James M. Pola
August 4, 1956 – November 3, 2010
GRANGER – James Michael Pola, 56, passed away Wednesday after a ten year long illness.
James was born in South Bend to Louis Vincent and Evelyn (Nagy) Pola who survive of Granger. Other survivors include his brother Louis J. Pola of South Bend; an uncle Robert (Janice Nagy) of South Bend; and cousins: Theresa (David) Bodnar of Plymouth, Gina (Jeff) Mynsberge of Mishawaka, Dante (Debbie) Pola of Edwardsburg, Tom Pola of Elkhart, Joe (Lorna) Pola of Mishawaka, Myra (Lee) Holsgon of New Carlise and Kim (Jim) Brumbaugh of Granger.
James graduated from Mishawaka High School in the Class of 1974. He played in the Mishawaka Slow Pitch Softball League and was an active golfer. Jim was a big fan of Notre Dame and Chicago Bears football. He loved to play cards and sit out in the backyard and cook out with his friends including his little dog Bruno named after his favorite pizza place. Jim loved animals. He liked to travel, especially to Las Vegas and fishing in Minnesota with his buddies.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life will be today at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Msgr. William Schooler, Pastor, officiating, at 11am with calling before from 10 - 10:45am. Visitation was 4 - 7pm yesterday at McGann Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23 at Cherry Rd. where there was a parish vigil service at 5pm.

Edward C. Willems
July 20, 1922 – October 24, 2010
South Bend - Edward C. Willems, 88, of South Bend, passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010, in his home.
He was born on July 20, 1922 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, to the late Anthony and Marie Willems. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
Mr. Willems was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in 1944.
He served as a pilot on a B - 17 airplane in the 486th Bomb Group during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his service and honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, Edward Willems graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a business degree. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum, Sequoia Supply Company, and Wickes Lumber during a professional career in building supplies that spanned four decades.
On June 2, 1951, Edward Willems married the former Jean Kotz in Kenosha.
They moved to South Bend in 1956 and made it their lifelong residence.
Surviving family members include: his wife, Jean; daughters, Jean Marie Willems, Mary (Richard) Armstrong, Jane (David) Jones, and Anne (Daniel) Malone; sons, David (Petra)Willems, Mark Willems, Paul Willems, and John (Lauri) Willems; and grandchildren, Kate and Kyle Malone, Kara, Kristina, Aaron, and Cason Jones, and Danielle and Taylor Gadus.
Edward Willems’ favorite pastime was supporting his Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers, and the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 on Friday, October 29th, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 North Ironwood Road.
The funeral will follow at 11:00.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Flower Food Pantry.
Melisa Marie Van Vooren
December 9, 1978 – October 22, 2010
Edwardsburg - Melisa M. Van Vooren, “Aunt Mimi,” 31, passed away October 22, 2010 after a short illness.
Born December 9, 1978, she was the daughter of Raymond and Donna Van Vooren. They survive in Edwardsburg. Melisa is also survived by four siblings, Dale Van Vooren of Edwardsburg, Sheri (Todd) Buysse of Edwardsburg, David (Karen) Van Vooren of Edwardsburg, and Doug (Mary) Van Vooren of Osceola; fiancé, Troy Lake of South Bend; and nine nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Gabrielle, Nathan, Olivia, Alexis, Hunter, Liliana, Peyton, and Gage.
Melisa was extremely loyal to her family. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and aunt! She loved music, laughter, dancing, and going on cruises. She lived her life to the fullest and brought joy to everyone around her. She will be greatly missed by many.
Memorial Services will be held on Friday, October 29 at 1:00 PM at the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter of Cherry Rd. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Paul D. Gill
September 27, 1922 – October 20, 2010
SOUTH BEND – Paul Douglas Gill, 88, passed away Wednesday, at Woodland Manor, Elkhart, following an illness.
Paul was born on September 27, 1922 in Lexington, NE to the late Donald Gill and Hazel (Haggedone) Gill Daniels. Mr. Gill served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Aircorps, 504th Bombardment Group during World War II. On August 11, 1947 he married Elizabeth Laurue “Betty” McAdams in Norton, KS, she passed away on May 10, 2003. Paul retired in 1984 after a long career as a Meat Cutter at Kroger’s.
