Ronald E. Pence
Ronald E. Pence, 80, of 12134 S. SR 13, Claypool, IN, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at his residence. He was born May 11, 1922 at Sidney, IN to Willard and Bertha (Holben) Pence. He married Edna R. Eakright on Jan. 24, 1951, and she survives. He was a graduate of Sidney High School, Sidney, IN.
Ronald was a retired farmer and excavating contractor. He was a veteran of U.S. Army World War II, and served in France and Germany.
Other survivors include a son, Joe E. Pence of Claypool; daughters Kathy R. Bolyard of Durham, N.C. and Martha Ann Pence of Fort Wayne; a brother, Lawrence Pence of Sidney; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Rev. Opal Nees officiating. Burial was in Swank Cemetery of North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Society.
Alice Mae Warren
Alice Mae Warren, 85, died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center, LaFontaine, IN. She was born May 1, 1917 at Shirley, IN to Sherman and Mary Lou (Johnson) Perry. She was married to Rev. Lawrence A. Warren, Sr. in Peru, IN on Oct. 9, 1933; he died Aug. 8, 1986.
She was a resident of Wabash County for more than 75 years. She retired from Wabash Magnetics in 1971 after many years of employment there. She was a member of the First Separate Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters - Mrs. Ronald D. (Donna) Culver of Wabash and Marilyn McClain of Trinity, TX; two sons - Rev. Lawrence ( Becky) Warren, Jr. and Ronnie D. (Frieda) Warren, all of Wabash; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were four sisters, four brothers and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel with Rev. Bill Bowling officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery located at Servia, IN.

Jean Downs
Jean Downs, 81, of 870 Crosspoint Ct., Wabash, IN died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at her residence. She was born Apr. 8, 1921 at Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England to George and Mary Annable. She married Howard B. Downs in England Dec. 15, 1945. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Gusta Robinette Circle, and the Wabash County Hospital Auxiliary, all of Wabash. She loved to golf, read, and garden.
Survivors include her husband, Howard of Wabash; sons Stephen H. Downs of Wabash and Paul B. Downs of Westlake, OH; a daughter, Mary J. Mueller of Greer, SC; sisters Edith Collins of Macungie, PA and Muriel Crompton of Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, England; three granddaughters and two grandsons.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Wabash First United Methodist Church with Pastor James MacDonald officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.

Daniel Wayne Smith
Daniel Wayne Smith, 53, of 507 Singer Road, North Manchester, IN, died Friday, March 7, 2003 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born July 20, 1949 at Scranton, PA to the late Archie Smith and Josephine (Clink) Smith Sayman, who survives at Barre, VT. He married Deborah A. Shenefield May 4, 1991 and she survives.
He had worked at PM Ag in Syracuse, IN for 12 years and at ChoreTime Brock at Milford, IN for four years. He was currently employed as a stock associate at Wal-Mart in Warsaw.
In addition to his mother and his wife, he is survived by two step sons - Jeff Wagner of Rochester, IN and Scott Ervin in the U.S. Navy; a step brother, Roy Sayman of Alaska; two step sisters, Mrs. Michael (Sharon) Phend of Pierceton and Lisa Joy James of Barre, VT; a niece Julie Slusher of Pierceton, IN; and two step grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death.
He was a U.S. Army veteran in Vietnam. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #1518, American Legion Post #286, Eagles Lodge, all of North Manchester, and the VFW of Warsaw.
There are no funeral services. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel.
Ethel Mae Miller
Ethel Mae Miller, 83, of 1159 Sunset Dr., Wabash, IN died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born Feb. 4, 1920 to Charles and Helen (Burnsworth) Scott at Lagro, IN. She married Jack L. Miller in North Webster, IN on July 6, 1940.
She was an instructural assistant 10 years at W.C. Mills Elementary and Wabash Jr. High Schools. She was a member of the Wabash First United Methodist Church and the Margaret Wilson Circle. She was also a member of the Lake Lovers Club and the Conservation Club, both of Warsaw. Ethel Mae loved to cook, bake and travel. She and her husband lived at Chapman Lake in Warsaw 12 years.
Survivors include her husband, Jack L. Miller, of Wabash; three sons - Scott (Jane) Miller of Wabash, Jonathan (Nancy) Miller of Peru, and Tim (Hilda) Miller of Laketon; a daughter, Mrs. David (Luann) Moberg of Indianapolis; a daughter-in-law Gaye Miller of Wabash; a brother Lamoine (Sally) Scott of Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Tom (Lois) Zook of Auburn, IN; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A son, J.D. Miller died June 22, 2002.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, Wabash, with Pastor James MacDonald and Pastor Bill Garver officiating. Burial will take place in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.

