Charles E. Neal Jr.
Charles Edgar Neal Jr., 38, of 1160 Columbus St., Wabash, IN died Friday, Oct. 25, 1996 at Luray, VA. He was born Dec. 16,1957 at Wabash, IN to Charles Edgar Neal Sr. and Sandra Darlene McCune Haggard.
Charles worked at Ford Meter Box for 18 years. He was a member of the Wabash Nazarene Church, and a member of the TransAmerica Radio group.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Henry Haggard of Wabash; his stepmother, Nora Neal of Wabash; step father, Henry Haggard of Wabash; a son, Cory Alan Neal of Wabash and daughters Hope Alaine Neal of Wabash and Kara Marie Neal of Kokomo; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Teresa) Stanley of Warren, IN; a step brother, Ronnie Hawkins of Wawpecong, IN; step sisters Misty Hawkins and Jacquelin Breeman, both of Wabash; Christy Cavanaugh and Julia Ekright, both of Peru; Ginny Hawkins of Carmel; and Scarlet Montgue of Akron; and a step brother, Wayne Haggard of Louisville, KY.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, (today), Oct. 30, at Manchester Avenue Chapel Grand-staff-Hentgen with Rev. Gary Cun-ningham officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to the American Diabetes Association. Manchester Ave. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen was in charge of arrangements.
Esther L. Bennett
Esther Louise Bennett, 77, formerly of 641 Erie St., Wabash, IN, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996 at Miller's Merry Manor, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born Aug. 3, 1919 in Wabash County to Carl H. and Rosa M. (Moore) Lower. She married Glenn M. Bennett, who died April 12, 1995.
She was a charter member of the Middle Street Wesleyan Church in Wabash and most recently was a member of the Spring St. Wesleyan church in Fort Wayne.
Survivors include daughters Rosa L. Liston and Rebecca Ann Keppel, both of Ft. Wayne; a son, John L. Bennett of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother Robert Lower of Kokomo, IN; sisters Jackie Pownall of Wabash and Doris Elaine Cook of Warsaw; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Funeral service was held at Middle St. Wesleyan Church Monday, Oct. 14, with the Revs. Ron Johnson and Maurice Pierce officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Kathryn A. Bird
Kathryn A. Bird, 92, of 1110 Crosspoints Ct., Wabash, IN, died Thursday, Oct. 10,1996, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born July 24, 1904 in Wabash County to El-wyn W. and Leota (Ridgeway) Arnold. She married Lawrence W. Bird June 15, 1930 in Wabash County, and he died June 12, 1986.
She taught Latin in Roann, Lincolnville, and Wabash. She was a member of the Wabash First United Methodist Church and the Mar-garet Wilson Circle of the church. She was a charter member of the Wabash Musicale, a Past Matron of the Wabash Order of Eastern Star, and a past officer of the Madonna Shrine of Wabash. She was for-merly a member of the Wabash County Choral Club.
She is survived by a son, Richard L. Bird and a daughter, Martha L. Bird, both of Wabash.
Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 14, at Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service with Dr. Bill Moon officiating. Burial was in Matlock Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Hospital Oncology Dept. or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and Burn Institute. Manchester Avenue Chapel Grand-staff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Margaret J. Long
Margaret Jane Long, 80, of 1320 Greenacre Ct., Wabash, IN, died Monday, January 13, 1997 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born March 14, 1916 at Richmond, IN to Ora and Mae (Haas) Smith.. She married Kenneth A. Long Oct. 2, 1933 in Logansport, IN.
Mrs. Long retired from Resneck Ladies Apparel Shop in Wabash after 25 years. She was a member of the Bachelor Creek Church of Christ and was a member of the national AARP.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth, of Wabash; a son, Terry Long of Roann; a sis-ter, Mrs. Charles (Alice) Robi-son of Culver; granddaughters Mrs. Michael (Sue Ellen) Collins of Orlando, FL and Sherri Long of Kokomo; a grandson, Brent Long of Exeter, CA; and seven great grandchil-dren. A brother preceded her in death.