Mr. Gill is survived by his two sons: Douglas J. (Barbara) Gill and Darrell P. (Sharon) Gill all of Osceola; a sister: Phyllis Swartz of Loveland, CO; 9 - grandchildren: Doug (Crystal) Gill, Tonya (Chris) Runyn, Darrell (Andrea) Gill, Jason (Amanda) Gill, Justin (Michelle) Gill, Warren Gill, Kim (Bruce) DeWulf, Sherri Gill, Tony Gill; and his loving companion “Buster” as well as longtime friend and neighbor Dorothy Toth and 21 great - grandchildren.
A celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Monday at 2pm at McGann Hay, Morning Star Funerals & Cremation Chapel, 21275 W. Cleveland Rd., near Portage, Rev. El Akuchie, a family friend from Ohio, officiating. Calling will be from 1 - 2pm prior to the funeral service. Military Honors service will follow the committal service at Highland Cemetery.

Virginia M. Walsh
July 31, 1915 - Oct. 20, 2010
MISHAWAKA - Virginia M. Walsh, 95, of Mishawaka passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Healthwin Extended Care. She was born on July 31, 1915 in Spencer, IN to Ivah May (Wark) Chambers and Courtland M. Chambers who preceded her in death. On October 3, 1943 in Indianapolis, IN she married Paul A. Walsh who preceded her in death in September, 1997. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Sharon Veith, of South Bend and son, Dennis (Robin) E. Walsh, of Laguna Beach, CA. Also surviving are three grandchildren: James C. (Theresa) Veith of Granger, Trevor J. Walsh of New York, NY, and Erin E. Walsh of San Francisco, CA and three great - grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Ashley Jones, and Trenton Veith. Virginia grew up in Bloomfield, IN and attended Indiana State University. After many stops along the way in Dallas, TX, Cleveland and Cincinnati, OH, South Bend, IN, Buchanan, MI, London, Ontario, Canada, and Vero Beach, FL, she and Paul returned to Indiana in 1995 to ultimately reside in Mishawaka. She was an avid golfer and bingo player during her retirement years, as well as a member of Tri Kappa Sorority, and formerly a member of Orchard Hills Country Club. Virginia was a wonderful woman who greatly loved her family, her many nieces and nephews, and especially her grandchildren and great - grandchildren. Her beautiful smile and fun loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Her family would like to thank her many friends at Tanglewood Trace Retirement Community and the many caring medical personnel who cared for her so compassionately. Friends may call from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 25th and from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 26th at McGann Hay Funeral Home, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend where funeral services celebrating her life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. September 25, 1948 - October 18, 2010
SOUTH BEND - Christopher Alan Mikulak, 62, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes in his residence. He was born in South Bend to the late Mary Alice (Frank) and Julius Mikulak who survives of South Bend. He earned a BS in Economics at IUSB and worked at Bendix. Judith Ann Siatkowski
May 30, 1944 - Oct. 18, 2010
GRANGER - Judith Ann "Judy" Siatkowski, 66, passed away October 18, 2010, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Born May 30, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Jack Clarke and Gladys (Nowak) Clarke of Granger. On August 13, 1966, Judy married Willis "Bill" Siatkowski, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Amy (Mark) Schmitt of Charles Town, WVa, and Mark of Wichita, KS; sisters, Patricia Starr of South Bend and Nancy Reith of Granger; and three grandchildren, Stephen Siatkowski, Joseph and William Schmitt. Judy enjoyed traveling all over the world. She was also a dedicated teacher for the parochial school system and Penn - Harris - Madison. But what she valued the most was her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, enter off Cherry Road. Louis Wolfrom
Oct. 3, 1925 - Oct. 16, 2010
GRANGER - Louis Wolfrom, 85, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, October 16, 2010, with his family by his side. Born October 3, 1925, to the late Louis and Laura (Ingberg) Wolfrom. He grew up in Rhinelander, WI, before moving to the South Bend area in 1950, when he married Phyllis Kleven. She preceded him in death in 1981, as did his brother, Allan Wolfrom, and sister, Aileen Wolfrom. Louis is survived by his children, LouAn (Gerald) Beaudoin of Watervliet, Jon Wolfrom of Granger and Kristan (Jay) Wittig of Grand Rapids; grandchildren, William Wolfrom, Tiffanie (Maurice) Smith, Melissa Beaudoin, and Kyra, Kylee and Kendall Wittig; as well as a brother, Jim (Dorice) Wolfrom of Des Moines, Washington; and sister, Joan Wolfrom of Glendale, Arizona. Mr. Wolfrom was a WW II veteran and a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:00 PM in the McGann Hay, Granger Chapel, 13260 SR23, enter off Cherry Road. Visitation will be one hour prior.