Robert J. Brubaker
Robert J. Brubaker, 59, of 2157E 1175N, North Manchester, IN died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at his residence. He was born June 21, 1943 at Warsaw, IN to Calvin O. and Mildred P. (Fraling) Brubaker, both deceased.
He had been a tool room supervisor at Eaton Controls, North Manchester for 26 years. He was employed as a tool & die maker with Zimmer, Inc. of Warsaw since May 1988. A 1961 Manchester High School graduate, he was active with his son and grandson in Brubaker Racing, mini stock and modified at Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, IN. He served in the U.S. National Guard from 1966-68.
Survivors include sons Shawn (Angie) Brubaker, Jeff (Candi) Brubaker and Rob (Jennie) Brubaker, all of North Manchester, and a stepson Scott (Kelly) Bowman of Lagro; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Jamie (Gina) Dooley of Jacksonville, FL and former daughter-in-law, Mrs. Heath (Jill) Medsger of North Manchester; brother Dean (Linda) Brubaker of Bunker Hill, IN; a sister-in-law Janice Brubaker of North Manchester; nine grandchildren. A brother Wilmer "Bill" Brubaker preceded him in death in 2001.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel, with Pastor J.P. Freeman and Pastor Phil Medsger officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Agnes Scott
Agnes Scott, 96, of 7496S 400W, Wabash, IN died Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash. She was born Mar. 13, 1906 at Lafayette, IN to William J. and Lucy (English) Scott.
Agnes was recognized as the Distinguished Citizen of the Wabash Area Chamber of Commerce. She has been a member of Wabash Presbyterian Church since 1921, where she served on many committees, and was a member of the Women's Association. In 1973 she started Meals On Wheels in Wabash and served as the Executive Secretary until 1993.
She was a graduate of Wabash High School and attended Indiana University. She graduated from Western Illinois State Teacher's College and earned the Masters Degree from the University of Michigan in 1941. Before returning to Indiana, she taught school at Macomb, Gridley, and at Mooseheart in Illinois. She returned to Wabash County in 1950, teaching at Marion High School until her retirement in 1968. She received the Master Teacher award from Taylor University in 1961.
Survivors include close friends Keith and Marieta Stout of Wabash, and several cousins.
Funeral services will take place Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, with Rev. John Ritchie officiating. Clifford A. Baker
Clifford A. Baker, 88, of 1610N 175E, Wabash, IN died Monday, March 10, 2003 at Millers Merry Manor East, Wabash. He was born Sept. 12, 1914 in Wabash County to Jesse and Ida ( Anderson) Baker. H e maqrried Verla Marie Brubaker on Feb. 18, 1940, and she died Dec. 24, 1962. He then married Marguerite (Shambaugh) Ross in Phoenix, AZ on J une 25, 1965.
He was a 1933 graduate of Lagro High School and was a retired farmer, who lived on the family farm since 1932. He was a member of the Lagro United Methodist Church and the Wabash County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite of Wabash; daughters Mrs. Deverl ( Mary) Whitehead of Grabill, IN and Mrs. Ronald (Judy) Hedrick of Marion, IN; sons Morris (Phyllis) Baker of Wabash and Jody Baker of Lagro; a step daughter, Janet Ross of Phoenix, AZ; a brother Hursel Baker of North Manchester; sisters Carolyn Shidaker of Bremen and Myra Gouvan of Wabash; 11 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a step daughter, and a brother.
Funeral will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel with Dr. Janice Fulbright officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.

Beulah R. Barron
Graveside service for Beulah R. Barron, 95, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, was held Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Oaklawn Cemetery of North Manchester. Chaplain David Doudt officiated.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.
Lucile Farling
Services for G. Lucile Farling, 88, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, were held Saturday afternoon, Match 1, 2003, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeffrey Hawkins and Deaconess Sabine Thomas officiating. Robin Gratz presided at the organ.
Burial was at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Wells County, IN; pallbearers were Bob Lawler, Douglas Farling, Derek Farling, Kerby Thomas, Bill Rhudy, and Steve Lambert. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Geneva Wire
Geneva Wire, 86, a resident of Rolling Meadows Health Care Center of LaFontaine, IN, died Nov. 14, 2002 at the Center. She was born in Wabash County to Lorin R. and Jessie (Smith) Miller June 26, 1916. She married John J. Wire on Jan. 21, 1961; he died in 1965.
She was employed as a nurse's aid at Wabash County Hospital.
Survivors include a son, Willard L. Collins Jr., of Wabash; a brother Jack L. Miller of Wabash; three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Friends may call at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2002 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m. with the Rev. William Garver officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Etna Cemetery, Huntington County, IN.
