. Tim worked for Midwest Distributing until he moved to Arizona in 1976. Tim was a machine operator and foreman employed by Coca - Cola Bottlers of Phoenix for thirteen years; and more recently by Microchip Technologies of Tempe, AZ, and Micro - Semi Corporation of Scottsdale, AZ, where he operated and supervised water fabrication technology, used to process silicon wafers. He was experienced in the operation of many kinds of manufacturing equipment as well as the handling of hazardous chemicals. Tim worked hard to provide for his family of three daughters: Jessica, Jennifer and Juliana. Tim loved music; cars; antiques; and baking chocolate - chip cookies in huge batches. He also loved Christmas lights. He was a talented musician, who played the keyboards for various non - profit organizations and churches. As a child, Tim would play the pipe organ in St. Bridget's Church, Hobart, Indiana, on Saturdays, and thus taught himself to play by ear. His favorite composers were Bach and Handel. Timothy, beloved son and brother, your pain is gone now. Rest in peace, dear one! Visitation will be 6 - 8 PM today in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road. Willard Toll, Jr.
December 9, 1917 - December 15, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Willard Toll, 93, died peacefully at home on December 15, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. Raised in Stevensville, Michigan, Willard moved to South Bend and on June 15, 1941, married Florence Thursday of Lakeside, Michigan. Florence preceded him in death after 49 years of marriage. Their union produced two sons, Larry (Ellen), and Mark (Carol) Toll. Also surviving are a grandson, Jeffrey Toll, and two granddaughters, Jennifer Toll and Laura Toll Marchiano (Anthony).
Following the death of Florence, Willard married Evelyn B. Jones of South Bend, who survives with a son, Gary Jones (Lynnette), and two daughters, Christine Wrobel and Judy Houston (Richard), a granddaughter Amanda Vetor (Andrew) and a great - granddaughter, Samantha Vetor.
Willard is also survived by a sister, Louise Sootsman.
After 42 years in management at Fruehauf Corporation’s local branch, Willard retired in 1983. He was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Lodge #427 F.A.M., as well as York Rite and Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason. Willard was a member of Orak Shrine in Michigan City, the South Bend Shrine Club, and Tuxedo Patrol, where he participated in the transportation of children to the Chicago Shrine Hospital and Shrine Burn Center in Cincinnati.
A funeral service celebrating Willard’s life will be held at the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood Dr. at 1:00PM on Friday, with Rev. Tom Thews officiating. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.

Frederick M. Frank
June 8, 1943 - Dec. 11, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Frederick "Fred" Frank, 67, passed away Saturday at 11:00 p.m. in Regency Place. In South Bend, on April 14, 1991, he married Maxine "Max" (Silver) Frank, who survives along with several cousins including locally, Marilyn Brown, Mel Brook, Babs (Mel) Waks, and a brother - in - law, Robert J. Silver, and two nephews, Ben Silver and Joshua Silver. Fred was a Merchandise Close Out Broker and was one of the original 25 people to set up at the Shipshewana Flea Market. He was the owner of Frank Sales in Roseland. Fred was a member of Sinai Synagogue and the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley. He graduated from John Adams High School in the Class of 1961 and attended Purdue University. Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. in the McGann Hay, Forest G. Hay Chapel, 435 S. Ironwood at Jefferson, Rabbi Michael Friedland officiating. Burial will follow at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Mishawaka. Barry N. Johnson
June 8, 1959 – December 9, 2010
MISHAWAKA – Mr. Barry Neal Johnson, 51, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, in Oxford, AL, while there on business.
Mr. Johnson was born in Seattle, WA on June 8, 1959, to the late Robert Arthur and Catherine “Dee” (Logsdon) Johnson. On January 26, 1985 he married Hasmig Vart (Babayan) Johnson who survives of Mishawaka.
In addition to his wife, Barry leaves behind two daughters: Virginia Johnson and Ani Johnson and a son Haig Johnson all at home; two brothers: Leonard (Helen) Johnson of California and Douglas (Patty) Johnson of Florida; two sisters: Bobbi (Brian) Patchin of the state of Washington and Danette (Ron) Isaacs of California.
Mr. Johnson had a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering and a Masters Degree in Information Technology. He had worked for some years in the Aerospace Industry at Honeywell but most recently was employed by the Flint Group where he was a Continuous Improvement Manager in the Packaging and Narrow Web division.
A gathering time for friends and family of Mr. Johnson’s will be held on Friday, December 17th from 5 - 7pm at the Presidents Room at McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 (enter off Cherry Rd).
