Geroge Evans Plumb
Date of death: November 14, 2007

George Evans Plumb, 74, of Mishawaka passed away in his home of the afternoon of Wednesday, November 14, 2007.

George was born on November 14, 1933 in Altoona, Pennsylvania as the son of Charles and Rose (Evans) Plumb. He was preceded in death by is parents; a daughter, Patricia Steggmann, son George “Guy” Plumb and a stepdaughter, Veneita Giles.

On October 18, 1989 in Cleveland, OH he married the former Betty Brown who preceded him on November 27, 2006. Surviving are his daughter Victoria Otis of Quincy, MI, stepdaughters, Cindy (Larry) Barnett of Cassopolis, MI and Sandra Brown o Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Trad, Thax and Shebre Moore and Kristy Fawn Steggmann; three step grandchildren Robert Evan Binder, Danielle Salaiz and Andrew Lee Brown; one great grandchild Daxon Moore and five step great grandchildren Jonathan Salaiz, Gavin Heiden, Cionna Heiden, Amiah Lee Brown and Olivia Heiden; two sisters, Bea Colling and Pat Grabowski both of Westland, MI. Also surviving are his good friends Dominie and Janie Ratino of Cleveland, Ohio.

George was a Truck Driver for Advanced Trucking in South Bend before he retired. He has been a Michiana Resident for the past 32 years. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. A member of V.F.W. Post 360, a Teamster with Local #362 and American Legion Post 161 and the Mishawaka Moose Lodge. George was also a member of the VFW Post 360 / American Legion Post 161 Burial Team, which would perform Military Burial Rites for their fallen brothers.

Family and friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday, November 19th, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Erv Mize officiating.

Brian Scott Baer
Date of death: November 18, 2007

Brian Scott Baer, 34, of Mishawaka passed away on Sunday, November 18 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

Brian was born on April 21, 1973 in South Bend, as the son of Ricky and Margaret “Peggy” (Betty) Baer. On August 21, 1999 in South Bend he married Kelly Dean. Surviving are his loving wife Kelly, his parents Ricky and Peggy Baer of Mishawaka, two daughters, Brittany and Alexis Baer of North Liberty; two step sons, Charles and Matthew Dean both of North Liberty; a grandson James Dean and a sister Rebecca Baer of Indianapolis. Also surviving are his paternal grandmother, Kay Baer of South Bend and his maternal grandmother, Valeria Betty of South Bend.

He was a graduate of Mishawaka High School. Brian had many interests, he played darts, was a golfer and he enjoyed playing the guitar. He had been a licensed Auctioneer and Real Estate Sales person in the state of Indiana. Most of all Brian loved the time he spent with his kids, his family and friends.

Visitation will be held Today, Tuesday, November 20 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21 in the funeral home. Rev Larry Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Shirley Irene Lane
October 31, 1942 – November 20, 2007

Shirley I. Lane, 65, of South Bend formerly of Osceola passed away on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 in Goshen General Hospital.

Shirley was born on October 31, 1942 as the daughter of Dewey and Thelma Belle (Murphy) Ellsworth. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Robert, Dewey, Carl, Bill, Richard, Ronald and Lyle “Mickie” Ellsworth and by two sisters, Alice Scott and Barbara Schraw. On July 2, of 1960 in Mishawaka as Shirley Ellsworth She Married Edward Francis Lane he preceded her in death on January 21, 2003.

Shirley is survived by her children, Brenda Batchelor of Mishawaka, Rose (Ron) Austin of Lakeville, Faron (Rebecca) Lane of Osceola and Loretta (John) Kronewitter of Lakeville, IN; a sister Betty Glaum of Mason, AZ and three brothers, George (Mary) Ellsworth of Mishawaka, Jerry (Sandy) Ellsworth of Mishawaka and Jimmy (Margie) Ellsworth of Elkhart, IN.

Shirley was the owner and operator of the Wooden Shoe Tavern in Mishawaka for 25 years. Shirley was a very loving and caring person she was always willing to help friends ether through giving them of a meal to eat or in many other ways. She was devoted to taking care of family, Many times even opening her home for family and friends, for many years she cared for her brother “Mickey’ until his death. Her grandkids were the apple of her eye. A wonderful mother, and sister, she always had a ready smile and a kind word. Shirley loved NASCAR Racing, a big Notre Dame football fan she will be missed dearly and remembered fondly by all who knew and loved her.

A Memorial service for family and friends will be held on Monday November 26th at 8:00 PM in Hahn Funeral Home 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka with Rev. Erv Mize Officating. Friends may call two hours prior to the service on Monday. Memorial contributions can be made in Shirley’s name to American Cancer Society 601 West Edison Road Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Tamara "Tammy" Hardin
Date of death: November 27, 2007

Tamara “Tammy” K. Hardin, 45, of Bremen, IN, formerly of Mishawaka, is now at peace. She passed away on Tuesday, November 27 at Our Lady of Peace in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend after battling cancer.