Friends may call Wednesday (today) from 4 to 8 p.m. at Manchester Avenue Chapel, Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, where the funeral will take place Thursday, January 16, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Lynn C. Schuchardt will officiate and burial will be in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Cardiac Rehab at the Wabash County Hospital or to the Wabash County Cancer Society.
Mary E. Fike
Mary E. Fike, 93, a Timbercrest Retirement Community resident, North Manchester, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997 at Timbercrest's Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 3, 1903 at Sterling, IL to John and Emma (Ebersole) Weber. She married L. Emerson Fike June 29, 1927 and he preceded her in death June 25, 1976.
Mrs. Fike was retired as a school teacher after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren, World War Mothers and Riverside Garden Club, both of North Manchester, and the National Retired Teachers As-sociation.
Survivors include two sons - H. Wendell Fike of Rochelle, IL and John E. Fike of North Manchester; two daughters - Mrs. Leatice Raver of Wabash and Mrs. Robert (Karla) Beattie of Sterling, IL; two brothers - Harry Weber of Washington, D.C. and Millard Weber of Rock-ford, IL; and a sister, Eldora Rienstra of Sterling, IL; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Four grandchil-dren and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 14, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, which was in charge of arrangements. Rev. Susan Boyer officiated the ser-vice, and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Paul Becker
Paul Becker, 88, of 17057 Filbert Rd., Argos, IN, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 at his residence. He was born April 29, 1908 near Argos, IN to Herman J. and Nora (Manges) Becker, both deceased. He was a farmer who lived his entire life in the Argos community.
Survivors include a sister-in-law , Mrs. Marcile Becker of North Manchester; a niece, Peg Wieland of North Manchester; nephews Ron Becker and his wife Phyllis of Argos, and Don Becker of North Manchester; five great nieces and one great nephew; also a great-great niece and great-great nephew.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Erma E. Becker and a brother Fred Becker.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997 at the Grossman Funeral Home, Ar-gos, with the Rev. Tony Schnei-ders officiating. Burial was in the Walnut Brethren Cemetery, southeast of Argos. Preferred memorials are to the Walnut Church of the Brethren.
Galen Wolfe Jr
Galen Wolfe Jr., 73, a resident near South Whitley, died Satur-day, Jan. 11, 1997 at his home of a heart attack. He was born Dec. 16, 1923 in Sidney, IN. He grad-uated from the Sidney High School in 1942. After completing his education, Mr. Wolfe engaged in general farming.
On July 20, 1945, he was united in marriage to Hildreth Sherbahn and they established their home on a farm in Kosciusko County near Sidney. In 1976, they moved to their present farm in Cleveland Township, Whitley County.
In addition to farming, Mr. Wolfe also worked for the Whit-ley County Highway Depart-ment for 15 years. He was a member of the Eel River Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include his wife, Hildreth; three daughters, Mrs. Terry (Susan) Bouse of Silver Lake, Mrs. Gale (Barbara) Burkholder of South Whitley, Mrs. Gerald (Pattyjo) Sobecki of Indianapolis; a son, Ed Wolfe and his wife, Karen of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren; a great grand-daughter; a brother, Stanley Wolfe of Silver Lake, and a sis-ter, Patty Kester of Vevay, IN.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Joy Feist and a brother, John.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997 in the Eel River Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Martha Cory and the Rev. John Whitcraft officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.

Opha M. White
Opha M. White, 90, Rt. 1, Roann, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 1997 at Prairie View Health Care of Warsaw. She was born at Akron, IN Dec. 31, 1906 to Samuel P. and Anna M. (Kauffman) Ball. She married Warren White in Crawfordsville, IN in 1926; he died June 2, 1990.
She attended the Olive Branch Church of God; she was Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Roann and Wabash.
Survivors include three sons - John of Warsaw, Tom of Roann, and Tim of North Webster; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Penny) Meeks of Wabash; 19 grandchil-dren and 23 great grandchil-dren. One son and three sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997 at the Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hent-gen Funeral Service, North Manchester, with the Rev. Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, west of North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to the Olive Branch Church of God.
Maurice E. Armey
Maurice E. Armey, 77, of 505 N. Walnut St., North Manchester, died Jan. 10, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born March 25, 1919 to Ora and Grace (Snell) Armey, both deceased. He married Eleanor M. Carter July 14, 1951 and she died July 26, 1988.