Tammy was born on December 11, 1961 in South Bend as the daughter of Eddie and Sheila (Yates) Ford. She was preceded in death by her father Eddie Ford.

On October 3, 1980 in Mishawaka as the former Tammy Ford she married William H. Hardin Jr. Surviving Tammy are her mother Sheila Ford of Mishawaka, her husband William; son William H. Hardin III of Bremen; two sisters, Brenda (Tim) Kujawski of Edwardsburg, MI and Lisa Rouch of Osceola, IN; two brothers Eddie (Trudy) Ford Jr. of South Bend and Veachel Ford of Mishawaka.

Tammy has worked for Liberty Mutual in the Claims Division since 1994. She was a loving mother, sister, daughter and friend.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1st in the First Apostolic Church, 802 E. Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, IN, with Rev. Gene Ebright officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the services in the church. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka has been entrusted with handling the arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made in Tammy’s name to the American Cancer Society, 601 W. Edison, Mishawaka, IN 46545.

Patrick Allen Meersman
Date of death: November 28, 2007

Patrick Allen Meersman, 55, of Three Rivers, MI formerly of South Bend, passed away in his home on Wednesday, November 28.

Patrick was born on September 13, 1952 in Mishawaka as the son of Jim and Janet (Eaton) Meersman. He was preceded in death by a sister Jane Meersman.

Surviving are his mother Janet (Jack) LaVelle of Oak Forest, IL; his father Jim (Margaret) Meersman of South Bend; son Matthew (Danielle) Meersman of South Bend; daughter Sarah (Jason) Hickle of Mishawaka; grandson Jonathan Hickle; two sisters Mary Nelson of Savage, MN and Sherry Meersman of Shakopee, MN; three brothers Mike Meersman of Kingmen, AZ, Jerry “Bub” Meersman of St. Thomas US Virgin Islands and Jimmy Meersman of Dowagiac, MI. Pat was very close to his nephews Dan and Jason Meersman, sometimes like a second Father and other times more like a big brother.

Patrick was proud of the time he spent at St. Matthew’s grade School and Marian High School, both in class and on the football field. He spent 40 years in the Golf Course business serving as Greens Superintendent of Erskine Golf Course for over 14 years. He would make friends almost anywhere and quickly develop unconditional love for them. His appreciation of the outdoors was based on a sincere respect for nature. Like many born and raised in South Bend he was a die hard Notre Dame fan.

Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 1st, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Erv Mize officiating.

Murray Robert Modlin
Date of death: December 16, 2007

Murray Robert “Bob” Modlin, 71, of Mishawaka passed away on Sunday December 16 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.

Murray was born on July 19, 1936 as the son of Murray L. and Fern L. (Eastridge) Modlin. He was preceded in death by his parents.

On November 24, 1956 in Immanuel Baptist Church, Mishawaka he married the former Sharon Sue Ritter. Surviving are his wife Sue; four children, Mark (Julie) Modlin of Mishawaka, David (Christine) Modlin of Mishawaka, Paul (Patrice) Modlin of Wakarusa and Marjorie (Steve Shively) Morgan of Mishawaka 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild and one great grandchild on the way.; a sister Jane (Don) Jantzi of South Bend; three brothers, Carl Modlin of Mishawaka, Gary (Norma) of White Pigeon, MI and Guy (Carolyn) Modlin of Parma, MI.

Murray was an Electrician at Uniroyal and a Master Mechanic for 41 years retiring in 2000. He was a Trustee and Deacon at Immanuel Baptist Church, Mishawaka. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Today, Tuesday, December 18th in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street Mishawaka. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 19th in the funeral home. Burial will be in Porter Rae Cemetery.

In lieu of Flowers the family requests Memorial contributions be made to BSA Troop #105 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to BSA Troop #110 and Cub Scout Pack #110 at Coalbush United Methodist Church, 15977 Jackson Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46544.

Clement R. Andries
Date of death: December 18, 2007

Clement R. Andries, 88, of Mishawaka passed away in his home on Tuesday December 18.

On November 16, 1919 in Hansbeke Belgium he was born as the son of Octaaf and Eliza (Van Ooteghem) Andries. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Clement married Margaret H. Ardeel on June 1, 1946 and they enjoyed 61 wonderful years together; she survives along with their daughter Rita Lethert of Fairborn, OH. Also surviving is a granddaughter Carolyn.

He came to America from Belgium in 1922. Clement was a Veteran of the United States Army serving during WW II. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, the BK Club where he belonged to the Wednesday Afternoon Belgium Boller’s and VFW Post 360. He worked at Uniroyal for 37 years retiring in 1977. Clem was a kind, caring man. He was always willing to help others when ever needed. He was definitely “one of the good guys” in the world.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 20th from 3 to 7 p.m. with Wake Prayers at 6 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, on Friday, December 21st in St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Rev. Barry England will be officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where Military rites will be by VFW Post 360 - American Legion Post 161 Burial Squad.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 5th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