He was retired from the North Manchester Post Office. He was a World War II Army veteran, and received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #286, both of North Manchester, and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of South Whitley. He had also formerly served as a Little League coach.
Survivors include a stepson, Gerald Benson of Huntertown, IN; stepdaughters, Mrs. Clyde (Marjorie) Gregory of Silver Lake and Neoma Kougel of Muskogee, OK; brothers, Richard Armey of Napoleon, OH, Marvin Armey, Max Armey, Milburn Armey, all of North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Mildred) Miller of Andrews; 10 step grandchildren, and 17 step great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, which was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Oak-lawn Cemetery, N. Manchester.
Louis V. Davidson
Louis Vearl Davidson, 75, of 1297E 400S, Wabash, IN died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 at Wabash Healthcare Center, Wabash, IN. He was born Feb. 8, 1921 at Oblong, IL to Lora A. and Mar-garet (Jones) Davidson, both deceased. He married Laura Etta Reed Dec. 24, 1941 in St. Louis, MO.
Mr. Davidson worked as an inspector for Fisher Body in Marion, IN for 24 years before retiring in 1977. He was a mem-ber of the Wabash Calvary Chapel Worship Center, and was a World War II Army veteran. He had lived in Wabash County since 1941.
In addition to his wife, Laura Etta of Wabash, he is survived by four sons - Larry Davidson of Statesville, NC, James Davidson of Roann, Robert Davidson of Muncie, and Donald Davidson of North Manchester; a daughter, Frances Cosley of Wabash, a brother, Isaac Davidson of La-gro, and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Elizabeth) Boggs of Silver Lake; 22 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 1997 at Manchester Ave. Chapel Grand-staff-Hentgen, Wabash, with Pastor Steve Eckert officiating. Entombment took place in the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum, Wabash. Preferred memorials are to Wabash Calvary Chapel Worship Center.
Rev. Charles W. Gibbs
Rev. Charles W. Gibbs, 65, Pastor of Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren, 2012 Wilson Rd., Custer, MI, passed away Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 at Memorial Medi-cal Center of Ludington, MI.
Charles Gibbs was born June 3, 1931 in Kenmaer, ND, the son of Walter and Dorothy (Weaver) Gibbs. He grew up and attended school in North Manchester, Indiana, where he graduated from Manchester High School. He then attended and graduated from Manchester College, and received his masters degree from Central Michigan Univer-sity. Rev. Gibbs was married June 13, 1953 at Woodland, MI to Rose Dults, who survives.
Rev. Gibbs has pastored the following churches: Sugar Ridge Church of the Brethren, Zion Church of the Brethren, West Branch, Woodland Church of the Brethren, Coats Grove Christian Church, Sunfield Church of the Brethren, and the United Methodist Church in Laketon, IN. He also worked as a Juvenile Probation Officer of Eaton County, MI, for seven years, and taught elementary school in Indiana for two years, and in Hale, MI for 22 years. Rev. Gibbs served for one year with the Brethren Volunteer Service in Canada and was a past member of the Sunfield, MI Li-ons Club.
In addition to his wife, Rose, survivors include a daughter, Valerie of Yuma, AZ; two sons, Lee of Yuma, AZ and Lynn of Winnemucca, NV; a sister, Fay of Mishawaka, IN; a brother, Jim of Polk City, FL; two grand-daughters, Elizabeth and Jen-nifer; and three grandsons, Mathew, Aaron and Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Doris and a son, Clay.
Memorial services for Rev. Gibbs will be announced at a later date. Grace E. (Bette) Bartlemay
Grace Elizabeth (Bette) Bartlemay, 78, died Jan. 3, 1997 in Sarasota, FL. She was the daughter of Bill and Irene (Willis) Fulton of North Manch-ester. She was married to Jack Bartlemay for more than 50 years.
She is survived by two daugh-ters, Jenny Aker and Jill Fortney of Sarasota, FL; a son, Bill Bartlemay of Winter Haven, FL; a sister, Phyllis "Ireland" Neuenschwander of Sarasota; three brothers, Bill Fulton and Danny Fulton of Indiana and Pinky Fulton of California; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
